My husband thinks I'm too thin :hyper: and I have to kind of agree. I am now 123 - so I think I need more animal protein. He said just what YOU said Dean - "you need to eat more FATTY animal protein and that will help with digestion!!" I laughed!
So anyway - here is what I am eating:
4 Eggwhites
4oz ground turkey meat
3 raw egg yolks
fresh vegetable juice
almond butter or raw nuts like cashews, pecan, almonds etc (1/2 cup)
1/2 apple
4 oz chicken/steak (leave all skin &/or fat on)
spinach salad (with any other veggies like zucchini etc)
mayonaisse (homemade if possible)
almond butter or nuts as shown above
1/2 apple
red meat meal (steak, ground meat etc - all fat left on)
salad (same as above) or steamed veggies
flaxseed oil or olive oil
fresh veggie juice (with dinner or before going to bed)
No breads, starches, sugar etc - just because I personally do not do well with these foods. I CAN have raw dairy like butter or yogurt - but not milk because of the sugars.
So this looks pretty Paleo to me - and I am looking forward to a big fat juicy piece of filet mignon at Outback Steakhouse - maybe this weekend - ha ha!!!
Just thought I'd pass this on in case anyone was interested!!! :wiggle:

Sunkist,
That sounds pretty paleo to me! :)
Are you able to get grass-fed meats?
The one thing I worried about with animal fat, is the horrible omega ratios of grain fed animals. Well, I hope you gain some weight! Remember to not count any calories... just eat! Fat (the kind that has good omega balance, usually from wild sources) cannot hurt you at all. It can only help you.

Hi Sunkist,
Listen to Dean...he knows his stuff!! your diet looks like exactly what i need to do. and the veggie juice will help keep my carbs up. i used to do a lot of green juices. like celery and kale and cucmber and parsley etc. and also wheatgrass. i'm curious what kind of juices do you drink? stillhave not gone raw on the yolks yet but i do think it about and one day i will try it!!! i think! and that's a husband you never get rid of....!!! :)

Thanks Guys!!
I got New Zealand filet at our friends health food grocery store the other night - is that grass fed? :yay:
And I juice all kinds of stuff - except like potatoes or stuff like that. My hubby brought home a whole flat of wheat grass - but we don't have that special wheat grass juicer - just your averaqe Juiceman style - so I don't think I can use it -
The grass only cost 4 dollars so I put it down on the ground for my little 7 pd pomeranian to play in. It's so funny to see. He just lays on the grass and then chews away. My Rottweiler came in and looked at him and then looked at me like "Now you've really gone overboard in the spoiling department - you brought the grass to HIM?" He just shook his head and walked away.
I'll keep you posted on how I feel :wiggle:

Hi Sunkist,
I have really enjoyed reading your posts. I think your new plan sounds very sensible and it sure seems Paleo to me.
I have been inspired by your example of eating raw egg yolks and I have started doing this myself. I have very dry skin and in the winter it becomes a problem for me. After eating raw egg yolks for only a few days I am starting to feel a difference already. I have friends from other forums asking me why I am eating yolks raw and what the benefit is compared to cooked. I realized that I didn't really have any information to share with them on this subject. Why are they better for you raw and why not eat the whites raw too? I'd so appreciate your helping me with this question.
Thank you!

Hi Miss Signey
Well I am really glad you are starting to notice a difference so soon!! Believe me if you eat about 2-3 raw egg yolks daily - you will be amazed at hpow it helps your skin, nails, hair etc.
As far as raw VS cooked - as I understand it -= lecithin is especially sensitive to high temperatures so when we cook egg yolks, the lecithin is damaged. Egg yolk is like the PERFECT food because it contains, fats, proteins, B-Vitamins, minerals and other nutrients - but these ALL can be altered by heating.
I personally am somewhat allergic to COOKED eggs, yet have absolutely no problem with raw egg yolks. I think the sulphur (mineral) also changes when heated and it gives me......gas
I do want to stress though hpw important it is that you know where your chicken eggs come from - in other words not just from a grocery store that SAYS they are from cage free chickens etc. It would really help if you could get a look at the place where the chickens live or at least talk with someone about it. I know it may be tought o do that but it's important to get eggs from chickens who are allowed to peck around free all day and then are only put into their coops at night (or during bad weather etc.)
The poor little chickens who are made to sit in those horrible cramped henhouses with artificial light and no ability to exercise or eat bugs and minerals form the earth - get shot up with antibiotics and fed with grains - they produce VERY inferior eggs!! I'm sure you guys ALL know that - but I just liek to re-iterate it so noone becomes ill from eating bad eggs etc!!
There have been studies done showing that RAW EGG WHITES have a substance called aviden that (when raw) binds to the Biotin in the yolks and makes it bio-UNavailable (VS. Bio-AVALIABLE) but of course as always there are counter-studies that show that raw egg yolk has more than enough biotin so the absorption rate evens out. Personally - although i could eat raw egg yolks all day long - I can't quite get past the taste or sliminess of raw egg WHITES.
I can use them in a smoothie though so sometimes I will do that - although right now I have cut back on raw fruit for awhile (since it's winter especially)
Anyway - I hope that answers your questions - let me know if you have any others and I'll try to answer them for you!!! :wiggle:

