Food cravings all in the mind

British scientists have trained people to crave vanilla ice
cream and peanut butter at the sight of an abstract
computer image.

The experiments, reported in the current issue of the US
journal Science, reveal why certain stimuli may provoke the
urge to eat even when we're full. They shed new light on how
conditioned responses in the brain are linked to disorders
related to pleasure-seeking and addiction, like compulsive
overeating.

I crave seven-of-nine at the sight of a computer, maybe this
is related. Maybe she will let me play with her implants?
Well, maybe not, but damn what a thought, huh?

The study investigated what parts of the brain are involved in
pavlovian responses to various stimuli.

I don't give two hoots in hell where the cravings are as long
as I can deal with them!

What do many mothers do when their little children are upset?
Give them food and a cuddle. What do you think many adults
might do when upset?

I found this article fairly fascinating and noted the
following excerpt:

I reported being overwhelmed with a desire for a cigarette
lately every time I consume coffee although i have not smokes
(with one or two exceptions) for nearly twenty three years.
And the craving was toatlly absent until about one week agao.

A behaviour which has been extinguished for a long time is
apparently quite easy to reactivate. Who knows what has
triggered this, but it is not unusual. Keep on resisting,
and good luck. I've given up for about the same time and
everyone I know has since joined me, and I've luckily never
had the urge.
