Lots of people talk about getting the body of their 20's back, or their prebaby bodies, I am curious if anyone hit a new low while LC.
I am 5'4, and my lowest adult weight has been in the 135 range, that is eating very little, and working out twice/day.
Without working out, but watching calories I stayed around 145.
With LC I feel like I could actually make it into the 120's.
I love the LC WOE. I really don't ever want sweets anymore, and I am so very much motivated by the inches lost.
Anyone have and experience like this?
My DH is LC on doctors orders for cholesterol. He is at his lowest weight in 15 years. I wonder how long he will continue to lose.
If caloric intake is high, but carb intake remains low do our bodies stop losing and start maintaining when we reach this weight?
I read recently that most Americans actually believe their ideal weight to be higher than the accepted medical community ideal weight. I have always told myself before that genetics had cursed me to be a size 10 because these are the hips my mother passed on, but now I believe without sugar I may be destined to be a size 4 or 6. Watch out World!

because these are the hips my mother passed on
LOL   Thats what I used to call "doomed from the womb!" :agree:
WEll my lowest weight since 25 yrs old, is about 125-128, 128 being 6 months after the birth of my last child.

So I set my goal at 140 cause I figured I'd never get to teh 130-135 for my BMI rate, but I went right passed 140 in Sept to 135 and pretty much keep at that.
However, I'm kind of feeling now 133 sounds O.K. too. But I really think anything lower won't be too good at my age now (49) Sheeze don't tell anyone :) and height of 5' 2-3".
Cheers Kathy

Well, I have a funny answer, because I spent years exercising to stay at 150 and a size 12.
Now I'm 147 and my size 10's are baggy.
So I'm at my lowest adult size, for certain.
I may lose some more weight...these last three pounds were a pleasant surprise, and over the holidays, yet!
But as a friend of mine said a few days ago, "If you lose any more weight, where would it come from? You look so slim."
Bless her.
But yes, I'm not expecting a lot more. I'm tall, with long arms and legs, I don't think I'd ever be waify or anything like that.
If the bust starts to go, I'm stopping there, for sure!

I am at my lowest adult weight now. 96 lbs. was the least I ever was before and that was when I had three little children.

I'll never be at my lowest adult *weight*, because that was acheived by low fat, low protein... low everything. :daze: I definitely lost too much lean body mass. I'd like to get back down to that size, but without the LBM loss, thank you very much. :) I don't know what my weight would be... probably 125-130.
I'm not trying too hard, though... I still consider myself to be in maintenance. Life happens in the meantime, and there's beer and chicken wings to be had. ;)

This is a very interesting thread. I have tried to maintain weight loss over the years up and down up and down. As you all have expierenced on low fat low calorie plans. To make a long story short..when I was 12 years old I weighed 125 lbs I now weigh 120. To bad it took me so long to solve the problem. I think I just accepted the fact that I could not be the size I wanted. With this way of life I found I was in control and could be what size I really wanted. I find re-reading Dr. Atkins books keeps me centered.

I just HAD to say, Trine you look wonderful!! Wow. What a transformation. I saw your before and after pictures. You truly look great. Congratulations on your loss and successful maintenance. :cheer:

Ah, I remember being twelve... and that 110 lbs was fat to everyone around me...
I lost a ton of weight when I went to Europe backpacking, but I was starving and surviving on fat and about 700 cals a day! I had no money to eat. I was at the low end of my healthy weight... 97 lbs, which I would say is too low, in spite of me being only 5 feet tall (and three eighths of an inch, darn it!).
I immediately gained back to 150 lbs within a month, because I had food now! I was 20 when I returned from that three month trip.
I am now 34 and sit around 134 lbs. I am definitely the lowest I've been since being a teen! Too bad my boobs have "headed south" during that time  but I am proud and happy at this weight.

Hi Rose Thanks for your encouragement. I am so happy to have this woe. It really does work. It is the only program I have been able to maintain a weight loss on ever.

I'm at my lowest adult weight. The last time I weighed less I was 19, in college, severely depressed and having an eating problem.
I read recently that most Americans actually believe their ideal weight to be higher than the accepted medical community ideal weight.
Have you ever seen this page: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm You enter your height, gender and weight and it tells you what a typical person with your statistics considers their "ideal" weight. According to their numbers, men tend to go for a high ideal weight, but women go for a low one. I have no way to judge their data but it makes perfect intuitive sense.

