Ok, I just started doing this. I keep hearing that when you are counting your carbs to subtract the Fiber & that will be the true carb count for the meal is this true? & Can somebody explain this a little to me. I'm fixing to buy the book but like I said before I just got my nephews so that is 5 kids in the house so money is very tight. Thanks for your help

subtract the fiber count and sugar alcohols and that should give you an effective carb count. this seems to work for the most part...

Go to Atkins website. the site tells you exactly how to do it....but I would still buy the book when you can as it will be even more resourceful. Good luck!

The reason you subtract carbs from fiber is that your body doesn't digest fiber. "Net carbs" is just total carbs minus carbs from fiber. (Sugar alcohols are subtracted the same way fi they are present.)
And, though it sounds like you already know this, trying to follow Atkins without reading the book is like trying to tie your shoes with your teeth...a lot harder than it needs to be!

In addition to subtracting fiber , sugar alcohols..don't forget to subtract the glycerins.
I think they ar ethe 3 things to subtract..
Hope that helps..Don't worry, I couldn't afford to get the book either, so I borrowed it from a friend. Also the library carries it.It's important the info, but you can really start it until you get the book..
www.atkins.com explains a lot and they have recipes for each phase..ALso if you follow the induction phase strictly, it should help until you get the book.
Do you have the induction list..?

I'm really trying to keep my induction clean...so as long as I am on induction I have been counting total carbs. That's just me how ever. (my 2 cents worth)
