Sorry to be such a stupe.. but I was following links from
Elzi's page and it took me to Hoeberl's page. At one point
someone mentioned he was natural.. but those big balloon arms
just look ridiculously unnatural to my untrained eyes.
http://hoback.ncsa.uiuc.edu/~prajlich/manfred/
Is he a product of serendipitous genetics or enhancement
drugs?
If the former, maybe I can be a little less "judgemental" of
titanic guys. Mebbe they can get huge with genetics and hard
work alone.
If the latter, mebbe I'll become a little less naive. =P

I don't know if Manfred is "clean" or not. I suppose no one
but he himself knows that for sure. On the other hand he has
been pushing for mandatory drug testing in strongman contests,
which may say something.

Freaky. Those aren't arms, they're forelegs.

Yes, I've heard the same.
I don't know if he has been legitimately free from chemical
enhancement. I do, however, suspect that his genetics are a
large contributor. If you look at the rest of his body, his
arms are disproportionately large. Also, after his accident,
he was not able to train for a length of time. His arms lost
only a small amount of mass. They were still abnormally large
after a long time of detraining.
That is why I commented that I would really (and seriously)
like to obtain muscle biopsies for analysis. And don't think
I'm kidding; I'm not.

I saw him live at some promo-event in a club, acouple of years
ago. He performed some small stunts and generally entertained
the crowd. One stunt involved him picking a (rather petite)
girl and using her as a weight for overhead triceps
extensions. Quite amazing.
He did not look like the typical stereoid monster to me. Just
a quite tall, very athletic guy. Well, except for those
freakin' huge arms - they really looked like something out of
this world.

Whether they were natural or not, his arms certainly worked.
I saw him in numerous strongman contests and he was
ridiculously strong, especially his arms. If not for his auto
accident he would have been strongly favoured for the World's
Strongest Man title on his next attempt. He got better each
time he took part.

We could never rely upon OPEC again if we could drill his arms
and than Valentino asshole's arms! :-)
