Well, so far I lost about 6kg. I started at 104kg, two weeks ago I weight at 98kg. I have not weight myself since, the bath room scale I got died on me :skull:

My target weight is about 80kg, heheh. I am 184cm tall large body frame. I am enjoying every moment of it.

Some how I am not tempted by all the carb food around me yet

saymeng, welcome.

it's going to be a bumpy road ahead...But as long as you control 'the steering wheel' well enough. If you don't steer too off track, you can be on your way to an awesome turning pt in life.

there are a hell lot of 'dangerous' foods than the ones you see inside the Atkins book or a carb counter book. That's why Singapore's a food paradise. watch out...~ but don't be too restrictive...will fall off the wagon faster. :doah:

Hi Fumih_81,

Thanks for the advice, any ideas where I can get my hands on pork rinds in singapore? I do not want to cook them myself becasue it will probably mess up the kitchen, heheh. :)

Fumih_81

pork rinds can be bought at lucky plaza 3rd floor onwards...those Filipino stores. or else consider Golden Mile Complex where there are many thai stores. quite interesting to observe Filipino products...

They cost $2 a pack...some taste just right some tough-chewing...they recommend to go with this special sauce that is hot n sour...

Hi fellow SG LCers :D,

Been lurking here for sometimes liao, nice to see fellow Singaporeans sharing tips on Atkins diet. Personally I have been on the diet for 1 mth and so far the weight loss has been satisfactory. I just started taking Xenardine (The original formulation, not the local version) and would like to ordering another product from Bodybuilding.com. Just wondering if anyone would like to purchase something from there. Maybe we can share the shipping cost. I ordered a thermogenic from there (on impulse actually) and it arrived in good condition. So I guess its safe to order from there. If u would like to combine purchase, feel free to post here or PM me and we can discuss further :)

Chromium is a good supplement to control insulin levels. other than 'chromium picolinate', you can take the other forms of chromium found in GNC...it is present in many thermogenics such as Xenadrine.

tsk tsk, i just realised that these days my heart 'got a little tight' due to the sugary mooncakes....and right now i have not replenished my thermogenics....i hate mooncakes.

btw, anyone saw these bunch of diet drinks at bishan j8 ntuc? i bought diet mug rootbeer, diet A&W rootbeer and diet dr pepper.....diet mug tastes better than diet A&W...aiyo i thought the other way round and regretted. i shld have bought more diet mug rootbeer

Is xenadrine good then? and permissible during induction?
sorry i hv no idea abt such supplements n stuff =P

oh where did u see the diet root beer n stuff? NTUC?
i only found diet lipton lemon tea , tangs orange, snapple ermm kool aid ..
plus they had "sweet n low" which is sodium saccharine ..
trying to look for diet 7-up but couldnt find it anywhere .. so strange ...

The Xenardine RFA-1 that GNC is selling is not the original formulation, thus effectiveness cannot be compared to the original Xenadrine. You may want to wait for the Xenardine EFX, which is the newer formulation that is without Ephedra. Cytodyne claims the newer formulation is more effective than the ECA stack based formulation (RFA-1).

Hi All, I finally got a copy of Atkins :read2: and is actively reading it.

OK, what is thing about "Xenadrine" ?

Fumih_81
Mon, Sep-15-03, 09:08
Xenadrine is a kind of thermogenic. They increase your body metabolism and gives you the maximum workout when you exercise. on the other hand they contain ingredients such as Chromium, green tea extract, white kidney beans etc...those you find in Extrim actually. They help you to stabilize your insulin levels, suppress some appetite (Zantrex 7 has this horrible after taste that naturally stopped me from eating too much).

when you start taking them, take half of the recommended portion because for some people they will experience irregular heartbeat. Xenadrine is the best so far, the worst being Hydroxycut. Zantrex 7 is as good as Xenadrine, but horrible after taste...Britney Spears takes Zantrex as well I read it somewhere.

