Hi group,
There's a new book called Lose Weight with The Power of One
that just became available at Amazon.com
I know a lot about this book because I wrote it, and I wrote
it because losing weight has always been a part of my life -
until about five years ago, when I finally lost all I had to,
and kept it off since then.
This is how the book came about:
I grew up with parents and a sister who were overweight. But
at the beginning I could eat anything and never gain an ounce.
(You know the type - now I hate them!) Then I turned thirty,
and it hit me too.
Overnight my weight jumped up. I "crash-dieted" it off, patted
myself on the back, then turned around and gained it back plus
a little more. This became my pattern for years - and I tried
them all. Atkins, Ornish, Sugar Busters, Eat for Your type.
But all these diets did was make me nuts, because all that
happened was my weight would drop, then go up again, over and
over. And I felt like a failure.
So, because of the work I do, (I'm a researcher) I began to
read everything I could find on weightloss.
What I discovered (after ten years!) was that the answer to my
problem turned out to be mostly commonsense, and a kind of
commonsense that works in my real life, and takes into account
my personal tastes and urges and bad days. (I have enough of
these to share with everyone!)
So I started using this commonsense -- and began to lose
weight - slowly, continuously, and easily. Without dieting.
Until I lost all I had to. And for the past five years I've
been thin. I found the answer for my wife and myself, and we
went on happily with our lives. (Still no thought of a book)
Then one day a close friend (Mary) asked me to help her
with her weight. So for the first time I put my thoughts on
paper. (Part of my job as a researcher is writing, so this
was nothing for me) I called my strategies The Power of
One. Then my sister read the strategies, and showed them to
her weight-loss counselor, who asked if she could use them
for her clients. Then she said to me, "You should put these
into a book."
My first thought was: "The last thing the world needs is
another diet book!" But the excited reaction of that
weight-loss counselor told me I had discovered something
important. That I had stumbled onto the commonsense way to
lose weight without dieting.
From the beginning, though, I knew that if I was going to put
what I had discovered into a book, it would have to be
completely different. (Because I'm sick of diet books!)
So what I decided to do was write this book as a story, a
novel, with characters and a plot and excitement. And that's
what I did.
I could tell all of you that the book is great (because it is)
And that you should all go buy it. But instead what I'd like
to do is give away 30 copies to the first 30 people who just
send me an address the book can go to (Make it your work
address if you're worried about giving out your home address
-- That's what I would do) And then once you read it maybe you
could tell people (the group) what you think about it.
If any of you want to get in touch with me, I can give you
much more information about the book, because it is being used
by members of the American Dietetic Association as a teaching
tool, and I have tons of excited letters from Registered
Dietitions that I can pass onto you.
I hope you'll take me up on this offer.
All the best, Stephen Moss smoss@videotron.ca
