It's the little things that mean so much. As I got heavier and heavier it was noticeable how people wouldn't want to sit too close to you (I shower every morning, so I don't think it's cause I smell) Sad but true
Well as the pounds fall off I'm noticing the same people now occupying the seat next to me more often.
Anyone else found this?

Hi Muddy,
I know what you mean. It's as if some people worry that fat is contagious! Good for you!

lol... that would probably be the first good thing to come from being big IMO! i would rather be as far away from all them id.. umm.. people as i possibly can be!!
I find the farthest corner from anyone to sit when i go out or am in the company breakroom ect cause as long as they are at least 10 foot away i don't have to talk to them!! lol
I have started having people come up and talk to me all the time.. even people i have never seen before.. annoys the heck out of me :(
if you have not guessed i am rather anti-social and very shy in person :P

Crysania, you remind me of one of my (favorite) sisters. She doesn't like people very much either. She says being in a steam bath (at the gym) reminds her of gorilla's in the mist. If soemone talks to her while she's in there, she'll embarrass the heck out of me by first, staring at them for a second, then frown, then look away-never saying a single word. Then I feel compelled to make it up to the person by yaking my head off like an idiot! But I actually admire my sister very much. She thinks most people talk too much and have too little worth saying. She makes me laugh a lot!

Kathy, your sister sounds totally cool :) we'd get along great other then the fact we'd never talk!
I don't like small talk i love debats and very deep topics though (unless i have a book in hand, which draws people that want to talk like flys to honey....)

Hi Crysania
It's funny, but my sister is a deep thinker and loves to debate as well! I noticed you put "Curves" as your program. Did you mean you actually go to the Curves gym? I'm asking because I have one close to my house and was thinking about joining (in about 50 pounds, so I don't have a heart attack or attract so much attention I'll go home and kill myself) If you are going to Curves, I'd love to know what you think of it. Is that how you lost your 50 pounds (wow!)?

Kathy,
I go to Curves too -- if you have one in your area, check it out....you'll probably love it! It's not a ultra high intensity work out, and if any of the machines are too much, the owner will probably work with you to find your comfort level. There are a couple of women where I go that can't do the shoulder machine, and the owner has worked with them so they do their sit/squat type excersize outside of the machine so they don't have the weight on their shoulders and eventually will work up to that.
You'll probably be surprised at all the different ages/shapes/sizes of women that go to Curves! I went to Gold's Gym first and felt like a whale in the middle of a penguin convention --- I went to Curves and I fit right in and look foward to going 3x a week!
I definitely would highly recommend any lady to go to Curves, regardless of their size or age because chances are, you'll feel like you belong as soon as you walk in the door!
(sorry for butting in on the conversation - I'm just so excited that I finally found a "gym" where I feel comfortable and look foward to going - and I never would have tried it out if it wasn't for the ladies here!)

Hi Jaya,
Thanks so much for the information about Curves. I've been thinking of checking it out for a while, but dread being the BIGGEST one there. I will check it out soon, though. Is it expensive? I'm thinking I'd try and get into the earliest time in the morning possible, then not have to see anyone or be seen.

Kathy,
They have a one time only induction fee which normally is $149, but I paid around $50 because of some promotion they had going on. Then the monthly charge is either $39 a month, or $29 a month.....to get the $29 a month you have to commit to a full year and they automatically charge the $29 each month on your credit card (or take it from you checking account). But even if you commit to the full year and then back out a few months later, it's not that big of a penalty - they basically just convert from $29 to $39 and you have to pay them the difference up to a maximim of $50 -- you don't have to continue paying each month....at least that was the way it was explained to me. :)
It's definitely worth every penny! Just to be able to go somewhere, work out AND feel comfortable is totally worth it!
I'm probably one of the bigger ladies that goes to Curves here - but that's okay. There are several women that are close to my size and I look foward to the day when I'll be one of the skinny women, that everyone wonders why I'm there!
Best of luck!

curves has a diet too, which is actully what i am doing right now. i don't have a work schedule that allows me to go to curves to workout, but when i get back from vacation the end of next month i will and plan on starting :)
I have heard so many wondeful things about it, and can't wait to try it.
