i have been on atkins for almost 2 weeks and i am only down 3 lbs.
i have stayed under 20 carbs. what am i doing wrong?
i have heard that the depression meds that i have been taking (paxil)for over a year might slow down the weight loss.
i orig. started june '03 and stayed on introduction through mid november, then started back up again on january 5th '04.
the first time around i lost 15 lbs. in 4 months.10 of that 15 lbs was in the first 3 weeks.my husband lost 50 lbs in 3 months.i know that guys lose the weight faster then women, but what is wrong with me?
does anyone have any words of wisdom of advise for a struggling lo carber???

Hi kitty...
Three pounds is not bad at all in two weeks. It has taken me 5 months to lose ten! Anti depression meds can slow weight loss a great deal. Paxil is problably the worst offender for weight gain. I was on celexa for a year and before that prozac. Gained almost 50 pounds in all. I have been off them for almost 6 months and still the weight is coming off slow. I have read it can take 6 months for the body to adjust and metabolism to get back to normal. Go to this site http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/
and search under weight gain or weight loss...lots of people have had weight problems with these meds but it is possible to lose weight while on them...it just takes longer :(

And increase your exercise.
IMO, Atkins isn't blunt enough about the calorie limitations. It's just easier on this WOE than on others.

I have also been on induction for two weeks with only a three pound weight loss. The times I have done Atkins in the past, it was the same way. This time, I will not get discouraged, we should not get discouraged! Have to beleive it works.
Let me know how the next week goes.

I too am on Paxil CR, along with Buspar and tons of other meds which almost all cause weight gain or slow down weight loss. I realize that I have health problems that warrant these meds and accept this and take the weight loss as it comes. Realize that this is for life, not just for a little diet then back to the way of eating b4. So, relax and enjoy the weight that is coming off. ALWAYS listen to what you physicians have to say and do the best you can. I see some people MELTING b4 my eyes on Atkins and I am much slower, but I'm a happy camper. Hang in there!!