They cost like $100 plus per bottle...lasts a month. There is an imitation brand called Synedrine. It contains the bad chromium called chromium picolinate. but i found myself wanting to go to the loo after 15 mins of taking this...but Synedrine is also not bad, i could feel the tightening of my skin...

in all, i will still go back to Xenadrine after trying various brands. yeah importantly shld get the version without ephedra or they call it ma huang. some people died of complications with ma huang.

Fumih_81
Mon, Sep-15-03, 09:09
btw if anyone dunno where to get Xenadrine, you can get it from a store that is increasing their branches all over sg. It is called GNC ....

sharks, GNC changed their policy about redeeming pts. argh!

A bottle of Xenadrine EFX cost about $60.80 SGD according to Bodybuilding.com. Definitely cheaper than what G*C is selling and its the new formula and not the RFA-1 (which is available ~ G*C) without Ma Huang ;)

chromium picolinate is said to affect ur offspring...something to do with genes i guess. it was like a more 'recent' findings and published in the papers. you can search for this supplement in this forum, probably you will see threads talking abt this particular ingredient. but take note, just this version of chromium. other versions are absolutely fine as of now... =P

dim sum? the first thing i tot was only siew mai. thats all actually...and dont forget the siew mai contains corn starch as well.

what do y'all bake with soya flour? i never tried it.

BTW, anyone knows where I can buy "Splenda"? I tried "sweet and low" for baking and the bitter taste is very very bad.

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie in this forum. Was wondering if anyone has heard of or tried Guggulbolic (another thermogenic)? You can buy it in Singapore ~ $55. See details below. Got the information from http://www.nutri-forefront.com/

Cheers,
Ginkgo :p

Guggulbolic
Metabolic Regulator by Syntrax

Syntrax believes that losing weight is of little value if most/ all of the weightloss is in muscle/ lean tissue. Their products are specifically designed to target adipose tissue and preserve lean body mass, resulting in a rapid and powerful leaning effect.

Guggulbolic is a very special, high-potency guggul extract which conforms to all Ayurvedic standards of extraction. Guggulbolic has been shown in studies to dramatically increase the rate of fat loss by increasing thyroid hormone levels. This effect is quite noticeable and one can actually feel a rise in body temperature.

Guggulsterones have been shown in studies to drastically reduce cholesterol levels, improve acne conditions, and increase thyroid hormone levels (thus greatly increasing fat loss). While some other supplement companies use a solvent extracted low-potency guggul extract, Syntrax Innnovations, Inc. uses a special high potency natural extract which conforms to all Ayurvedic criteria.

Hello fellow Singa LCers,
Have been following this forum for at lease 2 months now and hv been on & off Atkins without much success.

Actually I am not overweight (45kg) but just flabby and fat at the wrong places! I was actually on a vegetarian diet for almost 2 years!!

Started on Atkins again (3 weeks ago) and did quite well until last Sat. I busted my diet "overdose" of peanuts sob....
The effect was instant! The next day my tummy bloat like nobody's business. I was so demorlaised that I ate some more carbs, 1 apple and at least 10 seeds of ranbutan.....

BTW, is Ngoh Hiang and fried Tau Kwa a low carb food? Thought of having them as Breakfast. Got tired of eggs eggs and more eggs...

About Splenda. Spoke to Staff of NTUC, actually splenda is banned in Singapore that is why all supermarkets do not carry them now.

About Xenadrine, will it help if I do not exercise?

these days been busy. i just want to say dont buy Xenadrine EFX. GNC said it contains a banned substance. that is why they only sell the RFA-1 version. i just got myself the RFA-1 again....Xenadrine is still very much the best among other similar supplements. no irregular heart beats for me...and the taste not too yucky.just that my finger will fidget a little sometimes.

