Hello there, I am nolonger depressed about much of anything but I have gotten help for the depression which is in itself a problem. I weighted 329 last May and now am 260 THis WOE has been a life saver for me and many others on this form and the others that we hang out on. You are only 40 pounds from your goal I haven't read your profile so don't know what you have read or how long you have been at it but one thing is for sure This has to be a life change not just a diet. Your thinking has to change about food and why you eat it. I have found the more I feed my mind the right things the less I want to feed my body the wrong things. Read as much as you can about Atkins read peoples journals start your own. And if the Depression is an ongoing thing seek help It can be a big circle if eatting is only a symptom of what is really going on inside. I see you have made only two post so Welcome to a great way of living and new friends always ready to reach out to you.

well, i suggest a trip to the TDC forum...that is always inspirational for me....and just looking at people's stats here always help me! i like the suggestion of reading as much about atkins (or any plan) as you can...the more you buy into the concept, the more likely you can stick with it--because you will UNDERSTAND how it works! hang in there...you are probably being a little hard on yourself, too...i remember being excited to get DOWN to 190....it's all relative! be kind to yourself and take good care of yourself and good things will happen!

Dear mislite,
being overweight is one thing. Being depressed is another. Taking care of both sort of helps each problem to be less severe. You are doing something about your weight issue:your diet. You should pay the same attention to your being depressed, whatever the reason for being depressed is. The best thing to do is: A)seek medical treatment;B)seek counseling.
Try to stick to the diet as best you can. If you don't stick religiously to your plan, give yourself a break;you certainly don't need to beat yourself over the head now. You are doing something very courageous, so try and feel good about it. If you take care of your feelings of worthlessness and despair, the rest will follow :) .
Take care of yourself and go see your doctor as sonn as you can. Depression is a very serious illnes.
Keep us posted.

Yes. You can fight through this though. It is hard. For years I never could get any weight off b/c the waiting period was too hard. I would look in the mirror and get so angry at myself and depressed for being so overweight. Here is what I did. I stopped looking in the mirror for awhile truthfully and I started treating myself better on purpose. Now I can treat myself to buying new clothes but before the weight came off and there were months of waiting around and seeing nothing on the outside any different I did other things. I took a bubble bath every night. Treated myself to a new haircut or a movie. I made a list of things that I wanted and I gave them to myself. Now I can treat myself to clothes but while you are in that stage treat yourself to other things. You ARE worth it and you do deserve it.
