Hello everyone...

I'm really berry, berry new to this Low Carb plan...

I am a vegan/vegetarian not a piscatorian (think that's how you spell it?) (one who eats fish).

I've joined the forum in the hope of feeling better within.

In fact it was my daughter who encouraged me to try LCD (Low Carb); she felt it would be of some benifit to my health. She has been doing it for a month now and is looking fantastic, wish it were me!! LOL...

I've only been on this plan for three days only but already I feel a difference within, which is great.

My problem is I'm really not sure what I'm doing. I was hoping that perhaps someone would be kind enough to advise me with a website which will actually explain the diet or plan in full.

Is there anyone else out there who suffers ill health?

Is this my correct understanding!! I am able to eat any amount of protein i.e. fat, butter, cheese, eggs, tofu, soy milk and if I was a meat eater include all meats, poultry etc, etc? Am I limited to the amount or can I just eat until I'm full, any limit's???

My understanding of low carb is zilch? I've tried to find a site that just gives me a list of low carb fruits and vegetables that I can use but I can't find one, and are we allowed to have fruits and if so?? which ones and this includes veggies as well too??? So I guess I'm asking what I should and should not do.

Sorry to be a pain but I really want to learn about this low carb plan and way of life...

Thanks for listening and I await your replies...

Good luck and I wish you all great success!!

Just one more question; "how do you get those animated smiley's to work??? I just wuv em!!

hi Nancye, welcome aboard

I see in your profile that you've read a bit at the Atkins website; that's a good start  but it can be a bit overwhelming with so much information!

To help you understand very basically what low-carb diets are about, have a read through this article from our Low Carb Tips ... Low Carb Basics (http://www.lowcarb.ca/tips/tips004.html). It explains in a general way how low-carb works, and how it's different from low-calorie and low-fat diets.

While the Atkins program is most popular, there are other plans which can be adapted to vegetarian needs. Actually, Atkins could be very difficult to follow for the 2-week Induction period, since the carb level during that time is kept quite low .. 20g per day. (Note that it's not zero carbs ;)) Vegetarian proteins all have some carbs in them .. even eggs and cheese. Only flesh meats, pure fats and oils, and water are truly zero carbs.

There's a sticky post at the top of the list of messages in this Vegetarian forum .. have a read through Tips for Vegetarian Low-Carbers (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=66633) .. there's lots of ideas how to adapt low-carb.

It can be done .. just takes planning. Most important thing is to ensure you get adequate protein and plenty of natural fats and oils ... these will form the core of your diet. Low-carb vegetables and salads will round out the menu, and small amounts of low-carb fruits such as berries and melon.

...Just one more question; "how do you get those animated smiley's to work??? I just wuv em!!.You need to set the option from your User control panel.

Click on the http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/top_profile.gif icon near the top of the page. From there, select the Options tab. Scroll down to the section Use vBCode quick links on your message input screens?. Select the "Show Standard Toolbar" option. Then hit Submit at the bottom  That will do the trick.

note - I don't recommend using the WYSIWYG toolbar .. too many have reported problems with that.

Hello Doreen...

Thank you so much for your input, it was very much appreciated.

I am interested to know it all as of "yesterday". It's hard starting something new but I'm sure once I get to know more about it; I will look back on this and wonder what I was really worried about.

I have much to learn! Hopefully I will; but there is so much to absorb and even learning to use the forum site, I'm finding that a wee little difficult but I know in time I will pick it up. I hope!

Anyway thank you again and will plug along... I tried the smiley's and it didn't work, it must be the inexperienced operater here lol...

Bye for now...

Hey Nancye!

Welcome to the forum and low carbing. You will probably have to rely on olive oil a lot since you don't eat any cheese or dairy. Most low carb plans are high in fats. I have been doing low carb for a year now and really like it. I would be happy to answer any questions you have.

Hi Paleoanthropo...

Received your message and thank you and yes I would like to natter to you more. I somehow found your profile and noticed i.e. yahoo so I messaged you to say thank you for your input.

When next you have time I would very much like to spend some time on this matter.

I have learned one thing this morning. Another lass by the name of Collette has been trying to rid of herself of Yeast and so I responded by telling her my story and while doing so I realized that what I did back then to rid myself from Candida was really no different to the low carb plan I'm on at the moment... So here I am asking all these questions when perhaps I had the answers already tucked away in my little brain... LOL!! Quite funny...

Yeah so when you are next online; I would love to say hello...

Thanks very much...

Nancye...

PS: When I messaged you I had lost your message but have since worked out what procedure I must follow to find any messages etc... Just look under my profile...!!!

Nancye-

From what I hear, getting rid of yeast (candida?) is done with a low carb regime. That is good that you already have an idea of what you should do! I would be happy to talk to you anytime you see me online. I do eat cheese and dairy, though. I can't give up cheese!

Hopefully you will begin to feel better. Since you have relatively less to lose than some people on this forum, just be prepared to have some patience.

Hi Pale...

Yeah you're right! I do have a little idea of what I am doing.

You made the comment of not having as much to lose as others, maybe so; but even though I have less to lose than most it is still a difficult battle for me as I have rather a sedentry life which I lead which is due to ill-health and it's difficult knowing you have to do exercise when most times you don't have the energy to even get out of bed, but some days it's not quite like that but a majority of it is, sometimes life ain't easy but when I do get out of bed; hey I'm amongst the best of them, I give it my best, so my weight problem is a big problem to me.

If I was healthy like the majority and had vitality on my side as most do I'm sure I'd be amongst the best of em pounding the footpaths like you wouldn't believe but those days are gone for me; so I am content to keep trying other avenues..

But just to say I never lose faith either, I am a fighter and have been for the last twenty years of horrid health...

And yes I would love to natter when I see you online...

Thanks Nancye...
