I've been reading on the atkins website today about acceptable foods during induction and find it difficult because some of the vegetables I've never herd of. Can anyone help me with an induction plan that is aussie friendly?
Also how much is an ounce(1 tablespoon?more?)
and what drinks are sweetned with splenda?
I want to get prepared before I start and find it too hard because I have nothing to eat.
Thank
Jobody

Which vegetables haven't you heard of? I find no real difficulty with the vegies. There are plenty in the list that I like and that are available here. :)
If you have a look in my "sticky" at the top of this forum, you'll see a link to a conversion chart that will help you with ounces etc. A fluid ounce is about 30 mL, weight wise, an ounce is approximately 30 grams.
Do have a good look through this forum, Jobody. You'll find all sorts of local info, including various Splenda sweetened drinks. I can only think of Golden Circle off the top of my head, but I know I've seen others mentioned here.
Cheers.

torquay de-lite is one, and reef, they are both made by the same company, i have found them in my local safeway and coles (northcote and preston). i don't think they are sweetened with splenda but what's used is ok. lots of vegies are fine, but here are some faves of mine:
lettuce, zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli, mushies, celery, cabbage (many varieties) spinach, tomato (small quantities), eggplant, spring onion, onion (small quantities), grean beans. in fact i have planted all of those in my garden to save some $$$. you can do a lot with all of them and they are all (except toms and onions) low carb enough to not really worry about eating too much in one go.

Veges shouldnt cause you to much grief - I eat heaps of different types of veges. At the moment its asparagus cos its in season, but most nights I eat the meat & 3 veg - with the veg being cauliflower, broccoli, savoy cabbage, carrots - not to many, tomato - not to much, pumpkin - not to much, squash, zuchinni etc.
To help me I weigh all my veggies until I get a feel for how much is allowed, and then check myself out occassionally to stop me from overestimating :nono: :wiggle: .

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I found on the atkins site that not many vegies are mentioned but I have just got the book and it gives you more choices than on the website. In the past I have been drinking diet sprite which has aspartame in it. I wasn't real sure if it was a good choice but now I know it isn't. I would love to drink just water all the time but when you have a meal you really need somthing to drink with taste. I,m also going to stop drinking wine.I like the sweet, fruity wines but they must contain heaps of sugar because I have never carried much weight until I started drinking wine with meals or on weekends.

Some people can get away with wine, some cant. I cant   . It makes me retain fluid and seems to stall me. Also, your body will use the alcohol as a source of energy in preferance to your body fat, so it does interfere with weight loss.
If you are going to drink wine, some have less carbs than others. I think red wines are best, and dry whites are OK too, but thats just going from my dodgey memory :wiggle:  .

Hi Jaddles,
I got hooked on wine while watching reality TV programs like THE BLOCK (V.BAD).
The Atkins book I got from the library was the wrong one(it was for the next stage)so it didn't have much on induction so I have to wait for it to come in.Have you heard of Donna Astons books. She also has a really good plan so I,ll compare the two and see what I come up with.

Seems I dont practice what I preach - had two glasses of a nice Grenach Shiraz on Saturday night, and I'm still fighting fluid retention  .
I have one of Donna Astons books, I seem to remember that she advocates fitness first, diet second. She recommends low carb, although I cant remember much else