Newbie123

Xenadrine RFA-1 is the one that contains the banned substance, ephedrine (otherwise know as Ma Huang). Xenadrine EFX is the new version without ephedrine. I have been on Xenadrine RFA-1 for the past 3 weeks. It gives a increased burst of energy after 30mins. Can really "feel" it. Initially got those jitters but a couple of days, my body got used to it, now is ok liao. Anyway for Xendarine, its best to cycle it. 3 weeks on, 1 weeks off (or 2 weeks on 2 week off) so that the body will not get accustomed to it.

Fumih_81
Sun, Sep-28-03, 02:23
yeah it seems like they took out the ma huang substance for the sg RFA-1 bottles. So why they dont sell the EFX version in Sg?

newbie...do you take the full 4 capsules a day? Imagine there are only 60 in one bottle...and that makes it last half a month. I think I will prefer to take 2 only before I workout. Or else, it could be 1 capsule before meal. Yeah my preference will be no capsules during wkends to reduce dependency on it.

Newbie123
Sun, Sep-28-03, 03:20
Yup, I took 4 capsules a day. 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening. Mine bottle is the 120 capsules version, so it can last me for a month + 1 week (based on 3 week on, 1 week off). Maybe they are trying to clear stock for the EFX. GNC is having a 20% promo for Hydroxycut & Xendarine RFA-1 now if I am not wrong.

* Maybe you should try going to the GYM and tone your body.

Started on Atkins again (3 weeks ago) and did quite well until last Sat. I busted my diet "overdose" of peanuts sob....

* Based on Dr.A, it is OK but not too often, it will just make it alot more harder to loose weight. Peanuts IMO is not too bad, at least alot more better than potato chips.

The effect was instant! The next day my tummy bloat like nobody's business. I was so demorlaised that I ate some more carbs, 1 apple and at least 10 seeds of ranbutan.....

* your bloated tummy might be from all the peanuts. :P

BTW, is Ngoh Hiang and fried Tau Kwa a low carb food? Thought of having them as Breakfast. Got tired of eggs eggs and more eggs...

* Ngoh Hiang IMO is a NO NO probably loaded with alot of hidden carbs. Tau Kwa is good. You can try bacon or cheese with eggs.

About Splenda. Spoke to Staff of NTUC, actually splenda is banned in Singapore that is why all supermarkets do not carry them now.

* Hmmm....you probably kana Conned by NTUC staff, pulled a fast one on you becasue they do not know the answer. Well...just my thoughts.

a rule of thumb for those sweet meats is that basically you can ask our own tongue. if we avoid sugar regularly (ie not used to sugar)...the least bit of sugar our tongue can sure sense it.... yeah bak kwa is also my favourite. i think typically my meals would be western food....economy rice, fast food, salmon sashimi....basically i make my meals be 60% meat, 40% veges and rice. i usually cant finish even a quarter of my rice. but i think i have a soft spot for bee hoon, choco, potatoes...kekekekekek...

heyy do any Xenadrine takers experience this airbloat-around-the-heart problem? it feels like a little air blob going around the heart...and i can feel that there is air around my kidneys...like air trapped....last time when i first take xenadrine, i felt the same but didnt know it is caused by xenadrine. but now i am aware of it. and i have taken it for 2 wks plus, felt the xenadrine taste inside me that feels 'repelling' ...

Hi Krystle,

Welcome! :wiggle:

Before any recommedations from us you will need to understand that LC (low carbing) is not a temporary thing, it is for life! So if you should decide to go LC then I strongly suggest that you do your research first and go get a book :read: on LC. I am on Atkins, I got my book from Borders for $20++, "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" = DANDR.

Please remember to do proper research before you start LC, it can be very dangerous if done wrongly :nono: .

Also, if you do not have alot of weight to loose, LC diet can be very very slow for you to achieve your target weight. There are actually four stages to LC way of eating. Early stages of LC diet can be expensive $$$$$ until your body gets adjusted.

Next, if you were to go on LC and off LC very often, it will make your body highly resistance to weight loss. :doah: As a matter of fact the same go for any other diet program.

If you still want to go on LC after all the above then I will try to answer as many questions as I can.

