Hi all,

As my username indicates, I'm pretty new to this. I'm wondering if the Neanderthin concept / diet is the same thing as KISS....I'd also be interested in others' experience with either. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the New Zealand Kiss diet? You dont say where you are from so I am not sure. The NZ Kiss diet is not the same it is the usual low fat high carb one.

There's a synopsis of Neanderthin on the forum here:

But, what is KISS?

Thanks for the link Karen. KISS is essentially, "Keep it Simple Stupid/Sweetie!" Its a plan where you eat only unprocessed foods - ie, eggs, fish, chicken, meats, veggies. But nothing man made - so no condiments, butters, cream, processed meats or cheeses etc.

They sound very similar.

I'm from Canada. KISS is totally low carb. You can shed a lot of weight FAST on it - if that's what you want. I tend to do KISS Mon-Friday and low carb on the weekends. I find it to be a great balance (but note, I am more trying to maintain at this point than lose).

Here's a link that describes KISS: Kiss (http://atkinsfanclub.freehosting.net/KISS/kissrules.htm)

Here's another link from someone who's been losing successfully on KISS:

This page points out the difference between KISS and Neanderthin is that the latter allows fruit and nuts, while KISS does not.

I love Neanderthin because it's not that restrictive. I just pretend I'm naked with a stick in the wilderness and can only eat those things I would be able to eat if that was my life. I have a lot of weight to lose, yet, but almost 30 pounds in four months ain't bad! Especially, when this is my new way of living and I don't plan to ever return to "civilized" eating, again. I don't count anything. i just don't eat beans, grains, or dairy products, and watch my fruit and nut intake while I'm still trying to lose those unwanted "civilized" pounds. Sounds like you've done really well. I lost 117 pounds on the Weight Watcher diet years ago. It was a good diet, but that is what it was...a diet. I gained it back over the last 17 years. Never again. With this, I don't even have to think about it. If I'm hungry, I forage for something in my desk drawer...an apple, a nut, a piece of chicken (actually, that's in the fride)...eat a little of it, feel satisfied, and go about the rest of my day.

Hi Captxray,

Nice to see a Neanderthin follower here! Not sure if the plan isn't very popular, or if there is a forum dedicate to the plan elsewhere?

Well, their web page is pretty sparse for activity. Very few people are on this diet, methinks. Too bad. It's a simple plan. It's fun to be a modern day hunter and gatherer. It makes a lot of sense to me. But, whatever...I really believe in the low carb idea and think that its' time has finally arrived...after about a six thousand year hiatus. I think that it's great that so many people finally got on Dr. Atkins' band wagon and are showing the highly untrained medical community that, maybe...just maybe...they need to look outside of the box on this one.

Wa'il, if you're interested, st john's u's BB system carries a paleofood listserve, the archives of which can be read by the public, too. Sometimes it looks a little odd...lots of nick-picky meanspirited fights about such things as how un-paleo vinegar is.

But if you want to simply read on the topic, you can do so for months by following the links off

http://www.paleodiet.com/

the BB is linkable off there, too. :)

This is a very informative thread. It's a pity I've only just discovered it!

Captxray, I like the sound of your way of eating, which sounds similar to my own.

Are you still here?

Still here, and now it's 31 pounds! I'd like to know more about you're diet, Andy. Mine is a combination of Neanderthin, and the blood type diet of D'Adamo. In other words, I don't eat anything that isn't allowed on the blood type diet for my blood type (Type O), but I stick primarily to Neanderthin...fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, meat, fish, and leafy green veggies, with an occassional summer squash thrown in, even though they aren't in season where I live, right now...I guess I cheat, a bit.

Hi Captxray,

Glad you're still around, and congratulations on your 31 pounds.

Some of what you say is new to me. I have not come across this blood group restriction on food before. Where can I see more information on it? Incidentally, I notice that you have the prevailing mjority blood type for North America (Type O) while I have the prevailing majority blood type for Europe (Type A).

My own diet is really a mixture of the various aspects I most liked in several different diets, particularly the Stone Age (or Pre-Cereal) diet, published in 1958 by Dr Richard Mackarness in his boo "Eat Fat and Grow Slim", and the Eskimo-style meat-only diet published by Dr Blake Donaldson in 1964 in his book "Strong Medicine" based on 44 years as a heart specialist who slimmed down all his patients as part of their heart treatment. I have reviewed both these books for this forum, and you can read these reviews if you are interested by clicking on these links:

If you are interested in seeing more about my ever-evolving way of eating, and some of the thought processes behind it, these are discussed at length in my journal, and I would be pleased to continue discussions with you about it either there or here. For my journal, click here:

I look forward to hearing more from you.

:D
Hey Andy!

The blood type diet is from D'Adamo's book, "Eat Right For Your Type." It can be found in any bookstore or nutrition center. His diet for type A is quite different. In fact, he says that type A is the most conducent to vegetarian eating...but doesn't have to be a vegetarian. I've lost 32 pounds as of today! I feel great. I'll never return to the old WOE.

Hi Captxray,

Thanks for the information. It's new to me, I will have to find out more...sounds like a library job.

It cracks me up to hear that my blood type is well suited to vegetarianism, as I do not eat them! Thinking of it in Stone Age terms, man would have plucked the odd few berries or pieces of fruit from bushes in season, as I do, and maybe the odd few leaves. But it was not until about 8,000 years ago that man settled down and deliberately cultivated crops and vegetables as the mainstay of his diet.

Still, I'll give this book a read, if it's available here in the UK. Always interested to see another complexion on things.

Andy
