Welcome! Below is a bit of information about Protein Power for those who are unfamiliar with it. We welcome people with questions about the WOE or who are considering the WOE, but not sure, to join in our discussion on this thread.
The Protein Power plan was devised by the husband-and-wife team of Dr. Michael Eades and Dr. Mary Dan Eades. They advocate an adequate protein/moderate fat/lower carb regimen in which you first determine your minimum protein requirement. Each day, you strive to eat at least this much protein, and between 30 and 55 grams of ECC (carbs minus fiber) to start. You spread your protein and carbs fairly equally throughout the day to avoid insulin spikes.
Though ketosis is not necessary for weight loss, neither is it discouraged. Some people enjoy the loss of appetite that ketosis brings. Others avoid ketosis and the accompanying loss of appetite because they find they don't get in the required amount of protein, and weight loss slows.
For detailed information on the plan, read the Eades' first two books, "Protein Power" and "Protein Power Lifeplan."
Our daily inspiration:
"Today I will make good choices. I will eat only those foods that are healthy for me. I will do something physical, even if it's only to walk around the block or pick up a room or do the laundry. I will concern myself only with today. I can't do anything about yesterday, and tomorrow is too far away. I can and will influence today. Today I will give as much support, encouragement, and love to myself as I do to others."

Good morning! Thanks for the pics for the avatar and profile. The pics (especially the "before" shot) are pretty grainy. On the post where Karen welcomed us, her pic is crystal clear. Maybe I should ask how she did it it. Regardless, thanks so much for doing this.
How are you feeling this morning? You better not be overdoing it! :nono:
Actually, I only have a minute here. DH is coming home today and I have to clean the house and do the grocery shopping. I've really let the place go for the past couple weeks because of the painting. Almost everything that had been in the dining room is now in other rooms, but today I can start moving everything back in and get the place back to normal.
Have a great day, everyone! I'll check back later.

Good morning everyone. I'm sleeping terribly lately. I've been waking up ~5 times per night for no reason. So I just decided to stay up at 6:30. I'm down to 155 today, which means officially 1 inch down from last week. I'm going to try for one more pound this coming week, and then I am going to relax a bit and just try to maintain through Thanksgiving. My body's been through a lot in the last month, since a month ago at the doctor I weighed 166!
Elaine-Don't get discouraged about the apparent gain. Like was said earlier, there's no way that the 3 lbs was fat, so it must be water from something you ate. Was it just the choices you ate that were different (oatmeal and apples) or the quantities of food? Sometimes I think we assume it's the kind of food, but in reality we were consuming an extra 200 calories per day or something on top of what we normally ate. Just trying to help you think of all possibilities. Hang in there, and let us know when it comes back off.
Grady-We seem to be in sync with each other losing right now at about the same pace. I, too, am becoming rather fond of the protein day. Although I am not really hungry on it, it does really tire out my body and I always get the worst night sleep following it. It's probably a good thing I've been doing it on Fridays at the end of the week where I am not required to be totally alert the next day.

Morning BawdyWench
I'm not over-doing... though I have been trying - without success  - to talk DH into some light hiking. I'm bored beyond all reason. We will be going for a drive and maybe some light walking - in cell range and within ten miles of a hospital as the doc has ordered. I also have to stay within 25 miles of the hospital this $%#~ monitor thingy for my heart is being monitored by.
BTW, an open MRI is one where the 'scanner' is mounted on a moveable arm - conventional MRI's slide you into a large tube on a gurney-type platform. Either way, they are very loud and you have to be still for a long time. I doubt I could be still in an enclosed tube give the claustrophobia I have left over from my unfortunate experience.

Good morning everyone.
Wendy, thanks for the words. I'm wondering about the extra cals too since I am counting points and not cals. There were a few days I didn't use Fitday, so that ciould definitely been a factor. Sorry to hear you are not sleeping well right now, it's the stress. :there:
Orang, don't overdo but enjoy whatever you can do. Can they mildly sedate you to take an MRI? I had to have one when I herniated a disk years ago. I was in such pain it took 3 Vicodin just to get me to lay still enough. But I hear you about the enclosed space, etc.Your issues are certainly valid.
Hi Bawdy and everyone else, will pop in later.

Wendy, sorry about the sleep thing. As you know, I went through that for months and months (years, actually). What has really helped was getting LESS sleep. Don't be in bed longer than about 7 hours for 3 or 4 nights in a row and see if that helps.
Also, since cutting way back on carbs/calories this month (and losing 10 pounds, just like you!), I find I really have to remember to take my potassium. If I miss a day, my right calf especially gets very jumpy at night. If I then get up and take 2 tablets, within a half hour it's quieted down and I can sleep. I try to take 1 potassium in the AM and two in the PM. I'm also taking 1 magnesium tab both morning and night to help things move along, so to speak. Works well when I remember to take it every day.

Rob, thanks for the reminder on the pond scum. I finally threw it away the other day after having it collect dust in my pantry for months. I opt for the Carb Solutions vanilla shake mix. I also have some "Natural Whey" mix, but haven't really used it much. Guess I'm getting lazy in my old age. With the natural whey stuff, I have to add flavoring plus sweetener. That's two extra steps!
WAIT! Can I count that as my exercise for the day?
Did ya notice? I'm up to three eggs now! I can't wait til I rate a drumstick!

I'm here :) I tend to post rather late a lot of times, with work and all.
Today went well....though I did indulge maybe a tad much on candy. I told DH to get it out of my sight!! I am taking a bunch to work on Monday.'
I have been looking in my LC cookbook (the one by Carpender) for some good breakfast/egg recipes for tommorrow. Found some good ones too :)
I hope you all had a good day!

Hiya old friends! Thanks for the invitation.
My life is finally starting to settle down a bit, after months of frantic getting-ready-to-move. I'm now living in Utah, surrounded by all the boxes I spent those months packing up. I'm also gazing out the window at my first snowfall since I was 9 years old.
My eating habits during the past few months have been marginal at best, between trying to eat up all the food I couldn't pack along and eating out for every meal for a few weeks while the kitchen equipment was packed, in transit, and sitting here in boxes. I'm gradually getting back on track now; I truly cooked for the first time today, making an old, family crock-pot recipe for vegetable beef soup (and replacing the potatoes with cauliflower).
My most major complaint about Utah so far is not the snow. It's the complete absence of Diet Rite on grocery store shelves. Every store I've asked has claimed that no distributor in the area carries it. So far the only place I have found it was at an air force base comissary, and I can only shop there once a month.
I don't know yet how much I'll be participating in these forums, but I figured I'd drop in and wave hello.

As I read through these posts, I think that I do my Atkins diet similar to PP. In-as-much as I spread, or at least try, to spread my carbs out evenly throughout the day. I eat between 7-10 grams of carbs per meal. I eat 3 time a day and I might have a protein snack in between depending on the day's activity.
Just wanted to share,
Black57