For Atkins, there are four stages:

1. Induction - 14 days or more

This stage is to basically switch your body from burning sugar as a primary source of fuel to burning your own body fat. You cannot avoid this stage. You can go to atkins webpage to read more about it and what are the stuff you are alowed to eat.

Basically for me (in Singapore, non-muslim food)

Breakfast - go to fried bee hoon stall to order:

2 x fried eggs
2 x toufu
2 x small fried fish
2 x chicken wings

Lunch - "young tau hu" is your best friend.

"Young tau hu" - must choose carefully and only order soup based, drop the source!
OR
"Ba Kut Teh" w/o rice - go east on the soup, i think some stalls put sugar inside.
OR
Slice fish soup w/o rice
OR
Slice beef soup

Dinner - western food but drop the fries and bread, also NO sweet chilli source or cook yourself. I find making my own salad quite cheap and easy.

It is important that you should drink at least 2 litres of water a day  . You should spread your water consumption throughout the day to maximize it's benifits. Do not try to drink 2 litres of water at one go. :nono:

Do not worry about drinking too much water because, assuming that you have healthy kidneys, your body can safely process between 12-15 litres of water in a day. I normally drink about 4 litres a day becasue I am a big person.

The follow three stages, I do not think I need to explain right now.

2. Ongoing weight loss

3. Pre-Maintenance - very close to reaching your desired weight,

4. Lifetime Maintenance - when you reach your desired weight.

*flips DANDR book...............*

OK based on Dr. A, no fruits during Induction. You are allowed a total of 20grams of carb per day. You should get most of your carbs from vegetables.

Do not eat carrots, potatos and corn which we can easily get in sing. All green vegetables are OK. All herbs and spices are ok.

You can eat all types of meat including the fat! hehe  (serious  ) Do not eat fried meat with flour coating, go for BBQ types. Also watch out for process meat like hot dogs as they have high salt content and starch in them. Bacon are ok but moderate them becasue they contain nitrate and so far did not come across any in sing without nitrate.

All types of sea food but watch out for shelled types cause they contain carbs.

All Cheese but watch out they contain carbs.

Eggs (your best friend) are good and cheap, I eat close to 20 whole eggs per week. I know what you are thinking right now.....I am crazy! but.......before you jump the gun please do a search on the web about egg cholesterol and human cholesterol. Study enough and you will know that they are safe to eat.

Fast food IMO is a No No, unless you got no other choice. In LC life style we want to eat highly nutritious foods not a piece of round brown thing fast food companies call "meat".

Also, you will need to go get yourself some multi-vitamins (for women type) and omega3 fish oil supplements. They are suppose to help you out during Induction.

***Only eat until you feel full, do not eat too little and over eat. Eat slowly, it takes our body about 20mins to tell our brain that we are full.

There are generally two types of carbs, complex and simple. We want to concentrate on eating complex carbs only.

Do not buy "low fat" stuff becasue they are full of carbs. Go for stuff like "Real Mayo" not low fat mayo.

Go for butter not margerine.

You food ratio must maintain like <10% carbs, 25-35% protein and 55-65% fats.

A recount of my own experience during induction.............

I was constantly thinking about eating even after I have just had a meal. It is due to my addiction to carbs, so I split my meals into about 5 to 6 times a day. In the begining I was eating alot more food then normal (w/o rice and noodles) and it was kinda of expensive ($30-$40 per day). I also had problems sleeping the first few days and had a mild headache (addiction to carb). Then..........14 days gone.

After some time LCing (different for everyone) your need for the quantity of food will slowly get less, this is becasue you body is getting adjusted. So do not be worried if you are spending alot more then usual for food in the begining of LCing. :doah:

Nowadays, I need less sleep, I wake up very alert, I am never sleepy after lunch, I got alot of energy, do not feel hungry between meals. :wiggle:

Thanzz for telling me that...I was just getting real worried....I tried today not to have rice/noodle...juz a feel of what its going to be like.... i ended up eating : steam egg, vegetables, fried fish, fish cake, hot dogs, bacon, omelet, lots of yong tau fu stuff....(Whao, plus tiny bits of rice and sweet drinks).. The whole day i found myself digging in my kitchen!.........But after what you say...i think its normal ritez?...or izzit still a lot ahzz?....
Anywayzz...thanzzz a lottt...I'm prob getting the book this coming sat (yeah)...and hopefully setting myself into the diet =)

I think you should stop eating rice altogether :nono: , especially during induction. Aviod eating too many fish cakes as they do contain starches. I would suggest that you add some cheese to increase your fat intake. I personally found that I do not like to eat salty cheese and I managed to find one called "elemental" (spelling might be wrong) which is a long rectangular block, they are high in fat and low in carb, found in NTUC and Cold Storage (more $$). Another type are bably adams, they are small round orange/red cheese.

The sweet drink you are refering to I hope are stuff like diet soda right? Just one can of normal coke can have more than 30grams of carbs. You you really need to have one go for coke light, they have zero carbs. But......some peope stops loosing weight after taking them. I do not have that problem so far...

Dr. A do not encourage people on his diet to take products that contain aspartame

Beri normal, it will go away in a few more days, but might take longer depending on your degree of carb addiction.

hmmm...okok...i will remember that...I have a problem with finding food without carb in them... i went shopping in cold storage and literally went through almost all the food to try to find those without starch....and i almost found none except bacon....and for those with starch are like hot dogs, crab meat.....i don't even know whether they are present in small enough quantity or not....how ahz?(The worse thing is I tend to snack a lot lot).....do you think u can recommend any shops or food that i can snack on?.....

you are allowed 20 grams of carbs per day, you should try cheese, cucumber, tuna as snacks during induction.

After induction you may have in moderation strawberries, blue berries and nuts as snacks.

heyy do any Xenadrine takers experience this airbloat-around-the-heart problem? it feels like a little air blob going around the heart...and i can feel that there is air around my kidneys...like air trapped....last time when i first take xenadrine, i felt the same but didnt know it is caused by xenadrine. but now i am aware of it. and i have taken it for 2 wks plus, felt the xenadrine taste inside me that feels 'repelling' ...

Perhaps u should try reducing the dosage? For me, I took 2 capsule 15mins (as opposed to 30mins cos Xenadrine seems to kick within 15mins for me) before I do my morning/evening workout. During workout, I dun feel anything. But if I take Xenardine without working out, the jitterness (I feel funny) will kick in. And yah, Xenardine got a funny taste (like ginger if I am not mistaken, especially if u burp) =)

I think meat balls and fish balls/cakes are OK if you only take in moderation.

What stuff are you planning to order?

Hi, good job at 2.5kg, that is quite fast. Remember to up your water in take.

Like I have mention earlier to you, during induction you will notice a good drop in weight becasue of water loss and followed by much slower loss becasue you do not have alot of weight to loss. Our body will fight us every single inch on the way to our desired weight.

I suggest that you do not take the cookies until after your induction phase, also check to make sure that the sweetner used. Certain types of sweetner are know to cause people to stall at weight loss. If you really cannot tahan, hehe then just take one and keep the rest.

That is sugar alcohol, take only after induction.

You should avoid weighting yourself too often. Did you check the spec of your scale? some are +/-5 kg tolerance.

Trying using a measuring tape to measure your body, chest, waist, thigh, arms.

Also, weight yourself only once a week at the same time. For me I prefer to do it first thing in the morning after I clear my bowel.

Hi Guys/Gals,

I found splenda sweetened candies in NTUC Bishan. They are located in the same section where they put all the artifical sweeteners. :yay:

But probably need to watchout on the carbs. 4 pcs will have total of 17grams carbs. :)

Hiya Everyone!!

I m living and working in Singapore now and I m glad to find some atkins dieters here :)

I have learnt so much about the atkins way of living and eating since I started doing the induction 2 months ago. I m reaching my mini goal pretty soon too - can't wait till Xmas arrives!!

