I see a lot of mention of variousl nuts that are OK to eat on Atkins. However I never see Cashew mentioned there. Are Cashews taboo?

1 oz of cashews (about 18 kernals) = Carbohydrate 8.09g - Dietary Fiber 1.08g so 7.01 grams carbs per ounce (according to fitday).
This makes them a very high carb food. I believe they are legumes (like peas) not really nuts. Also they are delicious but also expensive. If I'm goint to spend a lot of money on nuts I'll buy macadamias which are low carb, high fat and also nice.

Thanks Robert. *sigh*, one more goody to give up :(
At least I like Peanuts and Macadamia, so it's not a total loss :)

What about almonds and walnuts? These are also low carb and full of fat.

I have a packet of cashews in my bag for emergencies but try to stay away from them because of the carbs. Nuts are also a known staller for a lot of people, so you have to watch out for that. I've gotten macadamia nuts before and stored them in my freezer to stay fresh, but every store I go to I search for mac's and I cannot find them ANYWHERE!!! So, I bought some smoked almonds last night...

Peanuts are also a legume. Sorry! Check the carb count before indulging too much.
Pecans and walnuts are lower carb, less expensive, and quite tasty. I love pecans chopped up over whole milk unsweetened yogurt, with some berries.

Peanuts and cashews are both legumes, but peanuts have fewer carbs and more grams of fiber per serving than cashews.
Of course, both "nuts" are good foods -- just not suitable for use during Induction.

Brazil nuts are really good too, and pistachios.
Does anyone know what chestnuts are considered and if they are different than water chestnuts? I love water chestnuts.

Chestnuts are mega high. Water chestnuts are ... don't know the can I just went to look at is all written in Chinese! - but I think they're lower.

I've just had to give up pecans and walnuts. Haven't followed up with actual blood sensitivity testing, but it was suggested that the nuts are likely loaded with some of the juglones that both trees secrete to inhibit growth of competitors. Walnuts are worse. I've never liked the aftertaste I get from walnuts but didn't notice anything with pecans. Recently, however, my mood plummeted and my binging took off and it seemed to be concurrent with eating pecans regularly. Quit eating them and three days later, back to normal.
Sad; I have two huge pecan trees in the yard. Can't afford it.
Almonds appear to be ok but they're an unrelated species.
Given the way my intestines react to peanut butter, I'm being cautious about peanuts but I've never noticed a direct reaction from the intact nuts.

Thank you all for all this information. I guess I cannot avoid reading labels *grin* (just kidding, just kidding)
Have another elementary question, but shall start a new thread for it :)
Cheers
