Hi Everybody!

I am new to this forum (just joined today). What a great source of
information.
I have been doing Atkins for 1 week. I am down 6.5 lbs already, so I'm happy about that!
My question is, The Atkins Advantage bars say on the front of the package that they have 2 grams of net carbs per bar. On the back in the nutritional info it says 21 carbs but 10 g of fiber yada yada. I want to have one really bad but since my limit right now is only 20 carbs per day, I'm not sure the 2g of net carbs is what I can go by. I don't want to have one if the actual carbs are 21g. I guess I need to read up on the meaning of "net carbs", especially how it works during the first 2 weeks.
:daze:
Any thoughts or words of wisdom?
Thanks!!

Hi Sweetleaf, welcome!

The "missing" carbs are sugar alcohols. Dr Atkins says that sugar alcohols do not cause an insulin reaction, but unfortunately, many folk do indeed find that their weight loss stops when they eat them. :( You'll find a lot more information about sugar alcohols in Low Carb Tips on the orange bar at the top of the screen.

If you go back to your book, you'll see that Dr A in fact suggests only using them for "emergencies" during Induction. My advice would be to try to use "real food" as much as possible.

Cheers, and well done on the first 6½ pounds!

I'd stay away from them. Personally, I don't think they are that tasty, but they do ignite the old sweet tooth sometimes. Why play with fire?

Hi Sweetleaf....

I too joined yesterday and was wondering about the Low Carb Bars. I just spent about $70 on Atkins bars, vitamins and low-carb syrups for my induction.....

I just read your post and followed the link that was suggested about the tips. Well, apparently, we can't use these things in induction...... It's ashamed cause I've found some that are really good!!!!! I did not notice that they threw me out of ketosis though. Although, if you do use them, I would mind how many servings per day I use. They have some adverse effects on the gastrnomical system.......

Good luck - looks like we are both starting around the same point!!!