Hi Sunkist!
How's the animal fat consumption going? :yay:
I've got a question for ya!
In another post you mentioned about not mixing up the egg yolks, just eating them without breaking or stirring... something about the molecular structure getting messed up. Is this how you eat them? Are they easy to separate from the whites? And, if I ate say 3 or 4 egg yolks every morning, do you think that would be too much, too few? This weekend, I am getting about 6 dozen eggs from my friends out in the country who have a bunch of south american chickens. These eggs are the best I have ever seen (or tasted)! http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/smilies/yum.gif (http://forum.lowcarber.org/misc.php?do=getsmilies#) And, what is the effect on them if you hard boil them?... love hard boiled eggs in salad.
Thanks so much for your help. :)

Hello again!
Sunkist, thank you so much for your help with my questions. I will share this information with my friends.
I am very fortunate to have a friend close by who raises chickens for their eggs. They have a very nice coop that they can go to in the evening but are allowed to range free during the day. They also have the benefit of a rooster so that the hens are quite happy. The yolks from these eggs are a beautiful deep orange. The shells are nice and firm. They are very fresh and very delicious. You are quite right that I would not feel comfortable eating commercial eggs raw. I'm not entirely comfortable eating them at all. Agribusiness disgusts me.
Thank you again for your post. I so appreciate it. :)
Hugs!

Hi Dean & Signey,
Well I have heard alot of conflicting studies that say either you CAN damage the molecular structure of raw egg yolks by beating them and some that say you CAN'T. I'm really not sure unless I talk to someone who is an expert on cehmical & molecular structures. I could ask my sister 0 she has her PhD's in Microbiology & Epidemiology - she MIGHT know for sure!!
As far as cooking them goes - i LOVE deviled eggs - but thye don't always love me :wiggle:
But hey if you like them and you don't have any allergy problems - go for it!!!
But RAW is best as far as the nutritional content of the egg goes!!
I just had 3 raw egg yolks this morning and I might have 2-3 more later in the day. But 2-4 per day is good. I just love them. I like them with a little salt & pepper added - it makes it taste great.
Animal fats are going pretty good -I've been so busy so I have to be careful since lately I am not very hungry and I keep forgetting to eat my small meals - I just get sidetracked. This happens to me - ESPECIALLY if I am eating low sugar - then I have no hunger feelings at all.
But I don't want to lose any more weight - I don't want to be a string bean
It sounds like you both have good sources for your chicken eggs!!!
Take care!!!

Thanks, Sunkist! http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/smilies/daisy.gif (http://forum.lowcarber.org/misc.php?do=getsmilies#)
I did get the eggs from my friends' farm. And I just cracked two of them into a cup and sprinkled a bit of salt and pepper on them, and then (without disturbing them) drank them down. I didn't really taste anything (except the salt and pepper). The whites were slimy, yes... but it didn't bother me. I know I have read on other posts that the whites are not good to consume raw. Is this true? I have also heard that the yolks have like 99% of what is good for you. BUT, I thought the whites had all the protein (which is very good for you!). I know that body builders will eat like 6 egg whites (I don't know if they cook them or eat them raw?). But, it seems like they just eat the whites (and avoid the yolks... probably for fear of cholesterol or something... ?). I just figured, why not eat the whole egg and try to eat it in it's most original condition as possible (that is why I was careful not to disturb the yolk or anything).
Now, is this the best way to get the fullest nutrition from eggs? After all, that is what I am truly after!
BTW... this is the first time I have EVER eaten raw eggs! And... I broke one open and put it in a bowl for my cat. He LOVED it, and licked on it till it was all gone! http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/smilies/yum.gif (http://forum.lowcarber.org/misc.php?do=getsmilies#)
So... what does all this sound like? Am I close to doing this correctly? Any opinions, suggestions, info would be great!
I know how it is... getting busy and forgetting to eat! I do that all the time, and always gain body fat (lose muscle too) because of it!
Thanx, Sunkist. :wiggle:

Hi Dean
Well if you can eat the whites raw - more power to you!! It's a personal thing I think - and I have heard conflicting studies (as usual) as to whether or not it is good to consume the egg whites RAW because of the substance AVIDEN that tends to bind with the BIOTIN in the egg yolks and make it less potent. Sometimes what I'll do is separate the egg yolks from the whites, scramble up the whites, put them in a bowl and then drop in the raw egg yolks on top. I mean really this is almost like having the eggs sunny side up (which is how i always like my eggs anyway - that or soft boiled).
The yolk also contains protein - not just the whites - and the yolk has SOOO many more nutrients in it. It truly is the perfect food!! Yes bodybuilders do eat alot of egg whites - but they are also starting to recognize the importance of EFAs and healthy fats more and more!!
I try to remember that my body is a furnace and if I want my metabolism revved up I need to feed the furnace with fuel or else the fire will just go out. My hisband can tell when someone has a high metabolism or not just by touching their side when they have been doing cardio for about 1/2 hour. If their side is sweating but is COLD & CLAMMY - then their metabolism is slow. If their side is sweating but feels HOT - then their metabolism is functioning at a high level. Pretty interesting, huh? :yay:
