It's dated Sept 5, so it's not that old... interesting article. Wow: I knew the AHA and ADA were stuck in the dark ages about fats, but what in the world makes them just throw glycemic load out the window?! How can they dismiss it so flippantly?

Excellent article, and I love this quote:

"The debate over whether every person who puts food in his mouth should
know about this is fervid even for the field of dietary wisdom, where
fierce opinions based on ironclad beliefs and sparse data are standard"

And talk about a fierce opinion:

"But that seems unlikely any time soon at the heart association. The head of
its nutrition committee, Dr. Robert Eckel of the University of Colorado,
says the theory that high-GI foods make people hungry is "ridiculous" and
argues that a scientific case can be made for just the opposite."

I would love to hear his 'scientific case' for the opposite, but somehow I think that's not likely to happen.

Thanks for posting this...very interesting reading. The AMA and AHA have been advocating low-fat for so many years...while the nation has gotten so heavy and associated health issues have exploded. Can you imagine the impact of having to say they were wrong?

Very interesting article.

But.....why are low-carb diet called "schemes".....makes it sound even worse than fad!

And I am NOT carbo-phobic! I'm a carb snob! LOL

They'll get it eventually...and then we can all collectively say "We told you so!"

LOL

"Scheme" is a British expression for plan or system. Ex: An insurance "scheme" instead of referring to it as an insurance plan.

ok! I didn't know that.....you talk about an insurance scheme in the states and you're talking about fraud.

All indications from this article lead me to believe it was an "american" article....writen in, by and for Americans.
