I just got back from a great butt (and leg) workout and wanted to share it for people who are bored or want to change things up a little..

Go outside and find a not very steep incline. Bring a heavy backpack and a skipping rope.
-Skip for 60 seconds
-Do walking lunges up the incline (in my case I could only do 12 because of the weight in my backpack)
-put down the backpack and do 20 more lunges up the hill

repeat sequence 5-10 times depending on fitness level.
You can do sprints or other things besides skipping, but I chose to skip.

I just started doing the walking lunges on top of my routine, and I love them...they get pretty intense. They are a great idea Meg, and I definitely want to try the backpack.

do regular lunges work as well for the butt? and how many should you do anyways?

Regular lunges do work the glutes.

I usually have people start with 2 sets of 8 for each leg and add more reps as the exercise becomes easy.

When 2 or 3 sets of 12 gets easy, add some weight (dumbbells or Meg's backpack).

I added in lunges to my walking program months ago. I had read about it a magazine as a way to tone up the butt. It has really done a lot for my butt. (or so I'm told :-) I've not done it with a back pack however....