I feel it is very easy to make shopping mistakes especially there are so many sugar free and fat free products in Singapore. Please be careful. I agreed with saymeng that you have to look out for the carb content of each product. Fat free products are usually high in carb. Those sugar free products might use frutose instead of Splenda as subsititues too. So, remember to read the label before you pay for them!

cheers

Hi fellow SG LCers,

Its has been a while since I last posted here. Hope everyone is doing well on their Atkins. Just a small update here (plus as a reminder to myself).

I have lost a total of 16KG since I started Atkins 2.5 mths ago (From 101KG to 85KG). But for the past week, I kind of lost focus and my sugar cravings keep kicking in and I have been slipping in/out of Ketosis (gave in to the cravings) :( So I decided to declared yesterday (Oct 31) as my cheat day and stuff myself with all the sugarly and high carb stuff. Today I will do a "hard reset" on the Atkins diet and start from the Induction phrase again. This is the menu I plan to follow for the next two weeks (I used it last time and it works but kind of toturing):

Breakfast
Hard Boiled Egg X 3 (Whites only) or Subsititute 1 egg for Ham

Lunch
Tuna X 1 can

Dinner
Veg + Fish/Pork/Chicken (Small portion)

Supplements
Multi Vitamins

My goal is to lose 5KG during the induction phrase. Beside following the Atkins diet, I will also be taking a Fat Metaboliser supplement in conjunction with daily workout in the morning/evening. I hope I will be able to reach my goal. Wish me luck ;)

Hiya Newbie!

Good to hear that you are back on track again ;)

I looked at your menu - not enough veggie I m afraid. I m sure you know you can have 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of vegetable per day during induction phase. Are you doing the induction again?

I have a pancake recipe to share. Many LCs have this for breakfast:
You can use either flaxseed meal (grounded flaxseed) or pysllium husk for the recipe. They are both greatfor overcoming constipation problem too! Check what Dr Atkins said in his book :)

1 egg
1/2 tsp of cinammon
1 tbsp of flaxseed meal/pysllium husk
1 packet of Splenda
1/2 tsp of baking powder

Mix the above ingredient well and let it sit for 5 mins. Heat the pan with a dash of butter. Then pour in the mix and cook both sides. You may use heavy cream or sugar free syrup to go with the pancake.

cheers

Saymeng: My BF send me Splenda when he went home to California for vacation. You can use Sweet n Low too which is available in most Guidance or NTUC healthcare stores in Singapore. They are usually kept in the diabetic section.

krystle: Nuts and Seeds are not allowed during induction. They are allowed only during the 3rd rung of OWL phase. (refer to page 174, The Power of Five). And congratulation on your weight lost during the induction phase. WEIGH TO GO!

Hi angelita, I tried "sweet N low" before and I did not like it, I keep tasting a bitter after taste. A friend of mine also got a box of splenda for me from USA. Anyways thanks :) , maybe we will have them here sometime in the future.

Hi Krystle, you can buy raw Almond nuts real cheap on top of the hawker centre between bugis junction and guang ying temple. I bought 2kg for $16SGD and roasted them myself. Very good source of fiber :)

Hi everybody,

I chanced this forum by chance. Boy am I glad to discover LC eaters in S'pore. Abd all alone I thought I am the odd one out here.

I have doing LC eating for almost two years and must admit this is the lifestyle I'll be adopting. Agree with u all it's hard to LC here cos foodstuff such as cheese are $$$$.

Just to check with u all do u use fresh cream in your coffee as it's high protein food.

I'm into Sommersizing and Atikin's plan. In the former quite similar to Atkin just that need to practice food combination.

Lastly can LC get rid of cellulite thighs???

Good to discover similar LC eaters

Happy New Year to all those that are LCing in Singapore.

Today I was at GNC and found that they are selling Atkins products like Bars and Cake Mix. Kinda expensive but if you are dying for something sweet...
