Hi,
I just found out a week ago that I have a pretty bad Candida. I was just wondering if there is anyone that has been able to get better from this?

Hi
I've been diagnosed with candida too through my nutritionist as partly responsible for my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. For the past few weeks I have been following a lower carb diet with some avoid foods to balance my blood sugar, this week I have been put on a strict candida diet and am about to start with micropril to encourage the die off. I've been told that its in the cells all over my body as well as in the gut causing leaky gut syndrome.
So - how do I feel? Well after sleeping for over 12 hours a night and then struggling to stay awake the rest of the day, I am happy to report that I'm now down to an 8 hour night!!! Aches and pains and stiffness are still about the same though, as is the physical exhustion. I've heard that we need to follow the candida style diet for life to avoid it coming back as it's like a monster living inside us always calling out for sugar and carbs!
Its still early days for me though -but there are a lot of candida sites on the net worth a looksee. My advice though is to find a good nutritionist (BANT/ION registered). Good luck! :wiggle:

How do you get tested for yeast in the body. I live in a small town and I believe my doctors would laugh at me.

I don't know if there is a test per se, it may be more of a diagnosis by symptoms. Here is a do-it-yourself test. Spit Test (http://www.oxygendrops.com/free_candidatest.htm)
Believe what you will about it, lots of people have seen a difference in results after going on an LC plan. Besides taking a prescription drug (like Diflucan which is muy $$$) the best thing to do is go LC (pick a plan that best suits you), take vitamin & mineral supplements (the leaky gut part causes vitamin & mineral deficencies which make you show different symptoms) and the antifungal of your choice. Switching types has show good results also. There are many commercial prepairations: Candistroy, ThreeLac, Yeast Fighters, (I used Candistroy with good results). I also use GSE (liquid grapefruit seed extract). I'll post a link to a page with good info.
candida page (http://www.candidapage.com)
A good probiotic is necessary to restore the bacterial balance in your intestines. Candida is a naturally occuring bacteria in all of us. Eatting a poor hi-carb diet causes the candida to overgrow and squeeze out the good bacteria. Over time this can cause the candida to change structure and become fungus like in it's form, growing roots into the intestinal wall thinning it's lining and allowing particles of undigested matter and toxins to escape, thus the "leaky gut". The body suffers vitamin and mineral deficencies due to the damaged structure of the intestinal lining. The body also has autoimmune responces to partially digested protein particles being allowed out that are not ready for bodily adsorption. This is a cause of many food allergies. Some people after completing a stringent candida program report they can tolerate eatting foods they could not before.
There is good info out there, google "candida" and you'll see lots out there. It does take time to heal. I did a strict candida plan for 3 months. I still take GSE every day. It's a good anti-oxidant too & cheap. And be warned. You will feel worse when beginning a plan before you feel better. It can be mild cold symptoms to all-out-wish-I-was-gonna-die flu, but it's not. It's the systemic candida dying off. So don't go heavy handed with the antifungals when you start. Ease into them or you could be sorry latter. A good hint is to take a once daily dose at bed time so you sleep through the worst of it. I shook and ran a temp for 3 days when I started, but I am very glad I did it.

Hi Eliootz:
I've had candida for over 8 years. I know my likely source started with a bad diet and then lots of surgeries where the surgeons bumped and scraped my ovaries, pushing me into a premature, HEAVY DUTY menopause. I expect to be past reproduction years by the ripe ol' age of 40  This causes an EXCESS of estrogen to produce in my body and the estrogen is a major contributing cause to candida infections.
My mother had a candida infection and got over it.
I occasionally take Diflucan (Flucanozole) 100mg up to 200mg for symptoms and to keep the aches, pains and general tired feelings at bay.
TO THE LADY WHO HAS FIBRO: It is quite possible that your thyroid function is depressed as a result of your body trauma with your disease(s). Have your doctor run a thyroid panel. I take only 12.5 mcg of synthroid and I feel SOOO much better for it. It really helps with my energy level and may be the boost you need as well (there are studies confirming that the thyroid being depressed leads to or can aggrivate a gut fungal infection).
I wish all of you much luck and prayers in your fungal journey - it is not easy but many do simply "get over it" with proper diet and exercise.
Jeannie :)

Its a UK brand of caprylic acid. :wiggle:
I'm also taking tons of other supplements which i hope will be curtailed when I'm feeling better as they're costing me a small fortune!!

By the way - I believe there is a test for candida it costs (UK) approx £200 called 'Organix Test' Its somewhere on the net. It tests for several things.

Thanks to Jems, m1whowaits and Jeanne Sch.
You have all comforted me. I am a 36 male and I'm not ashamed to say I'm afraid. Scared senseless is more like it. I started taking super garlic supplements and probiotics, cut all sugar and cabs from my diet last week and I feel like the candida is getting worse. The pasty film on my tongue is worse I have cramps and diarrhia sP?. Is this normal? And what is oral thrush?
