my doctor perscribed this for me yesterday and I took one, and last night was the worse night I ever had...no sleep...sweating...YIKES...

he perscibed it for geneal fatigue and anxiety i get sometimes and he thought this may help.

I was wondering if any of you have used this drug and what was your experience, was it simular to mine then went away?? or is this a side effect I am just going to have to deal with...(these are listed side effects on the box, its the level of severity so soon that concerns me)

thanks!!!

Hi, I am on effexor xr at a 75mg level. I feel great. The only side effect I can tell is a decreased libido. I feel terrible if I dont take it.
But, keep a record for a couple of days and let your dr know if it doesnt improve.
Love :)

I just started taking this today as well. So far I'm not noticing a difference...I was maybe a little out of it at work tonight but that was it.

Definitely call your doctor's office for any strong reaction to a new medication. The doctor will able to advise you if these things are a reason to discontinue. But check with the doctor before stopping any medication as some must be tapered off.

I take it first thing in the morning or 7 whichever is latest. It can disrupt sleep if taken late in the day.

I have been on 150mg of Effexor XR for 5 months now..I have had no side effects and it has worked great for me. It's my understanding that it is for depression and has an anti-anxiety effect to it as well. My doctor said it does have a "pep-upper" in it also and should be taken early in the morning. :)

I am on day 3 now, and can definitely feel a change in my anxiety level at night, which is good. It's not gone completely, but it's improving. The thing that isn't great is that I'm still not sleeping well, it takes me so long to fall asleep and then I keep waking up periodically. It's weird, back not too long ago I used to fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow -- but I suppose I was a bit more sleep-deprived, since I had a job that made me get up early. Now, I work and have class in the afternoon/evening, so if I'm really tired from not sleeping, I just sleep in too much and don't do the homework/errands I'm supposed to do before class. I've been trying to take the effexor xr earlier in the day...on day 1 I took it around 4:15pm because I didn't know better, on day 2 I took it around 3pm because it was the soonest I could eat something along with it, and today I took it as soon as I could drag myself out of bed, at about 12:15pm. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to take it earlier...

I was on Effexer XR for over a year and my experience was different from what everyone else seems to have had. My doctor started me out on a Starter Pack...25 mg. at first and gradually worked up to 75 mg. Eventually I was taking 175 mg. a day. I took mine at night because it made me very sleepy. In fact, I couldn't take anything like Nyquil with it because it would absolutely knock me out! I made the mistake of taking HALF of a Sominex one night and I don't even know how I made it to work the next morning (45 minute commute). When I did get to work, I explained the problem and told the boss that I HAD to lie down for a few minutes. I ended up sleeping two hours. I was EXTREMELY groggy the rest of the day. Thank goodness for a very understanding boss!

I took Effexor for depression and it worked wonderfully for me. It is very important to not miss a dose or quit taking it cold turkey. I would get the ickiest sick feeling....kinda like my body was turning inside out. ugh! Anyway...it worked for me but I highly recommend taking it EXACTLY as directed and do NOT quit taking it cold turkey.

p.s. It did cause me to gain a little weight.

I have been on effexor for about six months. Since I took it for situational depression, I decided to taper off of it with the help from my doctor. I have been incredibly sick for a couple of weeks now. It is the hardest thing I have ever detoxed off of, and being a recovering drug addict, this was really surprising to me. My advice is that unless you plan on taking this type of medication for a long, long time, don't start it. Try something that is not so physically addicting!

I take it a shortly after I get to work. I get up at 5 and take it at 7.15. I take it on an empty stomach. My doctor said some do better on an empty stomach, some do better with food, some do better taking it at night, some first thing in the morning. It all depends on that particular person's chemistry. He does say it makes some people sleepy, yet if taken in the afternoon, some people won't rest at night. Again, an individual thing. It seems to do well for me but I need to increase the dosage even more this winter. I have SAD and am on 150mg now.

I"m not taking it now but I had in the past.... and I also got the started apck... from 25mg to 50 to 75 to 150 . I had tapered off for a while with no problems, then one time I took a full 150 thinking I needed to get started again because I was feeling really down and yeah, I couldn't sleep that night, woke up with crazy dreansm heart palpitations...

SO i think your suppose to build up to a certain dosage

I do 75g for anxiety issues. always take it last thing at night as it makes me very tired. Worked really well for a couple of weeks, then down, then up again. Seem to back to where I was.
