Hello!
Just checking to see if there is anyone out there from the Tennessee area. I really got serious about this diet today, 7/23. I was doing good last week but hadn't cut out caffiene. I used my keto testing strips last night and found I wasn't in ketosis at all. I don't know if any of you use these strips.. but the last time I was on the diet I used them almost everyday. The really helped me. Good luck to all as we do this diet together. I would love to hear from some success stories.

Thanks
Diane:p

Hi Diane,

Welcome to the forum!

Every day that has been a good low carb day for anyone is a success story in my book! You can read members journals in the My Journal/Bootcamp Forum and even keep your own journal there.

As for my own story, my health has improved immensely and 61 pounds are gone forever with a few more to go. Low carbing is my way of life now and I love it!

Hi Diane,

I've been on a low carb lifestyle since 5/26/01 and have found that I go in and out of ketosis (according to the ketostix). I really don't pay attention to the sticks because they are not the end all and be all of your success. I find that because I workout alot I use up my ketones so there aren't any to show on a stick most times. If you're on Atkins Induction, then maybe you should cut out the caffeine to follow it to the letter. If you're not on Induction, try to limit your caffeine consumption and keep track of it.

Stay focused and stick with it. We're here to cheer you on.

Thanks for the information about ketones. I didn't realize by exercising that we use up ketones. I haven't started exercising yet..the last time I did this diet I exercised and I knew I was sticking to the diet but when I would check my ketone level at times it would be just a trace or not at all. I started yesterday 07/23/01 on the induction diet and am not having any caffiene this time. I went home yesterday and my father-n-law had bought a double layer chocolate oreo cookie cake ..it looked so good, but I'm glad to say and didn't eat any. Thanks for all the encourgement. This is a great web sight.

Thanks,
Diane

Good job passing on the chocolate cake. I started on 7/14 and my ketostix do not show much but I am losing weight. I do find that in the evening the ketostix show a higher level though.

I use the sticks on a daily basis... I like them because in most cases they are confirming what I know. Prime example I was reading the stix and I was in the dark purple section for large or whatever and I knew that in the last 3 months that its never been that way so there was something wrong.

I read FAQ's here on the site about ketostix and found out that it most probably was the dark color due to dehydration. Which was no surprise to me since I hadn't been drinking my water. If I get into a cycle they work, fluctuate and you will see changes.

Good going on passing up the cake

Hiya neighbor! I am in Kentucky. I started atkins LC on Nov. 28, 2001. It isn't as hard as I thought it would be. I haven't tried the strips yet. I have heard mixed emotions about them. I am doing okay with this........I am however finding it hard to eat all the calories we are supposed to. I have a feeling this is why I haven't lost any more weight this past week. I am hoping for a change soon. I wish you the best and all the luck in the world! We are worth it! Take care! :p

Hi! born in Millington, TN I now live in a south AL town called Atmore. I don't use the sticks I watch my weight and measurements,(especially my measurements) alot of times if I haven't lost in a week or so i caan measure and get a nice smaller surprise. Hang in there and yes we are worth it.Every time I feel my pants a little baggier I am even more sure about this.

Hello, Diane and All Fellow Tennesseans!

My user name is CTReid (Cheryl). I just joined the list today,
1-1-02. I've been doing Atkins since 11-26-01. I've cheated some during the holidays and now I'm getting back on the track with the beginning of the new year. I live in Chattanooga. In case you don't know, Chattanooga is in the southeast corner of the state near the Georgia line. I'm glad to see there are other low carbers from the Volunteer State . Maybe, we can have a get together at some point to share tips, ideas, successes, failures and give each other face to face support. Good luck to you in 2002 toward reaching your weight loss goals.

I began the Atkins diet in November 01 and lost about 6 pounds during induction. Then we traveled during the Christmas and New Year holiday and I "mostly" stayed on track. I didn't lose, but I didn't gain during this period. Since the middle of January when I returned from holiday, I have gone up and down for about 3 or 4 pounds. I can't seem to lose and I don't really gain. I will admit that I only needed to lose 15 pounds to begin with and now need only to lose the last 9 to 10 pounds which i can't seem to do. I have not been walking for exrcise during the extreme cold we have had. When the weather warms, I will add that back in. But not losing is getting depressing.

Hey Flo Jo
Not real sure where Celina is located! Is that middle TN ? Do you visit TN often?

Are you doing the carb addicts or Low carbs? I wanted to do the carb addicts for a change but could not find enough infor to convince me to switch. :( If you could please let me know how its going!

Thanks

Celina is located in north central TN just about 15 miles inside the line from KY. Dale Hollow Dam (which my grandpa helped build) is located there.

I started with CAD because a friend of mine was doing it several years ago. I thought "Hey, if I can lose weight and still eat cake if I want to, I'm in!" But I was not able to find the answers to some of my questions in the book. I found this site and learned from senior members that the CALP book had more information (really just an updated version of CAD). So I guess really I'm a CALPER.

I like this WOE because I have not had to give up ANYTHING I like. I only need to watch WHEN I eat it. Also, I don't have to keep track of numbers of anything (total carbs, etc.) like with Atkins. From the posts I've read on Atkins, the first few weeks of weight loss is much quicker than CAD (or CALP), but, I would much rather lose it slowly and surely than quickly again and worry about a quick re-gain in the future. I did become discouraged the first few weeks because of the slow loss of weight, but the "seniors" helped me understand that it was normal.

