So whats the big deal if it helps you 'go' a little bit? Im senstive to them if yeah i have them in excess. I found that eating Low Carb I would get constipated so actualy having a little help from the sugar alcohols wasnt so bad. So yeah is it really a bad thing? or more so a misfortune if you are capable of going number 2 and this just gives u an over load.

Yeah, I'm also interested in the answer in this question. Also, do sugar alcohols effect release of insulin much?

Basically, when you get help from sugar alcohols in order to have a bowel movement, you are relying on the use of laxatives for normal elimination. That really isn't any different from people who get addicted to ex-lax and other laxatives. Eventually, the bowel system comes to rely on that chemical in order to do its normal processes. This is VERY bad and can lead to reliance on those things. It is much better to add fiber to your diet. Unless constipation is causing you discomfort, the body will do what it needs to do when it is time.

I would also like to add, that sugar alcohol can stall some people. That would be a big reason to control the amounts you eat. I have a friend who eats sugar free candy all the time, carrrys around a big bag of it. Now she has built up a tolarenace to them and they no longer affect her.
I am one who they send running :) So I will have a go at them maybe once or twice a month. Hey, sometimes they are worth the price. I do understand that I can fall back into bad habbits of old days doing this. That is why I try to limit how often I eat them.

i agree! Not only do they stall me but they can make me gain if i eat them a few days in a row. They also give me a bad stomach problems. They also make my sugar cravings come back bad. On special days I'll have them but not too often. More then once they got me to get off the "diet" or should i say way of life.

Personally I'd rather eat a chocolate bar with sugar alcohols than take a laxative. Being constipated is dangerous and can lead to blockages that require hospitalisation. I think little help from sugar alcohols from time to time is valid.
Having said that, yes the route to success is to eat loads of fibre in veggies such as salad items and spinach and the body will return to it's natural rhythm.
Sugar alcohols and aftificila sweeteners do not make me crave sugar. Sugar makes me crave sugar - and that's all.
The whole idea of suger alcohols is that they don't affect the release of insulin as they are absorbed very slowly if at all. This is why they are the major ingredient in diabetic chocolate and jam (jelly accross the pond).

They dont make me gain weight or crave sugar. I dont over eat them. I have one serving of whatever product that has the sugar alcohols in them. Peoples opionions vary. You lost my point to the question which was answered by one person. I don't go #2 everyday so they're not as much of a laxitive to me. N laxtives are more intense which you practicaly go to the washroom atleast 5times in one day. I go maybe one time if i had a little to much sugar alcohols. I get fiber in my carb wise bread so I dunno I wouldnt really say my body would get addicted and I would forget how to go naturaly. If anyone really knows any articals about sugar alcohols affecting people in the sense their body cant pass stools on its own? I would like to read it.
Thanks.
