I am on the Atkins and I am diabetic. I no longer need to inject my insulin. My blood sugars are stable and I feel fantastic. I am no longer tired and thirsty and it's brilliant.

HI Sweetness. Thanks for the reply. I really need to know if there is a limit of fruit and veggies on this plan for the Diabetic I try not to eat very many, cause of the carbs, But i really dont know if i should eat more ,and if i do will that effect my blood sugars?I eat 1 cucumber at lunch with my protein .I am really scared to add more than that. Can you tell me a little how you done the plan .I have read the BOOK but I AM CONFUSSED about the diabetic issue

I'm type 2 diabetic. I've only been doing low carb for a few weeks. I eat about 30-35 carbs and so far my after eating (2 hours after) have been under 100 lately, but my fasting sugars are all over the place (just finished TOM though).
My big thing right now is that my body is adjusting to the lower sugars so I haven't had that energy yet that most people have on low carb WOL.

I don't eat much fruit and veg so I'm afraid I can't really help you out. The way I have been getting things right are by trial and error. Add something extra to your diet and carefully monitor your blood sugars. See what happens and that should help things become easier for you.

I am pre-diabetic ( hypoglycemic ). I am not on this plan, I am on Atkins but there is a definite diffeerence in the way my blood sugar reacts on a low carb high protein/fat diet. I have not gotten shaky that is common among hypoglycemics nor have I had the migraines that I once had. Previously, I got a migraine once or twice a week that I contributed it to perimenopause or too much sunshine. I have been low carbing since Thanksgiving, almost a year, and I have had 1 or 2 headaches since then. I just wanted to share. Good Luck,

Hi okienana. You might want to post in the "Dr Berstein and diabetes" forum. It's for all diabetics, not just those on the Dr Berstein plan. I think you're fine to go ahead and eat more veggies. If you want to eat more fruit, just be careful of the carb count and try to slow the absorption by eating it after a high fiber or high protein meal. HTH.

When you want to introduce a new food, check your BS often, perhaps one hr, two hr pp, etc. You will find how different foods effect you, since we all react differently to various foods. Also be keenly aware of portion control. Goodluck, you should be able to incorporate a variety of foods with this method.
