I'm watching "CNN Presents" and their subject tonight is how to achieve & maintain permanent weight loss.

They say there are "7 rules of highly effective dieters", including "Eat a high-carbohydrate, low fat diet". They mentioned Atkins as a "fad" diet a couple of times.

The show is basically revolving around two people they've chosen as models of how to successfully maintain weight loss. The woman, who apparently lives in leotards, eats a high-carb, low-fat diet, runs seven days a weeks, weight trains every other day, and is now an AEROBICS INSTRUCTOR. The man they're spotlighting is now a marathon runner & does 80 push-ups daily.

The message that's coming across to me is that weight loss is impossible to maintain on a high carb, low fat regimen without massive quantities of exercise.

Is anyone else seeing this and getting P.O.'d??

That's what it sounds like to me from your post! I don't have TV so can't see the show. I think one day these people will get a clue.

That's probably not the message they meant to convey, but The Truth Will Out, oh yes it will. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

That is not a message, it is fact...LF Proponents commoly like to point to certain Asian and European countries to explain why LF/HC is the proper diet for good health. The almost always omit the fact, that those folks tend to get large amounts of physical activity on a daily basis...Now, physical activity is decreasing in those places and obesity is rising. Instead of realizing that the exercise only masked the ill effects of horrible diet, the LFers are attempting to pin the blame on an irrelevant or possibly even nonexistant change in dietary habits: increased consumption of fat.

I think you missed a crucial element Taborine. They showed these two examples and then admitted that they were far far from typical. So what about the rest of us they asked ? Never fear was the answer, they are working on some pills to take care of the problem.

So we can all rest easy now. Soon they will have a pill that allows you to eat all the junk food and pepsi we want and we will be still skim. Unhealthy, out of shape, arteries clogged and diabetic....but hey we will look good in a bikini !!

I'm all for exercise. But really, how many people have time for more than 20 minutes a day, or even every other day? That's a big boost to your health, but it's not enough if you aren't eating right.
Not to mention now getting enough protein...for the first time in a long time, I think I'm eating enough, and it shows.
