I am new to this forum but I was so excited to see that I wasn't alone with PCOS. I have had it forever it seems like but I wasn't diagnosed until 3 years ago. I have 2 miracle babies since they told me I would never be able to have children. They are 8 and 10. Nothing since then but I sure am happy for the 2 I have. My question is this. I was put on 200 mg. of spironolactone. Everyone is talking about Metformin. What is that? Is it the same thing? I would really appreciate some information on this. Thanks.

Hi,
Below are some links to info about the two different drugs.
I'm not familiar with spironolactone, but it appears to bring down testosterone levels.
Metformin (glucophage) is used to treat insuline resistance. It can also cause ovulation in some women (not me). However, I feel great on metformin.
spironolactone information (http://www.searlehealthnet.com/pi/aldactone/aldactone.html)
metformin (glucophage) information (http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/diabetes/summary/metform/metform.htm)

Thank you for the sites!!! Ovulation doesn't occur for me either. Even those silly fertility drugs. I feel alot better on the spironolactone. My husband can sure tell when I forget to take my medicine. LOL Thanks Again!
