Hi there just thought i'd pop in and say hello to all you nice slim people (or to be slim people) :p
I have just started the Atkins diet and i am finding it easier than i thought i would but i am not weighing myself for a month and then i will gauge the results based on a month plan.
I don't know if i will stay on the induction period for 4 weeks as opposed to the 2 weeks it tells you to do i will wait n see.
I have a few questions if thats ok.
I am finding the drinking part of the Diet the hardest (No not just the alcohol :p ) the problem is i cannot seem to find anything to drink (apart from water) that doesn't have this aspartame in it i have read this can halt the weight loss but some say everyone is different and sometimes you just have to give it a go and see what happens.?
Another thing was these sodium nitrates which is another bummer as i cannot find any processed meats that doesn't have sodium nitrates in them i thought i had found a wee gem in safeways corned beef but to my horror when i got home even though it didn't say sodium nitrates on the label it did say E250,E251 and i had a sneaking suspicion that these were going to surprise me which of course they did when i found out they are both sodium nitrates so i was a wee bit disappointed when i found this out but i said i would eat them anyways since i had bought them for snacking.
This i did and i must say they were damn tasty i had em with cheese n tomato and it was a rare treat when i was feeling a bit peckish last sunday night and it did fill me up more than i thought i took 3 layers of corned beef and put cheese and tomato in between the layers and it ended up like a triple decker sandwich which as i say was a real nice treat.
Also at breakfast times i am finding it the most awkward as we only get a 10 min break and i was sticking to scrambled egg and kippers but my stomach can't handle kippers for some reason same with fry ups which i tried twice but they don't agree with me either dont get me wrong they tasted fine but my stomach didnt think so after an hour or so
I may have to think about taking my triple decker corned beef stacker :yay: to work.
I have lots more questions in my head but i better start bit by bit instead of asking them all at once.
Oh 1 thing i am not taking any vitamin supplements and i would appreciate some input on what supplements you all suggest i hear iron is a no no in the multivitamins so any help would be greatly appreciated.
BTW As a Scotsman i found it a brilliant relief when i found out Whisky has no carbs in it YAHOO !!!! :yay: but of course i have been dry since i started my induction period so the whisky is for a later date  look forward to hearing from you all.

Hi Carbcutter,
Welcome! I will try to answer a few of your questions if I can. As to something to drinK, water is the very finest beverage of all and contains no aspertame! Seriously, If I drink my 8 glasses a day, I am hardly thirsty for anything else. And the 8 glasses a day is very important, can clear up all kinds of problems as well as help get the weight off.

I don't know if you have any aversion to vegetarian meat substitutes, but the soy based cold cuts, frankfurters, bacon, sausages, burgers, etc. contain no nitrates or nitrites. To me they are delicious, but I'm a veggie. You could try them and see if you could stand them.

Good luck and see you around.

I never stopped the nitrates personally... also I indulged in diet sodas as well.

It is better if you make good healthy choices when you can but life is in the now and sometimes a less healthy choice is better then a high carb choice.

I would drink as much water as possible. You can always make your own iced coffee/tea w/ your own ingredients (just remember 8oz of either is 1 carb, each artificial sweetner is 1 carb, etc).

Find what you like to eat and what is convienent and learn to enjoy food again without the guilt this time.

Welcome!

I second that about the water! I know it feels really dull for a few days but part of that's just breaking the addiction to sweet drinks (made worse by being a Scot... if you're anything like my fiance you'll still call Coke etc "juice"! ;))

Aside from that I have a couple of lattes a day... made with espresso and single cream rather than milk. Again I thought I'd never be able to bear my coffee without sugar, but I actively prefer it now (after some serious cold turkey mind you! )

I had the same problem with breakfast to begin with. I'm not so bad now, and did have the advantage of working from home, so I don't have the worries of when to eat...

But maybe you could cook up a frittata or something to have cold at work when you feel ready for breakfast?

Carblife do a good multivitamin range (£2.50 for 60 tablets) designed specifically for men/women... on top of that, chromium is fantastic for helping regulate the blood sugar, and magnesium another great one to have.

Hope that helps for now. And just remember... Uisge Beatha is only the Water of Life in name!!! Eight glasses a day of the stuff will not help your diet! (At which point I'll refrain from breaking in to the "Tak a drink" sketch... ahem... yes...:daze: )
