I usually read a book about a topic before asking any questions, so do excuse me if this post seems uninformed. I'm waiting until pay day next week to buy NeanderThin. Anyway, I'm curious about how the diet compares to Atkins. I've read about it online and am very interested, but I have my concerns. I am highly insulin resistant (on Metformin). I eat under 20 net carbs per day and my body doesn't want to let go of any fat reserves.
So . . .
What do you like about the diet? Do you cheat often? Do you find that you get enough variety? What are you favorite things about the diet? Are there an exceptions for dairy foods (I love cheese) that you incorporate? What about expense of the diet?

hi! the main difference I've found compared to Atkins is that I feel a lot better on this diet. the 2 weeks induction really did me in, but on Neanderthin, just being able to have a piece of fruit makes all the difference. :)
I like the fact that I truly feel a lot better doing a natural diet, as opposed to what everyone else is doing, ie. a low calorie/low fat diet. People don't get it, but I've become an expert at explaining to their bemused faces, I've even got my husband doing a version of it. And he's lost about 4 kilos in 2 weeks!
veriety...well, I think that's no problem at all. I have tons of food to choose from, and there are many great cookbooks around to inspire you if you find that you're only eating, say...eggs.
If I feel like it I'll have some dairy in the form of cream, but I have that on its own or with sugar free low carb cocoa powder. I know I shouldn't do that on this diet, but it makes it liveable.
Expense...eating low calorie diet bars and rice cakes is a lot more expensive! Maybe I'm just lucky, but here where I live there are so many great foods around, fresh from the farm, so no problem. Spain has the most wonderful ham and fresh fruit and veg, so it's not at all expensive. All in all, if you're not eating cakes and sweets, it works out even cheaper.
Good luck! :wiggle:
