Why can't we start a SB forum? Who is the "powers above" that can make this happen?? If you are reading this can we take a vote and if we break 50+ on this thread would that be enough to start one??

I love Atkins for Life but think it's because it seems a bit healthier then the DANDR version. That is why I'm interested in SB and learning more. A forum might help others decide as well.

Thanks!

I think it would be a good idea to look at the bottom of the homepage and write a polite letter to the people who run the board. I did this asking for a 'Stillmans' forum and was politely refused as there is no book in print to support such a forum.

Your question has been answered before. Apparently because the South Beach book starts out saying clearly that it is "not a low carb diet", it is not appropriate for it to have a separate forum here. I think the moderators are evaluating the issue, however.

And I have seen numerous threads on the board where you can chat with other South Beachers. Have you done a search?

I have found other "spots" where there are South Beachers but think it would be much easier to have it all in one spot. I am not on the South Beach diet yet but in the "learning phase" and do consider it a "low carb" diet as I think pretty much everyone else does too, even if the book states it technically is not.

I have gained so much info from these boards and this web site and if they do decide to list a forum for South Beach that would be great but if not, I will still utilize all the great info on this site. It is a stupendous resource for anyone doing ANY low carb type diet.

Thanks everyone!

Melissa: From the little I have heard, I would agree with you that South Beach fits into the lc category. The problem appears to be that the author claims it is not.....

I wouldn't mind a bit if there were a separate forum for it. There are a number of forums on this board that I've never visited, as they don't seem to apply to me at this time. But I guess there has to be some sort of limit.....and the moderators here have done such a marvelous job of making this a great place that I just have to trust their continued judgment.

My best to you,

Kay

But I guess there has to be some sort of limit....

Remember all these forums and all these posts have to sit on someone's server somewhere and they have to constantly maintain it so the forum isn't down for long period of time. The moderators also have the wonderful job of reading through every post, no matter if it's the 10'th million time they have seen the same post idea to be sure of appropriate content and to provide help where they can.

Yes, you guys are right. I do agree! And I have been directed to a few SB forums elsewhere. I just think THIS board is the best!

I'll continue on this board as I like it better then any I have visited so far.

Thanks again,
Melissa

There are forums on this board for diets which I have never seen anyone following. South Beath is a low carb diet whatever they say in the book and in my opinion deserves its own place here.
I do not believe there is anything in the software preventing it. And if the powers that be want to save disk space they could get rid of the numerous graphics and pictures which people upload and don't fulfil any real purpose.

Maybe if someone on South Beach volunteered to be the moderator it would make a difference.

And if the powers that be want to save disk space they could get rid of the numerous graphics and pictures which people upload and don't fulfil any real purpose. It could be the ability to upload the graphics and pictures is available because the majority of the people using this forum asked for it. Don't know the answer to that, myself. And I believe this question has been addressed before and adding South Beach is under consideration.

I still think we need a South Beach forum on here. It is a form of lower carb, just read the plan. I wonder why people are so opposed to this. According to another post I read, we have other plans that are not very low carb listed.

I would be willing to share moderation responsibility. I am sure we could find someone amongst the ranks to volunteer.

I have to admit my curiosity has grown about why the South Beach diet seems to be excluded here. It almost seems like there is a "political" reason--i.e. concern about the anti-Atkins implications of the diet. Isn't it really a revision of Atkins, claiming that it is "healthier" because it eliminates/reduces saturated fat? I could see the board becoming divided into two camps...pro and anti saturated fat...that would be ugly. I would hate to see that happen.

I dont think that would happen since for the most part every respects each others view and opinions. I would agree that it seems like the reason we dont have a forum is political, however I am just making an assumption here and could be wrong. I have sent a formal request in the comments forum. I requested the reason for no South Beach Forum.

I can't remember where I saw the post where one of the moderators addressed this issue...and it wasn't that long ago, either. She stated that a number of plans were under review and there would be some information about revisions/additions coming when the issues surrounding these changes were resolved. Someone can do a search for this if they are interested. For some reason I seem to remember it was "Rosebud" who responded to the post about South Beach, but there is a 90% chance I remember wrong. She DID NOT say they wouldn't add it...just that reviews of several items were underway.

That would be a very accurate description. :)

Excellent! So it sounds like someone is already aware of the wish for the forum. I appreciate the response Tamarian. Thanks so much :)

You could always run your own thread-under the Buddies forum. LC Singles has well over 400 pages and no forum of our own, not has it stopped our communicating. I doubt posting 50 pages would get much moderator attention.

I support having a South Beach Forum too. For others who do here is my suggestion.
We have to recognize that every forum here represents time and money to mainain so if you want a South Beach Forum do these three things...

1) Become a contributing member and encourage others to do so too. That means paying a small contribution to the forum founders.

2) Offer to become a forum moderator

3) Contact the forum founder(s) (I bet they're lurking out there anyway :agree: ) and let them know your argument in favor of the new forum.

Also why don't you start a POLL to see how many want a SB forum.

Good Luck!

I too would like to see this. This is the best LC site going. While SB is not as LC as other diets, it is still in the "carb greatly reduced" basket. One of the reasons I would like it is because I don't have time to wade through all the other msgs that don't really apply to SB. It would be a time saver. Also I would like a SB recipe spot. I know the other recipes apply, but I would like this in addition to the others since the allowance of some food is appropriate to SB and not to some of the other LC plans.

I'd also like to point out that since there is an allowed spot for SB on this site...this msg will be a part of it...why can't there be a forum? It doesn't compute in my mind to allow this board and not allow a forum.

Not sure I understand. This thread is 2 years old, and there is an SBD sub-forum.