Definitely, I am at my lowest weight since I was about 11 years old.
At age 11 I was about 160lbs, at 16 I was 230, 21 I was 210, now 23 I am 153.
Just looking at this makes me realize what LC can do.
I've done pretty darn good.

I am new...tried to PM Trine... to ask what workouts you do to stay in this terrific shape? (I was too new to PM!) I have lost 18 pounds so far on Atkins (since 1-5-2004) I am so impressed with your muscle tone, and would appreciate advice on exercise or workouts you do! Thanks! Oh...I too..was "selling myself short" by thinking I just couldn't get smaller at 48 and after having 4 kids...I am now in a 10 and still working at it. I am 1 inch taller than you, so perhaps.....?! Sure hope someday to be as successful!

My lowest was 109lbs (that was four years ago) Actually, reading the boards made me decide to weight myself, an hour ago. (I have not step foot on the scale in three months) I slipped a little. I now weight 110 1/2 lbs. For some reason I assumed I would stay 114 lbs....but I stay pretty much between 110 lbs and 114 lbs. I'm not upset....although my husband would hit the roof if he found out. He thinks I am far too thin.

I'm another one of those that doesn't weigh the least but am wearing the smallest size of my adult life. I've been as low as 140 but that was after a few illnesses and I could never maintain a weight that low. Comfortable was about 155. I'm a few pounds more than that now ( about 164) but a size smaller than when I was twenty! And I've maintained for a year now.

The lowest I had been since the age of 21 was around 125. Now, at 131 and age 50, I am sure I could go lower but have decided not to, because I need to retain a little plumpness in my face! Plus my rear end tends to be pretty flat, now! :)
It's nice to know, though, that I could easily take off another 10 lbs if I wanted to. Maybe when I decide to get that face/butt lift ;) !!

i'm about 7lbs off my lowest adult weight which was 138lbs when i was 19.
four kids later i never dreamed i'd get this close to that weight again but now i'm going for gold and the ultimate weight. (121lbs)
like the author i too wonder if atkins can help me acheive this or if those who say your body will stop at it's own set point.
My "set point" was always 152 and I am at 149 now, and working hard to lose more...I think it IS possible on this WOE, if we stick to it!!

Never in my wildest dreams, did I think I'd be wearing size 6!! woohoooooooooooooooooo!!

Thu, Sep-09-04, 20:05
How do you guys fit into size 6's? I must have a huge genetic butt or something :). At 130 I can squeeze into size 8 jeans, but feel much more comfortable in 10's. I'm 5'4", and have always wondered about this. The only time I wore size 8 jeans was a hundred years ago when a boyfriend dumped me and I got down to 108 pounds.
On the other hand, I may just be wearing my clothes too baggy, I can't stand tight clothes.

Hey good
I have one pair of stretch jeans that are a size 6, but most of my pants are 10 or 12. I can fit into the jeans probably because either they are really stretchy, or all sizes are variable.

Hmm, I am 5'4 and about the same weight (128) and am now wearing 2's and 4's in jeans and pants. I bought a skirt the other day in size 6 and pulled it up without unzipping it :P. I work out a lot, so I guess it's just a difference in muscle (18%BF). I'd like to lose a few more pounds just for the 'number' but as my size is right, I'm maintaining.
Also could just be the difference in sizes from different manufacturers although I have yet to find any major differences when shopping for job clothing lately.
Plus I hate baggy clothing - I don't like 'stretch' or extra tight clothing either.

