I am worried. I have been on the induction for 9 days now. I haven't eaten anything that isn't in the diet, yet I am still not in ketosis. What am I doing wrong? I have been cycling regularly, am full of energy and feel a lot better, but I am concerned that things are not happening yet. has anyone been like this and managed to get it going? Can anyone help me?

Hi Anne,

Welcome to the forum!

Now take a deep breath, and relax. You're almost certainly not doing anything wrong at all. Some people just use all their ketones as fuel. In fact, many successful losers never show anything on the ^%$& ketostix. ;)

If you go to Low Carb Tips on the orange bar at the top of the screen, you'll find an article called Ketosis and Ketone Test Strips that will explain more.

Have you measured yourself since you started? Many people find they don't lose any pounds at first, but they do lose inches. This is because they gain some muscle, while losing fat. :) And muscle weighs more than fat, making you slimmer while weighing the same.

All the best!

Hello, don't get discouraged. It took me over a week to get into Ketosis. I noticed I was never in it in the morning. I was obsessed with checking to see if I was in it or not. I finally started checking in the late afternoon and it happened. It seems once I got into Ketosis it was easy to stay in it. I now check thoughout the day and depending what you have eaten will depend on your level. I also didn't lose any weight until 2 weeks. It was only a couple pounds but I was happy to see some results. I have lost 4 lbs in 3 weeks now and have lost 6 inches. I suggest measuring. It sure helped me not to get discouraged. I am not going to watch the scale as much knowing I lost inches. Good Luck :)

I have never ever been in ketosis- and Lord knows I tried! I lost little weight in induction ( like 3 lbs) , but it cured my carb cravings, and after induction I averaged 1.5 lbs per week- and still no ketosis! Ketosis- it's not for everyone, I guess!

If you're sticking to Induction, it's very likely that you are in lipolysis, whether or not ketones are showing up.

Hi,

If you a cycling every day then you would be replacing fat with muscle so you probably won't see the scale move to quickly. Never mind the scales or the ketostix, trust the tape measure & the way your clothes are fitting. Also, you don't have alot of weight to loose so it will also be slower coming off. The more you have to loose the faster it happens. Remember it took time to put the weight on & it will take some time to take it off.

If you haven't already started using fitday then you should start. www.fitday.com It's easy to go over your carb allowance if you don't track what you eat. After a while you will have a good handle on what you are eating.

Don't get discouraged, hang in there it will happen for you. Good luck.

This thread explains ketotis much better. I lost it due to drinking a glass of chocolate milk. It hasn't come back but my water intake is huge and I have been working out more than ever before. I do find it strange that one day the scale shows that I lost eleven pounds and today it seems that I gained it back while only eating fish, meat, eggs and a small salad. I have know friends who have tried this diet and quit. In fact this is my third time and I have lost more in two weeks than the other two attempts. thanks for the help.

Yea it doesn't take much to knock yourself out of Ketosis. Once your out of Ketosis it seems to take a week to get back in. At least for me anyway. For a while I was pretty hung up on being in Ketosis but in the end the inches is what makes the difference.
