Hi All

I ended up at the doctor today feeling awful. My blood pressure was 70/45. This is not the first time that I have recorded a reading this low. Is there any link between Atkins and hypotension? Very interesting to watch my reaction, too. Hit the sugar and caffeine trying to make myself feel better, and to no avail. ?? I am wondering if I have just found the major cause of my weight gain over the last few years ??

Sort of: low carb eating does reduce blood pressure. Most people previously on blood pressure meds can go off them with Atkins. Of course, if it starts out normal to low, it will get a bit lower.

Here's a good WebMD (http://my.webmd.com/content/article/54/61511) article on hypotension.

HTH.

Hi Kristine

Thank you for this. I am betting on adrenal malfunction myself. I have all of the signs - bad skin, low BP, spaced out feeling, improvement with exercise, insomnia, shakiness for no reason, and am being treated for depression even though my life is good and I am the happiest I have ever been! Most doctors do not think to test for it and I am unsure why. I'll let you know the result.

Just as an update: one of the side effects of the new anti inflammatories that I have been given is low blood pressure. I am going to stop taking them and see how I feel for the next couple of days. I just want people to reading to be aware that it is probably nothing to do with Atkins at all. I'll post again in a few days.

Mine is often low. Part of it is because we don't hold on to as much water now as we used to. i don't have any bad effects from it though that i am aware of.

Leanne,
My dad was just hospitalized for low blood pressure caused by dehydration. Is it possible you could be dehyrated?
