Hi! I am a new Atkin's follower thanks to the encouragement of my husband {Daddyo}. I have been in the Induction period for 2 weeks. At first it was a MAJOR SHOCK to my carb loving system but I am feeling better. my question concerns my period. I experienced endometriois all my life until our first son was born 11 years ago. Now this month I feel as if it has come roaring back with all the painful, nauseating symptoms. Is this normal? I have lost 5 lbs of my goal of 20. Is this something that will pass or I am doing something wrong? Thanks for your help~mrs. daddyo :wiggle:

It is VERY normal to have some disturbance of the menstrual cycle during the first month of low carbing. I speak not as a doctor (which I am not) but as a person who has read many questions about this and experienced it myself when I began in 1998.

Insulin is a master hormone. As LCing changes the way insulin acts and goes toward glucagon as the active hormone. you can expect to have an early period, skip a period, have an an extra period. By the 2nd cycle, things should have settled down. And for many women, they experience the first "normal cycle" they have had in years. LCing is recommended as a treatment for PCOS, an insulin-related disorder which includes infertility and very irregular periods. So PMS may be worse. And made worse by the carb withdrawal symptoms of headache, nausea, fatigue.

Luckily, this lasts only about a week. And then you begin to feel better. I hope that this will soon prove true for you.
