HI Maxine, when are you leaving? My hubby and I are camping at Disney World for a couple of days in January, then travelling on to Texas to visit with our daughter for awhile. We have a 5th wheel, this is our first winter of freedom!

Hi Brvida, We're leaving here on or about Jan 6-7th. We're in Cheboygan Michigan up near the Big Mac bridge etc..it's a 5 hr drive with ther trailer just to the border of southern Michigan. We will stay there the first night then take I-69 to I-65 to Nashville to Chatanooga and pick up I-75
stopping at Leesburg (Lake Griffin State Park)on our way down to Bradenton where we'll be till end of March at Horseshoe COve RV Resort.
Nice there, has it's own fishing and boat docks, and it's own island with a walking bridge out to it. My family is there also across town so neat.
We have a 28 ft Keystone Outback, and a 2003 Dodge 4dr with the big Hemi:) (Can you tell the hubby retired from Chrysler? LOL
Thanks for writing, Maxine

Hi Maxine, I just had a great chuckle. We have a 2003 Ford 350 Diesel, duel wheels. Our son works for Ford, can you tell?!! We don't have any definite plans yet except for the visit to Disney World and then whenever we decide to, continuing on to Texas. I am interested in walking on some beaches in the Clearwater area as I do enjoy looking for sharks teeth. We will be travelling with our old (16 yr old) chocolate lab though so that is going to curtail some things. He does love travelling!

Our truck is also a 2003, Dodge as I said. Our trailer is also. I tried to insert a picture in this message but couldnt get it done, cant seem to reduce it enough.
We travel with two dogs, a yellow Lab, Luna 10 yrs old, and a mini dachsund 15 yr old! First time on such a long trip with them although we've done the National Forest Campgrounds in Mich Upper Pennsula..
looking for sharks teeth sounds great! Have to try that sometime.

Hi Maxine, how many years have you been going south for the winter? Do you find it hard to find open camp grounds in the northern areas? We left our trailer in Virginia, will pick it up on our way back down south. Thought it was difficult to find open campspots at this time of year. Lilian

Hi Lilian, This is our first year going with the camp trailer..i called and the Georgia State Parks are open all year, you can check their websites. And we plan to be out of the cold weather after the first day, well not out but close to out. We stop at Flying J travel Plazas and you can park overnight there for free and they have great buffets in their resturants.Truckers eat well. After that we should be in warmer climites where we can actually camp.
I see you'll be coming down on another route but you can always park even at Walmarts just to sleep and move on.
I'm sure you won't have a problem finding a place. Let us know when you are leaving.
I got on the web and made an itinirary and called the places to comfirm they would be open BUT didn't make reservations as we might stop somewhere else. We're playing it by ear and the weather.
Best regards, Maxine PS Hubby says we're leaving Mich on the 7th of Jan.

Good morning Maxine
We stopped at a few Flying J's on our last trip, altho only for fuel. I love stopping there, they have anything you may need. We will leave Virginia sometime after Christmas and before New Years and will check, as you mentioned, the different States websites to find who is open and who isn't.
I take it you are retired, or were you a stay at home mom? I retired this past July after working 50 years. My hubby always says our 5th wheel is the result of 100 years of work, 50 for him and 50 for me! Shocking when you look at it in that way. We are looking forward to our golden years.
Have a great day

Yes we're retired..I'm 62, hubby 65 in Jan. He was in USAF for several yrs till Vietnam then went to work for Chrysler for 26 yrs. Now we live up here in the Straits area of Michigan on a 400 acre northern lake. We retired here in 98' having bought the land in 94'..we love it..all our neighbors are gone from Oct till May and we're alone here but that's ok..my husband restored a 1952 Allis Chalmers tractor which he uses to keep our private road plowed out in the Winter. No, I can't drive it.
I could never be happy fulltiming, (great for some) , but I'll be glad when we can get out camping more often. It's just a little hard with the two dogs..they've always lived so remotely here and although they are getting better and certainly not viscious in any way, they do still bark at other dogs and we have to be alert as we won't let them irritate anyone.
Also since you cant leave them alone in the campgrounds in the camper, it limits what we can do. They are dear old girls though and its a price we have to pay.
Have a great day all of you on this thread, Maxine

We visited northern Michigan once and enjoyed it very much. It is a very beautiful area. You have the best of two worlds, a home in an area that is wonderful plus winter vacations where you want. Your dogs enjoy their freedom I bet and I can understand how hard it must be for them to be more confined.
Our Lab has been an inside, sleep all day kind of dog so the travelling and staying in the trailer is no different than sleeping at home. He does have a hard time getting up the trailer steps tho so we've made a kind of ramp for him. Our last trip was with hubbies parents, we're 66 and 65 so you can imagine how old they are! My mother in law thought the ramp was for her purpose. We told her she could use it but that it really was for Brandy's benifit. She had a good chuckle.

Hello everyone: I am fascinated by this thread as we do a lot of tent camping, and now that I'm 60 I think ahead to the possiblity of having an actual roof over our heads in downpours.
In some ways it doesn't make a lot of sense for us, as we have a home in North Carolina and a cabin in New Hampshire. And many years ago, I had a cabover camper which we almost never used.....except when we had company and we'd sleep in the camper in the driveway and let the guests stay in the house. We took it to several campgrounds in California ( Yosemite and King's Canyon) but always ended up sleeping outside in a tent and cooking over the fire. The porta potty was a fine feature, however! And the camper really came in handy once during a monsoon on a beach in Ensenada, Mexico.
Still. I tend to gravitate towards the idea of RV traveling once my husband retires. You folks keep posting, and I will keep listening....

Good morning Maxine, and everyone else -
We are in Ontario, close to Toronto. We had hoped to leave for Virginia on Tuesday but I'm battling a bad chesty cough. Hopefully three more days will make the difference. Christmas is with our son in Virginia, then a short stop in Florida, well maybe not that short, then on to Texas for time with our daughter. We are all Canadians so how 2/3's of our family ended up in the US is a question we can't answer. We share a home with our youngest son and his wife so when we are on the road, we don't have to worry about the house. It sure works well for us, and to be honest, I think they're happy when we aren't in their hair.
Have a great day, the sun is shining brightly here, glistening on the snow that fell over night.

What a lovely picture, the sun shining on the snow. I seem to remember you said you we're picking up your RV in Virginia ? So you leave it there with those folks and camp from there?
We're getting really anxcious to go, but also for this Christmas. We have two bio and three adopted (bio to us:) grandchildren. The newest is 2,1/2 precious girl from South Korea. We got her at 14 months so this will be he second Christmas with us and we LOVE shopping for all thos cute little girl things again. Our oldest grandchild, 18, is a girl , other three boys so a long time between.
Evie has Hypotonia, Turners Syndrome and missing the lower part of her left arm. They discouraged us from adopting as prognosis was grim. No sitting , no walking etc. she couldnt even control her head, but know what?
Evie doesnt just walk she runs and dances! Last Christmas I bought her a book and record of "I HOPE YOU DANCE" and cried when I bought it, but now our hearts sing with this miracle child!
She's quiks, loving and bright and we can't imagine life without her. My daughter also has Turners Syndrome (Evies mom).
SO there's your Christmas miracle for this year.
Evie even has a webpage here's the link. Maxine

In the spring we will bring the trailer back with us as we intend to do some travelling during the summer, but after our November trip, we decided, because of the weather, to store it in Virginia, ready for us to head back south after Christmas.
Wow, what a wonderful family you must have and talk about Christmas miracle!! I tried to look at Evie's webpage but didn't know where to go once I got in there. Children make Christmas, that's for sure. Do all your children live close to you?

