I have just finished induction, my husband would like to start Atkins with me as well but is having a hard time staying under 20 carbs. He only has about 5-10 pounds to lose. Does anyone know if he needs to do the induction, or can he just start with 25-30carbs a day?

Induction is 20 grams, not less than. It is intended to jump start the losing process.

Personally, I would follow this way of eating as it is written for best results.

Nobody is obliged to do what is in any of the books. (There are no diet police  ) Protein Power Plan starts at either 35 or 55 grams of carbs daily and people lose on it. You might want to read the topic to the right of your post: Which Low Carb Plan is right for me?" That will help you decide what to do.

Since neither of you has much to lose, you can make your own choices. But please don't say you are "doing Atkins" if you don't DO it. And should you do your own thing and NOT lose, don't blame the Atkins plan.

I hope that you will be successful in choosing the best plan for you and getting to your goal weights.

You definitely do not need induction to low-carb successfully. Just cutting down on carbs works well for many people. I follow Atkins rather strictly because I do not lose weight easily. But I know many people who have a lot of success by just cutting back on carbs. It is all about what works :)! Orchid

The Atkins for Life book recommends starting at about 60 g for people who don't have much to lose. Try to get ahold of a copy of it to see what it has to say.

I found it interesting--but am still so far from goal that much of it future info for me.

I'm glad I read this lol. I am a member on another forum, and I absolutely bashed for not following either Atkins or SB. I've cut carbs very successfully and have lost considerate weight doing so and that's without reading a book about it or watching it on a show. To me, ppl should do what's right for them.

Thanks for all the replies - I know I will continue to follow Atkins but it's nice to know my husband can start low carbing and hopefully still see some results, I know he'll definitely start feeling better.
