Just wondered if any have tried Protien Power and what results they had with it. I was reading a success story and found one where PP was used and she had very good weight loss with it. I have also heard of others using it but nothing else. Opinions?? :help:

I've read all of the Protein Power book and I'm half way through the latest version Protein Power Life plan. They are great books. Once you are out of the Atkins induction the plans are almost the same. The protein power starts you off at 30 carbs instead of 20. And some people who do not need to loose much start out at 55 carbs per day.
For me the Atkins books is what got me motivated to try this WOL. But the protein power book is what really thought me why this works. They go into far more detail explaining everything. For me understanding the science makes it possible for me to answer my own question all the time. One of the key differences is that the protein power book has a formula that helps you to figure out exactly how much protein you should eat with each meal. As it turns out I was already doing it. So most of us who are following Atkins are also following Protein Power guidelines as well. We just didn't know it.
I always encourage people to read both books to give you a good foundation for this Low Carb Life style.

Howdy!

Protein Power success story here! :sunny: I haven't put a success story on this forum yet, but it's at my website. Click the http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/home.gif icon below to see it. I *will* get around to typing one up for the forum eventually. ;)

If you're on Atkins, you may as well stay on it, because after induction, they're virtually the same. However: I highly recommend reading Protein Power Lifeplan. It's an excellent book. It discusses a lot of health issues related to diet. It'll make you angry at the mainstream media.

I have been losing slowly, but steadily on PP since May - started at 192 and am now 177. I can lose faster using a low fat version of LC WOE, but I feel lousy ( no energy or stamina).

As for the shakes - I only use those when traveling or life is really hectic. I don't use any special LC foods except a LC bread (Natures Own Wheat & Fiber) and sugar-free jam. All of my foods are things I can buy at most any grocery store. I get the EAS shake mix or pre-mixed at Walmart.

Many people enjoy the variety LC products can add to your diet. If they don't casue problems - digestive or with weight loss - I see no reason for people not to use them.

I do use protein shakes if need be. It is a good way for me to get breakfast in, as I am a terrible breakfast eater. Some vanilla PP, some berries, and off I go :)

I am on Atkins but I am reading Protein Power and I am really enjoying it. It sheds more light on the subject of the low carb diet as the diet for hypoglycemics, diabetics, high blood pressure. These are all dubbed as silent killers yet there are simple answers to to treating these disorders without medecine. I am excited to know that the cure for what ails me is a piece of steak!!!

Protein Power here, too. It's just more common sense than Atkins. With its recommendations of high fat (up to 65%), it's great for people with a lot of weight to lose, but as you get closer to goal, you really have to modify that. I'm down to around 45-50% fat now and losing well.

I drink a Carb Solutions shake (made from the mix) fortified with 1/4 cup half-and-half probably 4 or 5 times a week, usually as breakfast or sometimes as a snack if I have nothing else in the lunch I take to work. Also, since my appetite is so low right now, a lot of times at night I don't feel like eating dinner, but know I should. DH travels most every week, so I'm alone for dinner a lot. If he's not around, I can a lot of times do without dinner, which is also not good. So, if nothing else appeals to me, I'll make a shake.

For whatever reason, the shakes have never bothered me or caused a stall. I don't eat the bars often enough to make a difference, but a lot of people report stalling with them.

Kristine , they are virtually the same ,but you can have different fruit? I saw a thread where someone eats melon and grapes.
I will have to buy the book ,but this is interesting. I am going to read all the threads here. I have been a slow loser compared to some on Atkins.

And Bawdywench, lower fat? Maybe that's my problem . I make pizza on a tortilla and fry it in olive oil first .Just for more fat. Maybe if I cut some of the fat out it will work. I just keep in my head the high fat thing and try to incorporate it whereever I can.
I better just read more about it. lol Do you guys think it would help me to lose faster?