Hi, I'm so glad I stopped in and saw the RVing thread. We love to RV also. We are both retired. My DH is 70 and I'm 64. We have a 1997 Ford Dualy 350 Power Stroke. An antique 1972 Vega 23 ft. camper. We love the old thing, talked about getting a fifth wheel, but can't seem to part with the Vega. We went several places last summer. From Dalton, Ga. to Las Vegas and lots of interesting places along the way. Had some little problems on the journey, but DH fixed them all along the way. We would just stay an extra day and work on her. After that trip we went to Marblehead, Ohio and Cleveland, Oh. My DH loves to wind surf. We wanted to go to FL. sometime this winter, but can't seem to find a place vacant to camp. We checked on going to a place in South Texas. That's a real long way so haven't made up our mind's. By the way I use to live in Mackinaw City, about 30 years ago. I lived there for eight years, on Sinclair St., I worked a Ft. Michilamackinac as a tour guide and ticket sales. Both my children were born in Petosky, Mich. It gets to cold up there in the winter! I love the summers there you won't find a prettier place than Northern Michigan. I have a friend Alice Cardinal that still lives in Cheboygan. Back to the camping I hope you both have good trips and lots of adventures. When we were on the road going West I told DH that this was the life, riding down the highway, sipping senior coffees from Mickey D's while eating a fried apple pie, and enjoying the sights of this big beautiful country of America.(of course ladies that was before lcing). will have to substitue something else for the apple pie now.lol

I just saw on CNN that "Hardee's" is selling a low carb burger NO BUN wrapped in a lettuce leaf for low-carbers..maybe those who travel will want to try that..
I don't remember seeing many Hardees on the road but will get on their website and look for locations..

Di you know for sure if any State Parks are open for camping near Dalton in Jan? We want to stay somewhere around Chatannoga for one of our stops and Dalton is where we usually stop at a motel on our way back North if we're without the camper.
I called and the State park hotline said they were open year round which is wonderful, but hate to get there and get a suprise.
Have as stated before two old dogs we can't leave behind, 10 and 15 yrs old so only stay at pet friendly campgrounds.
ANyway it's not too cold here, lower 30's, but dreary, mix rain and snow. Makes for dicey roads.

Hi there ladies,
I, too, am an RV camper! We have a 28 foot Nomad travel trailer and a Ford F-250 diesel.
However, me and DH are still at least 25 years from retirement  , so we stick to weekend getaways and a week here and there as vacation allows.
So if you were quick and did the math, you'd know I am not officially "allowed" to be over here inthe TOFF's, but.....just don't tell anyone ;)

When we travelled to Texas at the end of October, most of the campsites we stayed at published that they closed Oct 31st but when we asked, some of them said they were open all winter but the water was shut off at the end of Oct. Guess it's trial and error. We are definately leaving on Friday morning, rain or shine. Maxine, in Bradenton, do they have model hook ups? One place we stayed at in Victoria TX had wireless hookups and it was wonderful. That was the only place we found like that on that trip but have since looked on the internet and have a list of places, not necessaryily where we will be but we will have the list of reference.

We have Fort Mountain State Park, and the Corp. of Engs. at Carters Lake. I will try to check and see if they are open in the winter months. Sometimes the water is shut off, guess they are afraid the pipes will freeze. Even thought we are this far South we still get freezing weather sometimes. I think there is a KOA at Chatt.,Tn. and also Chester Frost Park., it's on the Lake., also Chatt.

As far as the water goes it would be great but we can dry camp too long as we can sleep and move on:)We like the National Forest and National Park campgrounds as we have a Golden Access Pass and camp for 50% off there..(we are retired after all)..
I'm not sure if Horseshoe cove has moden hookups..my aunt and cousin stay there every Winter and use a laptop, I can check.and we like it as it's close to I-75 but you'd never know it. It's so secluded. They have a webpage , Horseshoe Cove RV Resort,( Bradenton)Maybe we need LowCarb stickers so when we camp other people can notice in campgrounds and exchange ideas. We belong to IRV2 and have one of theirs, also Good Sam. Hubby doesnt like stickers on RV so we'll put them n a name board to display at campgrounds.