Hope this helped!!!!!!!! :)

Hello again
If you don't mind could you e-mail me ~gakak9691~yahoo.com. I would like to ask more questions about the CAD. Where do you go to talk on this forum about CAD. How long have you been on CAD. I wonder if changeing directions now could be less benifical to my body.((( Just to name a few questions.))))
I hope to hear from you soon. :daze: I'm not sure what I want but I do want the pounds off. Last time I did the LCD I walked all the time. We have moved and I don't get to walk like I did. Do you excersise alot?
Thanks for all your help!

Hey
I guess this proves I'm unstable!!!! I have to give you another e mail address. It seems as yahoo is starting some thing new and now you have to pay for the service! So I have changed my e-mail address to ggaley~mac.com I can still read my e's from yahoo I just can't reply. So if you have already e mail me ~yahoo I will still read it from there. If you don't mind use the ggaley~mac.com from here on out. Thanks a bunch. Sorry to be so much trouble.

I did ask my husband about Celina and he knows where that is. He works all over Tn except for the most eastern part.

Hope you day was good. :cheer: Are you on MSM if so we need to talk there if we can get on line the same time.

Bye for now

Glad to see so many fellow Tennesseans out there. I've been on and off the LCD since January...I've really gotten serious about it this past month and I've lost 8lbs. When I began my new years resolution I weighed 172lbs. I am as of today, May 23 at 157lbs. . I only lost 1 lb. this past week but I try to not let that get me down. The way I look at it if I only lose 1 lb. week I should be at my goal weight of 140lbs. by Sept. 27.. I really hope it doesn't take that long..I have lost 8lbs in the last 5 wks. Does anybody know any thing about the Russell Stoffers sugar free candy being allowed on the LCD..seems like I read on a thread some time back that we could subtract the malitol and fiber from the Carb count..In that case most of these candies only have 1 to 2 carbs and they are great. I've been eating them when I want something sweet and maybe that's the reason for my weight loss slowing down the past couple of weeks. I also would like to get e-mails from you guys my e-mail address is dianepartin~cafes.net.. Look forward to hearing from ya soon. Good luck to all.

I am in Cordova, Tn. and I am needing to lose 40lbs. Over the past 2 years I went from 135lbs to 175lbs. I have been lazy and eating crap. I admit it. I need some support! School is about to start back and I work full time at a desk and then have class 3 nights a week for 4 hours at a desk! I don't wanna gain anymore weight!

Hi everyone,

I would like to start a support group for
middle tennessee. I'm in Dickson, so
it would be for Nashville, Bellevue, Fairview, Kingston Springs, Bon Aqua areas (and anywhere else close enough to drive.)

I'd like it to meet once a week or once a fortnight. All the details will be worked out as we go along.

Please let me know if you are in these areas and would be interested in joining.

Thanks,
Kara

Hello every one:
It seems that the low carb network is somewhat of a little family. So I wanted to share this with you. Though the plan I am currently on is Protein Power, I promote Lo carb lifestyle in general.
Anyway to get to the news. Dr. Atkins was on Larry King Live last night and for some who have not read any of his books in its entirety, some of the stuff maybe new for others it is a healthy reminder. He is promoting a new book and an upcoming book on diabetes and obesity. For him the link between the two is about 60% (60% of the clients he has dealing with obesity have diabetes(at the atkins center)) . Take a look at the transcript. I am posting it here. http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0301/06/lkl.00.html

Also I have a question for those I have read that have gone off the their eating plan and then come back. Moreso just an observation and suggestion. It would seem that because the Atkins eating plan is a lot like the Protein Power that it has stages that a person can go through until they get to an eating plan with more carbohydrates about 70-130 g. If that is true it would make more since that if you are considering coming off the eating plan to only go up in the stages. Reasoning is that this way you will save the metabolic and positive health benefits that you aquired at your lower levels of carbohydrate intake. This is just an observation and suggestion. I would think this may help reduce some of the guilty feelings associated with "falling off the wagon". It should also keep you in control of your destiny of a healthy lifestyle. Take care all ;)

Greetings and Salutations to all my fellow TN low-carbers. I live in Hermitage (just east of Nashville). I started the Atkins diet on 7/21/02. I have only lost 1 lb. since the holidays and have found it very hard to resume my weight loss. I thought about starting induction all over again, but it has been tough. It seems a lot harder to stick to than it was the first time. I guess it doesn't help that I had people at home and at work also low-carbing it. Now I'm on my own. It's good to know there are more of us out there. Good luck everyone!

Hi Shannon,

If you're close to Franklin we are pretty close together! I had wondered how to find people around us that were doing this LC WOE.

I just joined the forum a few weeks ago and am loving it. You are way ahead of me in your weight loss - I'm hoovering around a 14 pound loss. You're going to do great between now and Christmas!

Keep in touch - would love to know how things are going for you. I tried to PM you - your box is full.

I have added you to my buddy list. I really don't know how all this works yet. I don't get on the forum that much. I should visit more often to keep me motivated. I'll let you know when I'm PMable.
