This was on the yahoo home page: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040312/ap_on_re_us/low_sugar_doughnut

I guess everyone wants on the bandwagon, but I did get a good chuckle out of this.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, long known for its high-calorie treats, says it plans to offer a low-sugar doughnut to attract dieters and diabetics.

Exactly how low the sugar content would be was unclear. Krispy Kreme spokeswoman Amy Hughes said the new doughnut is still in the early stages of development. It is set to debut before the end of 2004.

One of Krispy Kreme's Hot Original Glazed doughnuts has 10 grams of sugar and 200 calories. More than half those calories come from fat, 12 grams of it.

Krispy Kreme lover Nathan Painter said he would give one of the newfangled doughnuts a try. Still, he found the whole idea strange.

"It just seems odd they're trying to be healthy," he said.

eh low sugar dosent mean low carb! it will still be loaded with white flour, so instead of having 50g of total carbs, even with no sugar, it will have 40g of high glycemic carbs so i doubt it will be a success, unless alot of people assume low sugar means low carb. I hope they dont try to confuse low carb dieters into thinking its an ok snack

I about this on the news last night...The guy on the news said Krispy Kreme was doing it to attract Diabetics and Dieters...They said it was going to be Low-Sugar/Low-Calorie. So, I suspect, they'll also make it Low-Fat.

I was watching Jay Leno (Tonight Show) last night and he made a really funny joke about it. He said "Krispy Kreme is coming out with a new low-sugar Doughnut. They say they want to get Diabetics to eat there. I saw a Diabetic at Krispy Kreme once...He was on the Floor Doing this: [insert crappy imitation of a guy flailing around on the floor having a Seizure.]" My TV Tuner software wasn't working last night [I'll have to reboot the computer to make it work again,] so I wasn't able to record it. But, the nice thing about the tonight show is that a few hours later they reair the previous weeks episodes. So, it should reair sometime between 2 and 5 AM next Thursday depending on your local affiliate. I'll try to record it when it comes back on and post the video...'cause its REALLY funny.
