I started today, but haven't got the book yet, I'm just going off of the website for instructions / shopping lists / menus -- it's just so cold here, once it warms up a bit I'll go buy the book. I'm hoping to get some good results though

I've been playing around since 1/1 and today I'm down 4 pounds from my starting point. I got serious about it 2 days ago and really serious about it yesterday. I think the key for me is going to be making my menu in the morning and eating snacks/meals on time so I don't get hungry and grab something. Also I had gotten thrown by some antibiotics I am finishing today that made me feel sick in the beginning, so I ate some carbs to settle my stomach. Then I discovered milk on the "enjoy" list.

I am finding that I am craving foods more than I did on Atkins. I am eating 2 Atkins meals per day and then eating a super high fiber carb meal in the evening. I have 2 protein snacks per day and a protein shake pre workout. My evening snack is a piece of fruit. Suprisingly my heartburn has not returned yet. I havent bought the book , but I did get a copy of good carb/bad carb by the same author. I am hoping to hit the 170's with this plan. I just couldnt seem to get there with Atkins.

I went to Wal Mart Tuesday evening and bought the book. I am now in the process of reading it. I like it's simplicity. I hope I feel that way when I finish and begin. My goal is to have it read , make a shopping list , purchase the groceries and make my launch into phase one Monday. My plan is to follow phase one as closely as possible and see if I lose anywhere near what the author claims can be.
If I could lose 8 lbs I would be within a BMI that is normal as opposed to overweight -- alas, that has been my goal for about the last year + (but seemingly unobtainable.) I have followed first Atkins then Somersizing/The Schwarzbein Principle and lost weight and felt great. Still I would like to finally reach my ultimate goal.
I have 2 questions ,
does anyone have the little $5.+ little food guide book and have you found it helpful? &
what steps does one take to start a journal here?

Started on 01/09/04...as of this morning I've lost about 10 pounds. Since starting, I've had an out of town Buisness trip...that was tuff. Dinner was italian, but I maintained fairly well. I haven't followed Phase I exactly...utilized some Phase II. I think the biggest difference has been no eating after dinner, no pasta, rice, potatoes, or bread other than a few pieces of Oroweat Carb Counter. Rely on peanuts and cheese for snacks. This hasn't been too bad other than I really miss pasta. Tonight we are going out for fajitas...hope I can leave the chips and tortillas alone.

The small guide called Good fats Good carbs guide is wonderful and well worth the $$$.It helps make those grocery decisions easier.Plus it gives a simplified guide on what you can have on each phase.Hope this helps and best of luck.

PS. You adked how to start a journal,so I pasted and copied this from the newbies area in the main LC forum.Hope to see you in your new journal.:)
Since this is a very frequent question, here are the steps to start a journal:
1. Go to the forum Home Page by clicking on the "Home" icon" or any of the other shortcuts to get there (menu bar at the top, main logo, category bar)
Scroll down to the "My Journal / Bootcamp" section. Or use the Forum Jump at the bottom of every page - My Journal is near the bottom.
From the several journal sub-sections listed alphabetically, choose the one where your username (the one you login with) belongs, and click on it.
To start a new journal, click on the "New Thread" button, write your first entry and a title, and click "Submit".
To add entries to your journal and respond to others in their journals, click the "New Reply" button. The board will add a Journal button to the bottom of every one of your post but it only updates ONCE a day so be patient for up to 24 hours.
Linking to your journal: A link will be added automatically when you start your journal in the Journals area. The links will appear on your Profile page, and will appear under each of your posts. To find your journal, click on your picture/avatar on the main page, this will take you to your profile. From there, click on the Journal logo, and it will direct you to the last page of your journal.

I started on 1/19 and am down about 5.5 pounds since then. Not bad considering it's my TOM and I usually gain a pound or two then. I did WW for 5 months before this and lost 20 lbs, but it's just too easy to cheat on WW since they don't limit what you can eat.
I will probably stay on P1 for an additional week or so, since I picked a bad time to start a diet.

I too am doing kind of a SBD atkins combo (kind of like Schwarzbein but w/ occasional alcohol and pork rinds) and although my weight loss is slow as usual, I find it easier to stick to. The biggest problem with switching to SBD after being used to atkins is the restrictions on fat. I don't think of high fiber carbs as much of an indulgence, but fat does still does to me even after low carbing for a couple of years.

