Hello there everyone,
I was reading the recipie for French Toast (and the glowing reviews), but what are Pork Rinds? Can you get them in Australia? If not, is there a substitute?

Hi Noni,
I buy Pork Krackles, made by Gold Medal, at Coles. Mind you, I frequent 2 Coles supermarkets and only one of them stocks the pork crackles.
I've only made the French toast once, and while it was okay, it seemed a lot of trouble. :daze: We mostly use them as a vehicle for dips. I spread the dip onto the crackles with a knife, or I think they'd break if you tried to dip them. ;)
You could try phoning a few supermarkets to see if they have them. If you still can't track them down, the phone number for Gold Medal Snacks Pty. Ltd. is (02) 97254855 and I'm sure they could tell you where to find them in Melbourne.
Cheers.

Thanks Rosebud, I've rung Gold Medal; they told me that they're in all of the larger or refurbished Safeway and Coles.
I also plan to use them as a crust for the Deep Pan Pizza and turn it into a quiche.
Thanks for the feedback on the French Toast. I'll let you know how mine goes...

I found them in coles and bi-lo supermarkets, in the potato chip section near the salted nuts and rice cracker things.

Rosebud (or other Brisbanites),
Which coles in Brisbane have them? I'm on the Southside and haven't found them yet.

Fairfield Gardens! I also shop at West End but have never seen them at West End Coles. Fairfield has them, not with the chippies, but with the nuts, which are in the lolly aisle. I try not to look as I grap my pork crackles and get out of there...

I'm in Sydney, what section of Coles do you find the Pork Crackles in? In the US we call them pork rinds and they're generally in the snack section with the potato and corn chips.

try the chip isle or with the nuts etc. if you can't find them ask the manager. they aren't always stocked, not all coles in melbourne have them.