I'm 99% of the time bubbly, happy, and nothing much affects me BUT I look awful and it has made me a little sad. Vain aren't I?
I'm five pounds below goal ( don't you all hate me?) and I look haggered, tired, and old.
My avitar is ten pounds higher.
I'm eating more calories to gain the weight back. I hope my face gets back to normal. :)
It could be other things too. The last few months things have been very difficult here. I won't go into details but the stress has been so overwhelming and like I mentioned in the first paragraph........."stress and things going on out of my control don't normally bother me".
Since low carbing I don't sleep much. either so that gets to me.
I always thought I had it all together. Too much energy? Getting into menopause? HUM. Not sure.
Need a hug..........a friend......! Deep down I know all will be ok.....just takes time.
Hope you all have a controlled carb day,
Susie
Susie, I hope you are feeling better by now. Menopause DOES interferre with sleep and it can start years before the actaul menopause...when hormones start to flucuate. I don't sleep well at different TOM and then sleep like a rock later!
How long did it take you to reach your goal and how many carbs are you eating a day? I still stick around 20 or 30 and can't seem to lose the last 10 pounds. I could be okay with 140, but I am at 147 today (144 is my lowest since lc'ing). I go to 145 or so then 146...147...it just creeps back ..then out of the blue will drop to 45 again. It never seems to stick!! I don't eat frankenfoods, etc...always cook fresh..so I don't know what to do to make it stick! I do exercise (treadmill and pilates). Any advice?
I always look old and tired when I don't get my water in..which is frequently, since I just can't seem to remember to get it all in...maybe drink more today..? :)

VDR, (real name?) :)
Thanks! :)
I'm feeling a little better. I know this is only temporary.
I thought the NO sleep was from low carbing but thinking it through now I know it started a few years before low carbing and I 'was' at that time going through hormonal ups and downs.
How much water do you drink? I drink around 70 ounces. I feel that is a lot for someone my size.
My goal was 18 pounds and it took me 2 months. I stayed around the 20 net carbs not total carbs and I also watched calories and stayed around 1200. I tried to follow the ole eat your goal weight x's 10 to lose and it worked. Always has even when doing low fat.
Try checking yourself for calorie intake at www.fitday.com (http://www.fitday.com/)
I normally walk 2 and 1/2 miles 5 or 6 days a week......once in a while more it depends if my husband wants to go when he gets home from work.
Wish you the best,
Susie

I am 5'4" and weigh 111 lbs. I have so called swimmer's body. Wide shoulders, small waist, slim hips. I wear size 4 and 2. I also wear very low rise pants. I have no trouble with the style. A flatter stomach will help in fitting these jeans. You have to work out for that. If you can wear a bikini well, you should have no trouble in wearing these.

Maybe you have been given the gift of having a small lower frame. I am neither apple nor pear shaped, I am very hour-glass figured. AND I have unchanging thighs! BTW, I am only five feet (and five-eighths of an inch, darnit!) So those sizes, even at death-weight for me, will not be attainable.
When I returned from a trip to Europe (1990) I weighed 97 lbs, and my thighs were still 34" each around... my waist went from a 34 to 21" (I starved!) and my thighs went from 39" to 34".
Good work for the small sizes. Personally, I am happy with being a "10" :)

Good to hear about other "10's" !! I actually have a very flat stomach, narrow shoulders, rather long-waisted (ecto-morph?) with "muscular" :) thighs. Actually, I think I look pretty good in a bathing suit! But, sometimes I feel left out of the "look what a tiny size I've gotten too" conversation! LOL, what a silly thing to worry about, I'm delighted to be where I am !! :) :)

I think the only reason I'm wearing the sizes that I am is because I work out at least 3x a week -- about 30min weight training and 30-40min cardio (roughly 400-500cal per workout). I'm currently wearing sizes that are lower than what I wore 20#, 20yrs and 2 pregnancies ago so it's very odd to me. I guess I need to add this to my "reasons losing weight has been good to me" list in my journal to remind that I am lucky in this respect.

I am very hourglass as well, actually - my thighs are my worst parts, but they are coming down a bit. Current measurements at 127.5lbs:
Chest : 32.5
Waist: 23
Hips 32.5
Thighs 18.75
I work out daily, weights 3x week, cardio 5-6x/week. And by the way, I am sure you all look great! 'Sizes' don't mean much if you are at a good BF percentage - we are all built differently. I point out to my husband little TINY built women who are probably wearing clothes out of the kid's department - I could weigh 96 pounds and not be that size -just not built that way!
I dedfinitly think the working out decreases the sizes. I weigh 146, today, and I wear an 8 in most things (5 foot 8 inches tall). I did just order some "6" jeans that fit...I do arm weights and treadmill.
Susie, Thanks for the info. I do not drink NEARLY enough water...I hate to say but usually around 2-16 oz bottles a day! That is carrying it up and leaving it on the nightstand when I go to bed, too, and drinking sometimes during the night. I just don't seem to be thirsty and have to "force" even that...? I know I need to drink more. I drink decaffinated coffee in the mornings, too, but no soft drinks, etc, throughout the day.
Maybe I am eating too many calories. I would like to at least get to 140, but maybe 135...So at 135 I would eat around 1350 calories a day..is that right? I eat pretty much the same things for breakfast and lunch and then for dinner a meat and salad or meat and vegetable, but I cook all kinds of things so maybe I am getting just too many calories? I have been between 144 and 147 for about 3 months now, up and down...! I do make desserts, and love to try all the new recipes, but since that is what I really enjoy about lc'ing I hate to give it up totally, but I may have to a while.
I post at the other place, too, and have seen you there...My name is "Viv" but that was taken!
Sorry for the double post...I am still figuring out how to use this forum (and not too well, I might add!)

........I do not drink NEARLY enough water..........I drink decaffinated coffee in the mornings.......Maybe I am eating too many calories. .........I post at the other place, too, and have seen you there...My name is "Viv" but that was taken!Hi Viv,
My chiropractor got me going with the water more than three years ago. She said that my muscles would do MUCH better and everything about me if I would drink at a minimum of half my weight in ounces. I went home and gave it a try and at first it was hard. I was running to the potty a lot but now it is less often that I have to go and It doesn't bother me to drink that much water. I have seen tons of improvement since I just "DID IT".
I bet you know this BUT coffee is a diaretic and will take water OUT of your system in the amount of coffee that you take in.
Calorie watching works for 'me'. Some don't bother with it and do fine but I feel that there are MANY that are "not" seeing results for the simple fact of too many calories. What you don't burn for the day YOU get to keep. :)
What other place is that? Friends??????
Hope you have a controlled carb/calorie day,
Susie in northern NY where it is beautiful out.
Yes, I do know that about the coffee! Shame isn't it?! I did do better yesterday on my water, because for some reason I was actually thirsty. I post at LCT, also...saw you in the "bread" thread!LOL! The irony of it all ...a "bread" thread in the LCT forum!
I am going to try to watch the calories more closely...I still may be taking in to many. Thanks for the advice!

We really do need to drink more water...VDR - I can go all day with one coffee and a diet coke...NO WATER!!! Am trying to improve, but at that I am on 3glasses a day...need 12 right???
When I first did Atkins I didn't even know that I really did have to calorie count...so I would stuff myself with calorie filled foods like bacon and eggs, rich creamy sauces and the likes...no wonder I really didn't lose weight!! - The Atkins book says we don't need to calorie count, but I suppose that this is still the key to losing weight, right?? - I am now doing a lower carb (40-50grams a day) and low cal/low fat diet...will see how that goes...am really trying to educate myself again...to look at food differently and not see low carb as just a quick way out of feeling crappy!!

Had to reply to this. Calories are very important. What made the Atkins diet so successful, was that forbidden foods are high in calories. In all diets, reducing carlories simply means you loose weight. (In the end, all diets are successful) So don't dump extra sauce, butter, etc. on allowed foods. Also avoid the so called Atkins approved foods. Just extra calories. This was marketed because people love starch and breads. They still want to have it. Sorry, you can't. I very careful in what I ate. No starch, pizza, cerial (that is important...sweetened or not cerial just adds caloires). I did this 1999 when there was no "low carb" processed foods. I lost all my weight in six months. I have since kept in off.
I don't eat a lot of sauces, or hardly any butter...but I do eat two fried eggs for Breakfast, with two strips of bacon, sometimes.. (or full fat yogurt I make) NO cereals or Atkins foods, etc. I eat yogurt for lunch, if I don't have it for breakfast, and a meat and salad or vegetable for dinner. I think my body is probably where it is equal with calories in and calories expended, but of course I want to weigh 10# less...isn't that always the way? I do make a lot of low carb desserts and usually have one serving before my family eats the rest...So I can cut that and increase exercise...and yes...MORE water! I hesitate to change any more about the way I eat, because I feel like I eat around 20 carbs a day anyway on days with no desserts (and usually even the days I eat them because I cut someplace else..) and I DO maintain here...but will tweak after vacation, again, and see..
