Who WAS the jerk on the CBS Early SHow this morning? He was from teh "Center for Responsible Medicine" or something like that...I missed most of his spiel, but heard him saying how these high-protein "fad diets" are SO hard on your kidneys...dangerous...low fat is So much better...etc...

I had to get my son out to the bus, so I missed his name. I need to know who to "thank"...<grrrr>

Well, thank goodness I did not actually see that particular travesty, but I bet anything it was PCRM, "Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine" with some clown named Neal Barnard. It's a front group for Vegan/vegetarian extremists. No regard to the truth whatever. Do a search on PCRM and you will find numerous exposes of them. Bill

You are likely thinking of one of the following --

Physicians Comitee for Responsible Medicine -- Front for PETA. <5% of members are Doctors. Main goal is to force veganism on America. Currently trying to replace milk in the schools with soymilk. Has threatened to sue doctors who suggest an LC Diet to patients.

Center for Science in the Public Interest -- Alarmist Group...They feel like noone should have any pleasure in eating. They are against Fat, Sugar, Artificial Sweeteners, Meat, and pretty much most any other food that doesn't taste like Cardboard.

Yep, it was said group and said quack... (lowcarbeating.com's semi-mirror of what we have here alerted about the story).

There's a handy feedback hyperlink at the bottom of the story's page... in which I asked CBS why they were giving airtime to Neal and his extremist PCRM vegan group in misportraying them as a legitimate medical/science source.

Who the heck is this quack? What kind of doctor is he. Is he an endocrinologist to tell me that my adrenals are all messed up from Atkins? I can't believe that BS. I used to be the QUEEN of PMS. Since I've been following the Atkins WOE I don't have PMS any more. Too bad this guy isn't a gal so that he could really experience what PMS is all about, he'd switch from veganism to low carb pretty darned fast. Some of the worst PMS'ers I know are either ovo-lacto vegetarians or vegans.

Interesting how they 'cherry pick' the language for words with positive connotations, like "physicians" and "responsible" , this is reminiscent of the old cold war governments in eastern european countries, full of "peoples" and "democratic" and "republic" when in fact they were places like Rumania that would lock you up for laughing. How DID they get any credibility, be on the lists of "orgs to call for balanced viewpoint?" If media is doing a piece on racial issues, do they call the American Nazi party? the Klan? I suppose if these orgs changed their name to "Loving committee for peace and racial harmony" they might get more air time? Bah. humbug.

Alaskaman, you beat me to my next post! When a group / nation or even TV news channel (e.g. "Fox News... Fair and Balanced" shyeah, Right[-wingers]!) has to use those euphemisms, I automatically take a more skeptical eye. Perhaps it's (indirectly) "good" that the media is having to fish so far into the extremist pool to get anti low carbers, that the mainstream is slowly reducing its willingness to stick its neck out (well, one can hope for such a slow trend developing, at least) to bash low carbing in strong enough terms to garner tv ratings.

"force feed him a bacon cheeseburger" I like that. Don't forget to throw away the bun! Did you know why the price of french pate de foie gras is rising? In order to produce the really fat livers that make superior pate, it is necessary to force-feed the geese, with some kind of funnel arrangement. Traditionally this forcefeeding role has fallen to teenage girls. Well, guess what, the modern generation of french teenagers does not take to this automatically. Translate into correct idiomatic french: "Ewww," "gag me with a spoon." and "so i'm like, no way, you know?"

lolol...I have a teenage daughter with a phobia regarding geese..she was hissed at by one at a county fair when she was about three, and NEVER forgot it! You wouldn't get her within a LONG funnel of them... on the other hand, she LOVES ducks. <shrug> go figure!

I was just reading in the Carb Addicts Healthy Heart Program about how they fatten lab rats with MSG. Something NEW to be paranoid about! I'm hoping to not have to believe they're right about artificial sweeteners as well....<sigh>

When I was really young, I was by the side of the lake behind my Grandma's place, about to eat a sandwich. I started to raise it to my mouth, when a Duck grabbed it right out of my hand. I was afraid of Ducks for quite a while after that.

Ah PCRM... everyones favorite vegan quacks. The lying media (who are quite biased against atkins as they personally profit both from junk food advertisements and anti-atkins sensationalism) puts up these vegan nazis and talking heads, who's first priority is to push their speculative and very insane moral position before they even consider human health. Examples of such nutters are PCRM agents and Dean Ornish.

The state of our media is really quite sad.