Wow! Good news all over! Many of you are doing so well! It's quite encouraging. I started on 09/15 and am down 28 lbs. so far. I had a temporary setback when I took a break over the holiday season, but the great thing about SBD is you can get right back on! Now I only have 2 more lbs. before 30 gone! I agree with Linda that you definitely lose the belly fat first. I can fit into 14's now, which I NEVER could before by getting down to the 160's! This is wonderful. I love cooking now, because I'm finding all these creative ways to fix healthy meals, thanks to so many of YOU!
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and pleasant weekend. (BTW: Hope you enjoy watching the Patriots WIN the Superbowl this Sunday!)

Happy saturday All,
I was down another 1.5 lbs. this AM.That gives me a total of 9.5 for less than 3 wks.(it'll be 3 on Tures.) I have not changed my stats yet as I want to make sure they stay off.
It's amazing that when you really stick with the plan and eat only what is on it that you can go to places where you used to munch and it doesn't even bother you.I think the cravings being gone are the key...you eat less sinfully and don't eat as much when that little voice doesn't nag you all the time.
Hoping everyone has a great Super Bowl weekend and has stocked up on plenty of "legal" things to eat.
Linda

This is actually kind of fun.

Happy Tuesday! Wow, everyone seems to be doing GREAT! Linda: 9.5 lbs. in under 3 weeks? That's AWESOME! PStar: Putting those jeans on must have felt wonderful; what a terrific NSV ("Non Scale Victory")! Dancngqwn: 13-15 lbs. in one month is very impressive! It seems like none of you succumbed to the SuperBowl Munchout syndrome - good for you! I did all right also. Today's the victory parade here in Boston but I'm stuck at work in Lexington; Waaaah!
It's just as well, though. I heard they're having NO portable toilets at the celebration, due to fear of vandalism - Ha-HA! THAT should be interesting!
My weigh-in day is Thursday, but I expect to be down another pound or so by then. I've started exercising more and now I have more energy to do other things like clear clutter and clean. (I'm even starting to think about painting - Somebody, STOP me!) Just kidding, I think it's good that cleaning myself out on the inside makes me want to clean on the outside too. All for the better.
Have a tremendous week everyone! I'll be checking in.
Ciao for now!

Hi all, I just started the SBD from Atkins I love reading all the input on the forum but I am having a hard time finding my last posts.I cannot seem to find the directions to use the forum? I would appreciate any help. I am very excited with the choices on the SBD plan, I had V8 juice for the first time in years and I love all the veggies.I do not really like the low fat cheeses and the fake butter(Smart Balance) is anyone having the same stats using the real cheeses and butter? Reading your input really helps me stay focused ,thanks. If I can just understand the way the forum works I will be a dedicated user. Marsha

Day 27 down 15...a little more than a half pound per day.
Getting to where I don't think about being on a diet. I think I may be in transition to where I actually think this is a WOE and WOL.
No craving. Still haven't had any candy, cookies, cake, white bread, etc.
Had a great chicken stir fry last night which I love. I wanted to eat more than I did but I find that I get FULL faster and don't eat near the amount that I did before starting SB.
Fiber does seem to be an issue, even when eating lots-o-veg, I know that in the Book, Phase II lists Uncle Sams cereal 2 or 3 times for breakfast during the 14 days. I've been having it every day w/strawberries. It seems to be high in carbs (good carbs?) but I feel better because of the additional fiber. As long as I am still losing weight I think I'll continue to eat it.
Thanks to everyone for kind comments and encouragement. I really use this forum to "keep my head in the game".
P.S. pstar dosen't refer to the trips I make to the bathroom because of increased fluids. My small software development company is called Prairie Star Info Tech. I use pstar in most forums.

Lost another 1.5 lbs. Valentine's goal is 162 - think I can make it now. Linda, the same thing happens with me; whenever I start adding more carbs, my cravings start to increase! My other trigger is alcohol. If I have more than one glass of red wine, I become RAVENOUS, for some reason! That's why I have to be very careful.
I think my body is used to eating less now; so I'd better increase my activity so I don't plateau. Starting TODAY! I plan to do a 40 minute step aerobics tape around 11AM today; that should help.
Have a great day everyone!

Hi cathie,
You don't have to count calories on SB but the difference is that you watch your sat fat intake and have lean meats. We watch for the hydrogenated oils, etc. but it's easy and all in the book, which if you decide to do it I'd highly recommend it.There are a lot of successes on this WOE,esp. those who follow it like they are supposed to.It is easier to me,to follow, than Atkins as it is more liberal esp. for those social occasions.
Hope this helped...

Day 32 down 16...
I've 'officially' been in Phase II for 1 week today. I've lost a little over 1# during the last week.
The book warns that weight loss will slow on Phase II. In fact, if you read the section about why people fail on this WOE, slowing weight loss is one of the reasons talked about. Be sure that you are ready for this. After the quick weight loss in Phase I only losing 1 pound in a week can seem a little dishartening.
The upside is that I feel great, have no cravings, haven't really cheated, and I'm learning to control what I eat. I'm most definately making a transistion to a healthier life style day by day.
We dined out twice this weekend...I was able to make good menu choices and it didn't bother me that others had food that I would have really chowed down on just a few weeks ago.
Suggestion: Keep the SB book handy...I continually find information that relates to where I am as I move through the process of learning this new WOE.

I think that SB is easier for me to follow than Atkins WOE. I don't like much red meat and this is more for me. I like that I am not counting my calories and losing weight. I have slowed down in my weight loss since I switched to phase 2, but am still noticing a difference in my body (loss of fat). I have been working out and have so much more energy that I have ever had on ANY diet/WOE that I have tried, and I am not hungry!! :yay: We also went out to dinner and I order the blacken mahi mahi and felt like I was treating myself. I don't miss bread (which is amazing!) and other carbs.

Hi back at ya lawoman,
You know, I think it is easy to cheat 'unknowingly' while eating too much of a good thing when foods are being added back in. When I went to Phase II I added back in cereal. The book indicated Uncle Sams for breakfast but not every day. Being a cereal lover I added it back in everyday. Bad move on my part. I think it slowed me down to the point of almost stalling. Lesson Learned: Once every couple of days seems to work a lot better. Losing again.
While I'm not a SB 'old timer' it seems to me that the flexibility can be good and bad. With most plans we are given calorie counts, fat counts, carb counts, portion size, etc. and we are told that if we follow we will lose. As we know this isn't the case with SB and we need to be fully engaged. We have more choice and need to be careful and make good decisions.
I am now very careful when adding foods back in to my WOE. Recently I've added small apples and dried appricotes. After my experience with the cereal, I now know that I probably should not have them every day and that I need to monitor their effect before adding in more foods.
I think that having to make these food decisions and monitor their effect on I how I feel and weight loss is the thing that is going to make make me successful on this WOE in the long run.

You took the words right out of my mouth pstar.I do have the concept of understanding what needs to be done,or what should not be eaten every day but I need to put it all together in my head.I love cereal, too, esp. oatmeal and had missed my winter comfort food in doing Atkins for almost 4 yrs. Once I could have it,I ate too much of it.I did buy more, but I vowed to only have it once a week.It will take willpower but I need to do that.If I can't let it alone it will no longer have a home on my shelf! :)
Thanks again for spelling it all out for me.I think I need to read the book again and let some more things soak in.
Hugs,

Day 35...down 17#....28# to go....
I really feel happy and proud of the loss and my ability to stick to it.
Lessons learned:
I need to continually have the book handy. I find information that didn't mean much 20 days ago that is very useful now. I probably read something out of it every couple of days.
I look at every label for every food item I purchase.
Just because food items are added back in for Phase II doen't mean I should have more than a couple of them(small portion size) a day.
I feel better if I drink more water than should be humanly allowed.
I find that I feel better if I eat good carb items earlier in the day and not at the evening meal.
I have never in my life gone 35 days, or 2 days for that matter, without sweets. I don't crave them and find it easy to not indulge.
I love eggs and chicken breast and never realized I could get sick of them. Need to make an effort to incorporate more variety.
I miss peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches most. I have had whole wheat toast with peanutbutter a couple of times for breakfast. Just not the same as my good ole PB&J sandwich.
I need to quit weighing myself so often....

Hoping everyone has a great Valentines Day...

It's day 43 and I shed another 2lbs in the last week. The rate has slowed over the last 16 days. I lost 15 lbs in the first 27 days and 4 lbs over the last 16 days.
I feel really good about the almost 2 lb per week average over the last couple of weeks. I know it may slow even more, but I'll take it while it's here.
I'm going to try a couple more of the added in items for Phase II this next week and monitor.
If I didn't lose another pound, SBD is still the best thing to happen to me in a long time. I feel great and I look better...as far as looks, any thing would be an improvement...there's a reason I've spared the gallery from a photo upload!
I started out somewhat skeptical...I'm now convinced.
