Anyone know the net carbs in metamucil??? the fibre supplement??
Am having a few problems with ahem, lack of fibre in the diet, but having trouble getting enough from veggies. Seeing fibre itself is not digested, wondering if anyone knows about metamucil - or other fibre supplements? Does it have sugar?Does it have other net carbs?
More questions than a kid on a sugar rush  But I assure you I'm not on one!!!!

http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jhtml?PRODID=2730&CATID=100101 suggests you're looking at 12g per serve - 9 of which are sugars!
Why not just try some Psyllium Husk? That's the active ingredient it contains without the artificial colours and sweeteners.
I make a LC muffin and include some of the husks in the recipe and I haven't had a problem since! I know others just add it to their daily protein shake. It's a pretty inoffensive little product.
Good luck.

There is such a thing as sugar free Metamucil. It has about 3½ carbs per serve. :)
Even so, I'd suggest the plain psyllium husks also (Metamucil is psyllium with added flavours to make it more palatable). Just stir a tablespoon or so into a glass of water, then down it quickly before you have time to think about it. It doesn't taste wonderful - more like chaff - but adding a squeeze of lemon juice helps. ;)
Just a heads up, if you are taking a fibre supplement of any sort, take your (other) supplements either 2 hours after or 1 hour before taking the fibre, otherwise the fibre will interfere with the absorption of your vitamins. And do make sure you are drinking lots and lots of water if you take psyllium, otherwise you'll wind up more constipated than ever. http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung0903/aktion/action-smiley-082.gif
Cheers.

I make my protein shakes with psyllium husk added (recipe from this site but can’t remember where) and I discovered that when I put the leftovers in the fridge, the next day it’s turned into a semi-solid mousse like dessert. I make a berry shake using mixed frozen berries, cream, unflavoured whey protein, water, psyllium and strawberry DaVinci and also a vanilla shake using Vanilla DaVinci. The berry shake turns into strawberry mousse and the vanilla shake reminds me of rice pudding. It’s certainly a more pleasant way to get your fibre than drinking it straight!

What is DaVinci? Sounds like something we can't get here in Australia!!!
Like your bathroom smiley rosebud, made me literally laugh out loud!!!
Will have a lookout for the sugar-free stuff, either psyllium or metamucil, hmmm it all sounds pretty unappetizing though!!!

DaVinci is the brand name of the range of sugar free flavoured syrups that people often refer to in the Kitchen section of this forum. You can get them through Pine Tea and Coffee in Castle Hill. Have a look at the thread I posted last week about them on the Australia/NZ forum.

Hi eveyone, just wanted to make a suggestion about the psyllium husks. At first I tried mixing them in water but the texture and taste made me gag. Then I found psyllium husk capsules at my local GNC I take 1 capsule every morning and night and I haven't had any problems since. The only minor drawback is the price, unlike the psyllium husks in the pure form, these (like most products from GNC) are a tad more expensive. I think it was $14.95 for 90 capsules (so one and a half months supply), for me it's worth it.
hope this helps

Thanks Susie & Zedgirl, will try both suggestions!! Am not too far from Castle Hill, and GNC is my favourite haunt (along with scrapbooking shops lol) :)