Hi all, We are actually full time RV'ers but haven't gone anywhere!! We have a few more years to retirement, but weren't happy home owners, so we sold the house and bought a Newmar Kountry Star 5th wheel & Ford F500. The reason we haven't traveled is because we are still working but we belonged to a couple of "membership resort" systems and went between the two until I started working in one of them and we haven't left in almost 8 years. I'm now the general manager and really like my job. We also had 1 child still at home, although she wandered off recently (not too far). Love that empty nest! We have 2 other kids 28 & 31, both with families
We just started LCing and we're both off to a fairly good start. Really enjoy the forum!

We have the F350 and pull at 36 foot Jayco Designer. We are very happy in our life style and find lo carbing just as easy on the road as when staying at home. We too have 3 kids although a little older than yours, as am I. We will soon be on the road to Texas, (leaving on Thursday). On our last trip to Florida, we had trouble getting on line but when we arrived back in this cold north, our son fixed up our computer and now we should be able to get signed on whenever we want. We started this WOL last summer, have had our ups and downs but on the whole, think it's great. Are your other kids close?

Good morning to all
Lindym, it's nice to have the kids close. We share a home with our youngest but the other two are far away! Oh well, being retired, we can visit whenever the whim hits. What kind of embroidery do you do? I enjoy doing the counted cross stitch and always have something on the go, sometimes more than one, like now.
Windy, understand about wanting to keep your home, that's why we're so lucky. When we leave, our son just takes over all the payments. When we return, it's split 50/50. Who could ask for anything better.
I enjoy cooking so if anyone has a fravorite recipe to share, would appreciate it.

We, too are RVers, though not full time either. I am 51 and DH is 56, but he "retired" on disability 2 years ago. He has since become a member of our town board and the Executive Vice President of the local Chamber of Commerce, so it is difficult for us to to away for long. We also have 3 grandchildren that I can't bear to be away from for too long!
We stored our 35' diesel pusher motorhome in South Carolina this winter and are about to leave on Sunday for our second two week trip down there. It is not real warm in South Carolina in the winter, but it is a lot better than central New York!
We travel with our 11 month old black lab. She travels real well, even though she takes up a lot of room.
I think that cooking low carb is easier when in our RV. Eating meat and veggies is a lot simpler than adding potatoes or pasta to the meal. We have a crock pot and use that a lot in the motorhome. We just put a hunk of meat in it in the morning, go off for the day on an adventure and have dinner ready for us when we get back.
I also do a lot of counted cross stitch plus painting, reading and computing. We can access the internet using our cell phone, when in the network. The last campground we stayed in in Myrtle Beach had a wireless internet connection. That was real nice. We were always connected and didn't have to worry about minutes or if it was after 9:00.
Glad to hear of other low-carb rvers! Sue

Hi Tulsagram
Did you have a nice trip down? We are leaving for Virginia today, have to load the truck and we'll be on our way. Our 5th wheeler is in Indianna where there were some repairs to be done. We pick it up on the 25th and are on our way to Texas. I read in your journal about some 15 min recipes, where did you find them? I don't cook at lunch time but try to prepare something the night before that we can eat, when we are in warmer weather that is. When we are in cold weather, we try to stop at the Flying J, they have the most wonderful outrageous oumlette. It usually serves the two of us. In Texas, hope there are places to get lo carb things, which I'm happy about. My DH loves his desserts so try to have something made so he isn't tempted to run to the store for something 'bad'.
Have a safe trip Tulsagram, will check in when we can.

Hi-
I stumbled upon this thread and even though it's a little old, I thought I would stop by and say "hi".
I'm 52, going through menopause and need to loose about 15-20 pounds.
We love to camp and have a "vintage" MH - we redid the inside of it and repainted the outside. We absolutely love it - so nice to not have a backache when you get up in the morning and to have a potty to go to when it's raining!
We've got quite a few years left before we can retire, but it is our desire and dream to incorporate as much camping as we can!!
Hope all are doing well on the LC WOE!

