Hello everyone. I am new to this board, but have been on Atkins for three months now and have lost 30lbs. My question is about sunflower kernels. I went shopping for them and various brands had different carb abounts per serving. The ones I purchased said 5Total Carbs, 3 Dietary Fiber; for n Net Carb count of 2 per serving. This seems great to me and I had three servings. Have any of you used sunflower kernals and did they in any way interfere with your OWL? Any comments or suggestions. Thanks,

Funny you should ask, my brother just asked me that same question this morning (because that's his favorite snack while watching the world series)
Larry King had Dr. Phil on the other night and sunflower seeds (unsalted, with shells) he said burned more calories to open the shell than what the calorie content was....So I'm going to buy them next shopping trip.
My brother is in a stall for over 6 weeks (been LC'ing since July) and that is why he was asking too....
Would like to here from others who eat seeds w/shells...

I have trouble with nuts and trail mix - they disappear quickly :P
I have had good luck, er - discipline - , with sunflower (2g) and pumpkin (3g) seeds. I use them in salads and soups or have them on their own for snacks. They are also low on the glycemic index, so should be no problem except for people with the highest weight loss resistance.
Shells don't stop me for long. Just ask any pistachio.

I too use them on salads and other stuff. They do not seem to stall me.

I use them, but sparingly. My max intake would be about 1 tablespoon of shelled seeds per day. If I do use that amount for a snack, I measure them out into a very small bowl, then proceed to eat them two or three at a time. (I am a reformed nut-a-holic! LOL)
I haven't noticed that they've slowed down my progress any, and the fiber REALLY, REALLY helps, as does the fiber in almonds. I think almonds, eaten in moderation, can be a low-carber's best friend. ;) I like the raw ones best.
