Just a quick questions about Carborite Crispy Caramel bar which is made by Carbolite. I bought some for the first time the other day and was so excited to try them. The bar I tried is only 1.1oz and is a single serving bar. It was absolutely delicious. Here's the problem within about 2 hours of eating "one" candy bar, I had to run to the bathroom. I read on the label that excessive consumption could cause a laxative effect, but I was really shocked when I had an extreme laxative effect from only one single serve bar. Needless to say I was at work and quite embarrased. Can anyone help me with this? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm scared to eat anymore and i'm having chocolate cravings and want to stay on the diet.
Any advise is appreciated! Thanks

Just bought a 16 pack of carborite 1.75 bars, for $18 at costcos, pretty good deal!

I had the same reaction... the rest of the box is still in the pantry. Maybe I'll give it to someone I hate....
If you really need chocolate, try a different kind... I can't eat Hershey's sf either.. but Russel Stovers doesn't "get" me as badly. Each is made with a different sugar alcohol, for me, ANYTHING with Lactitol is OUT!
There are some really good recipes under "Sweet Treats" in the kitchen section of the board that use Splenda. That would be best.

Unfortunately, they just seem to have a big effect on you. You can try eating just a tiny bit at a time - but that's tough to do (even when you know what reaction is going to follow) - or you can save them for when you need to get things moving
Try different brands - I'm not sure what sweetener the Carborite bars use - probably malitol? Try something with lacitol (try this at home first  ) that might not affect you as badly. (Hershey's uses lacitol)

Thank you potatofree for the suggestion. I tried Russell Stovers and didn't have a reaction at all and they were quite delicious. The carborite is going in the trash!
P.S. Congrats on your successful weighloss so far!!!

I had the same Horrible reaction to Carbolite candy. I ate their gummy bears, and they made me really sick all day. I was either extremely nauseus or headed to the bathroom every 5 minutes. It was weird because I've never had a reaction like that to other lc candy. Never Again!

I agree with the Russell Stovers. Their toffee is awesome and the lack of side effects is a plus :p

I agree the carborite choc gets to me too. Gas out the rin rang. My mom tried them too and she had the trots for a whole day. The doctor told her since she was lactose senitive to stay away from lactitol.