Just found this thread and decided to post!
We started out in tents, camping all over New England. Graduated to a fiberglass "egg" Casita 17' trailer and went snowbirding in Florida. Traveled all over and finally went home to Maine. But we had contracted "hitch itch" wicked bad, so we sold the house and gave away everything a lived in a 35' Open Road fifth wheel pulled by a GMC 1-ton dually. Loved full-timing, but decided to buy a house in Florida (something I SWORE I would never do) and settled down in it this February. Promptly got really BORED so we bought a little Class B+ motorhome last month and are enjoying getting out and about again!
We travel with a Yorkie (really a Miniature Wirehaired Rottweiller) who has grown up in campgrounds and loves traveling.
We're both retired, both overweight, but trying to lose some......
Hope others will post here.....
Cheers!

Hi
I've been a member here for some time. Haven't done a post in a long time. I mostly come by and read and check on some of the folks I like to hear about. We have a 72 Vega, it's a darling camper. It has the seventies colors, orange, yellow and avocado, with shag orange-red carpet. We went to a blue grass festival with it a couple of weeks ago. Had a great time. We have looked for a fifth wheel we could afford for about three years and finally found one, 1995 Jayco, with a super slide. It is so pretty and the slide makes it seem so much bigger. We haven't got to go anywhere in it yet. DH had to make a trip to Ohio. He will be gone for about two weeks. Maybe when he gets back we can go on a little trip. As for the LC, I really felt good on that way of eating, but fell off the wagon. I have gained the weight back. Can't seem to get back to eating what I know I should. My difficulty with LC came when go so much and visit lots of family and friends. They want to feed you, I got tired of putting them out, always hearing, "Oh my goodness what can you eat?" I don't know if I have anything to fix. Or, they have it all prepared and find out you can't have most of what they fixed, and it seem to make them feel bad. So I just told DH that when we are traveling and visiting I'm not saying a word about eating, I will be gracious and eat what people have worked to fix. That would be fine if I could then go back to LC when we got home but it hasn't worked for me. I don't seem to be able to get back on board.
Anyway I was on here and saw your camping post and that does interest me I looks camping. Thanks for posting and sparking my interest. Bookiebell

 Hi ladies. Allen and I have been retired,he for 6 years and I for 2. We donot fulltime but do go away for the winters. The first in Florida and the second in the Rio Grande Valley and this one will be back in the Valley. We love it down there.
We camp in a 36 foot Cedar Creek fifth wheel, 2006. We have three slides and just love it. It truly is our home away from home.
Have not camped a whole lot this summer but are planning a week trip to Ohio in July. We will be staying with friends we have made being away for the winter. They want us to just come to thier home. They have several things planned for our stay and I am looking forward to it very much.
Have a great day ladies. :rose:

Hi Wendy,
We took a trip out West in our 72 Vega, went all the way from GA to Las Vegas, stoped many places of interest along the way. It was a great trip. Our gold if we liked camping, was to find a place South for a few months so DH could wind surf, that is his passion. Also maybe go a few months in the summer to Ohio, nice lakes there to wind surf, he also has family there. So far we haven't accomplished this gold. We are still working on it tho. I would like to know about the Rio Grande Valley. We thought about Corpus Christie, TX. It's quite a ways to get there, but DH says they always have good wind. Something you need to wind surf. We now have a 30 ft. with super slide Jayco Eagle 1995. We can't wait to get her on the road. Sylvia

Yay! Hi Wendy and Sylvia! We'll get this thread up and running!
Our last trip in "Kit" (short for "evacuation kit") was over to the east coast of Florida to watch the Atlantis space shuttle go up. I had never seen it live, just on TV. And I was quite ho-hum about it, but when it lit up and took off, I was awestruck! Burst right into tears, I did. What a glorious experience. We are going to head over there again for another space shot next week.
Found a wonderful little county park, Manatee Hammock Park, in Titusville, to stay and to watch the launch. VERY nice park with shady sites, a big fishing pier, and really friendly staff. I think it was around $24 a night, taxes included. Full hook-ups. They have monthly and seasonal sites there, too.
After a few days there we went up to Anastasia State Park, which is really nice! Gorgeous beach and lovely shaded, very private campsites. However, I am handicapped and confined to a wheelchair/scooter and really couldn't access the beach area. Very disappointed. Missed being "on" the water as the campsites are in loops away from the beach.
We'll keep ya posted on our travels!
Hugs to new friends,
Mary Ellen

Good morning Mary Ellen and Sylvia. Isn't camping grand, look at all the places that are a million miles from nowhere and so lovely.
Our camper is still in the shop getting the super slide fixed. I hope it isn't anything too bad. Have not heard from them yet and will not bother them until after tomorrow.
It is windy in south Texas, really anywhere in Texas. We love the Valley, the people, the places to go and the fact that we can go into Mexico. Where we stay it is 7 miles from Mexico if you could just go down the road our resort is on. As it is only a 17 mile drive and we have such fun.
You two have a great day,
Linda

The Valley sounds great, when DH gets home I'm going to tell him about the place. I would be so thrilled to make a trip down there. How much are the sites? Thanks for telling us about The Rio Grande Valley.
I have to go into town today, I have a whisker plucking appt. at 12:30. Isn't getting older fun,? you don't have hair where you should and it starts growing where it shouldn't. Also my car should be diagnoised sometime today. The Air Conditioner went out Sunday on the way home from Lake Tansi, TN. Have a good day camping buddies. Talk to you later. Sylvia
PS---Thanks also Ellen about the FL. information. I would love to see the Shuttle Launch. The camp grounds sound nice too.

Not sure what they would be this time of the year. In the winter we paid 373 a month plus electric. On the computer I find some that have daily and weekly rates. You would like it.
Still no word on our camper, so will have to call them.

If we went it would be in the winter months. We like to go farther North in the Summers. Trying to escape the heat. To bad you haven't heard about your Camper. I haven't heard about my car either. They did say yesterday that it wasn't a fuse or the freeon, and at that point they were still trying to find out what was wrong. Sylvia

Someone on our Cedar Creek club forum said that the sounds it is making should not be. I hope Cedar Creek does not take forever to decide just what is going on. I would like to camp some this summer and definitely have it for the winter.
Did 50 minutes in the pool again today and it always makes me feel so good.
Hope you hear about your car soon too, definitely need that.

I got my car back today. It only cost me 760.00. Had to have a new air compressor and dryer. I could cry!! I was rat holeing that money for some house repairs. I have a 2002 Kia Van, in the last few months I have had to put in a new sensor that tells it when to change gears, 300.00. A new alternator 432.00 and now this. Wonder if I need to trade this off? Maybe it will be okay for a while, I hope. My mechanic said, I should get a Honda or Toyota. They don't have as many repairs as the Kia. I just got this one paid off and don't want anymore payments. Darn it. That's the way the cookie crumbles. Hope you get your camper soon. Time is flying. sylvia
PS. I have to get back to the pool. I was going three days a week, and it does make you feel better. I have gotten lazy and finding to many excuses to stay home on my fannie.

We are also RV's and will be on our way to AZ soon. Low carb is easy in an RV. Doesn't take up much room, shop every couple days because everything we eat is fresh. (not frozen, canned or processed) Travel safely. PaulLyn

Came here earlier and wrote a message, I was trying to put on some smilies and lost the whole post. I love to camp, we bought a fifth wheel with a super slide and can't wait to take a trip. We still have our 23 ft Vega 1972, it is my baby, love that little old retro camper. It is still in fine shape just a little two small if you go somewhere to stay awhile. Happy camping to you all. Notice I didn't try the smilies, didn't want to do this again.lol

Haven't been on here in ages! We've been to two more space shuttle launches -- Challenger and Discovery -- since my last post!
We've managed to take a trip somewhere every month since we bought our little camper last May. Up to the top of Mt. Cheaha in Alabama to escape the heat. Then a trip to Kentucky to visit my daughter and grandaughter.
We love the Army Corps of Engineers parks, partcularly the ones in Georgia. This summer we were so sad to see how the water is virtually disappearing in the lakes in the Southeast. The drought is awful, as is the heat. Global warming is frightening and we are trying to live an ever more green lifestyle.
This is the first time we have spent the summer in Florida. It ain't the heat....it's the HUMIDITY! Yucky.
The Snowbirds are drifting back! We did it for four years. Now, as residents of The Land of the Newlywed and Nearly Dead, we are noticing the increase in traffic this fall......
Come on down! I promise you won't miss the snow!
Hugs to all my camping friends,
Mary Ellen

Hi Mary Ellen, glad to hear you are getting to camp. We got the fifth wheel but haven't got to take it out. Gas is so high, we have a diesel truck and it was 3.02 today. You are right about the Army Corps of Eng. parks they are so nice. When we took our trip out West we tried to stay with them. We have of Golden Pass, so we get a discount. We did take a trip in our little old trailer to South Ga. to a bluegrass Festival. We had a great time. I like people that camp, most are so friendly. Sylvia

You lucky dog, going to the Keys. That's where I would like to camp. How did you find a place to stay? Most everything gets booked up fast for the winter season. You must have planned ahead. We would also like to go to S. Texas. Maybe some day we'll hitch up and take off. Have fun. Sylvia

We are staying at the KOA down there. We had to book the reservations about 6 months ago.......can't wait. I was almost going to do some traveling nursing in Texas, but chickened out. Things just didn't fall in line for this.
we have been blessed with the ability to travel and not work for at least till we run out of money lol.

Goooooooood mornin! It's a lovely day in Florida!
I watched three beautiful deer tiptoe across my lawn in the early morning. Now the turkey herd (3 to 18 at any given time, about 10 today) is strutting around the neighborhood while an Anhinga is drying his wings on the pond in my back yard. We back up on a huge nature and wildlife preserve and there is always wildlife to see at any given moment. The Sandhill Cranes are back. Noisy but beautiful. There are lots of foxes, some black bears (don't see them much), an occaisional gator, and my favorites, the playful river otters who roll around on my lawn in the spring!
I am going to try to put my bird feeders out today.....and out of the way of the deer, who like to empty them at night. When we were full-timing, I always had my feeders up wherever we camped. The most fun was putting out a larg terra cotta dish, the kind you put under a pot, and filling it with water for a bird bath. I couldn't believe how many birds I had bathing in it! It was the "Swimmin' Hole" for the park one winter.
We spent four winters at Rock Crusher RV Park in Crystal River, FL, about 75 miles north of Tampa on the west coast. Love that park. It has been sold this year to Elite Resorts, and I hope it will stay as nice. Getting tough to find a winter site these days. More and more parks want you to buy a lot and the prices are really high.......sigh.......
We visited/camped with some full-timing friends last week and Don really misses full-timing....me too....but the house is nice to come home to.......
Have fun out there!
Hugs,
Mary Ellen

Bookiebell hope you are well on your way to a wonderful winter. We will be home this year as my MIL needs us. She came here from Oregon state for a visit, had a bad heart attack and is now in hospice in the nursing home. We just could not go away this year with the situation as it is now. She is so far from home and will not be able to every go home.
If things are right we might go to our sons in NC for March and April or April and May. They have a beach home in Manteo and we would stay there.
Have a good day,
Linda

Wendy I'm very sorry to hear about your MIL, sad things happen in this life. Thank goodness the good out weigh them. Camping can be put on hold for a time. She is a blessed person to have a loving family. I don't know if we will get to go any where this winter. I just got back from Savannah, Ga., we went to the Lady and 2 Sons Restr., started by Paula Dean. We had a good time. Savannah is a beautiful & charming place. I did notice some pretty RV campgrounds. I would like to go there and camp for a week. You need time to absorb all the history.

I was just talking to my husband about us buying a rv or some sort of camper and travel some. we are retired now and I have always wanted to do that.
But gas is so high now I really don't see if we can afford it now.
But it sure sounds nice to me.
