I've been on Atkins/PP maintenance, but I've been looking at the ads for SB that say "Lose the belly fat first." Just curious--what's the basis for that claim? I've never seen any such thing on the other low carb WOE's. And, BTW, is it really true? :)

I would say that its mostly true in my experience. However, my chest is where I have seen the biggest change *cries*

I'm a very new newbie and I hadn't heard that claim--hope it's got some truth to it! :)

Lol, tekgoddess. Thanks for answering, both of you. On Atkins and PP, the weight came off mainly from my hips, which was fine, but I've got a very stubborn waist, so this claim attracted my attention. But I just can't see how it can be true. Wishful thinking, perhaps?

I am just reading SBD ( and like what I am reading--hope to start phase 1 Monday). I have read and followed 'somercizing' for several years , "The Schwarzbien Principle', and 'The Insulin Resistance Diet' which are all very similar to 'SBD' give or take a few differences. I think all claim to help the "apple shaped" body , visceral overweight, hip to waist ratio-- whatever one wishes to call it-- the kind of overweight around the internal organs that can cause stroke & colon problems if not dealt with. Personally I am that type and found these programs very helpful to losing in this area. This was in contrast to my low fat/calorie only days when the scales would show a loss fast but my waist abdomen was the last to go. I think the emphasis on healthy components make a difference in these programs. Of course moderate exercise must e done by all for good health as is addressed in SBD

I am anxious to see what two weeks will do on SBD. I am vowing to keep it as closely as possible. I feel it will be the easiest of all the above mentioned progams for me personally to go into the future.

I think the experiences of many are the basis for the claim of "Lose the belly Fat"and that these diets emphasis the healthy fats and grains which just build better bodies than fake foods that weren't meant for consumption.

Thanks for that explanation, rosa...I think I understand it now. The distinction that's being made is about the "apple shaped body" and the fat surrounding the organs--not necessarily the superficial layer of fat on the abs. :) Yes, this does seem like a very healthful way of eating. I've been doing Atkins/PP maintenance with a careful attention to eating the good fats, so that's very close to SB. Good luck to you!

I must say after almost 3 weeks of SBD my clothes show my weight loss a lot more than the scale does, for whatever thats worth.

My first 28 days on SBD I lost an amazing POUND PER DAY!!!

And it was almost all belly fat..........

6" in the waist so far....going for 10" (at 225 lb., my waste should be about 38"...it was 48")

I can't explain it, but it worked for me....
