I recently started taking the Thinfat brand of tonalin CLA(liquid); on the bottle it states one serving is 4400mg(one measure provided) is that all I need for the day? I was taking another brand by vitaminshoppe tonalin CLA but I had to take it 3 times a day 4 teaspoons each time. I just want to make sure that the Thinfat is that much more potent that I only need to take the one dose. If anyone can shed some light that would be great!

sl74,
I don't have an answer for you:( but I'm going to jump in your thread because I was wonderin the same thing.
I have webbers naturals tonalin CLA in pill form, 1000mg per 1 soft get. Was wondering what the daily dosage should be?
Also, have ALA from vitamin shoppe, pill form, 100mg, and was wondering what the daily dosage should be?
Sorry I couldn't help you with your question
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Ladies, all of this can be found by browsing through the sticky links uptop this forum (supplement resources) - www.supplementwatch.com is where I go when I need information on when, how much and why.
ALA - the dose depends on the function - anywhere from 50mg to 600mg. I'm assuming you're using it for your carb up, mom, so you're looking at a higher dose. Expensive but a very powerful anti oxidant.
CLA - expensive proposition. 4400mg sounds like the right amount. Usually it's between 3.4-5g of the active CLA (tonalin brand) a day - if you're taking it in pill form it's a lot of pills, and it takes a good 6 weeks to notice any effect (the primary effect most notice is that they break out about week 3). Expensive and not with the $$, IMHO.

You got it toots. Planning to take it during carb up, so any idea what my dosage would be? Sorry to be a pain
Nat, while we're talking supplements, I'd like to run the following by you: Again, I'm 5'4" and weigh 116. I don't want to OD on things and want to make sure I'm taking the right amounts too
calcium (333mg) Mag (133mg) & Zinc (5mg) I take 2 per day
Potassium Citrate - 99mg I take 4 per day
B-Complex 100 (contains different stuff) I take 1 a day
CoQ-10 (100mg) I take 2 per day
Evening Primrose Oil (1300mg) I take 1 per day
Selenium (200mg) I take 1 per day
Folic Acid (1200mcg) I take 1 per day
Vitamin C (500mg) I take 4 per day
Vitamin E (400IU) I take 2 per day
Chromium Complex Niacin bound GTF chromium (200mg) I take 3 per day
L-Carnitine (500mg) I take 3 per day
Kirklands Natural Fish Oil Concentrate (1000mg) I take 2 per day
and my Multi vitamin
and wanting to add ALA and CLA
Ooops, forgot to add that I take 10-15g of L-glutamine powder, broken up after my workouts/cardio and before bedtime.
Man, that's a lot
Am I doing ok taking the following every day? any suggestions?? does it give now that I am doing CKD?? obviously, I won't be taking the fish oils on carb up days ;)

Other than upping the cal/mag to 3x a day I'd say the rest looks fine. I'd pass on the CLA though - the studies on whether it actually helps are iffy (half say yes, half say no - and at the cost, it's not worth it, IMHO).
ALA - not sure on the dosage, but from what I've read on CKD boards it's high. Highest I've seen recommended for health concerns (nerve damage, insulin control for diabetics) it's around 600mg broken into 3 servings a day. Check the sticky link to wholehealthmd they provide more detailed advice on the doses. I think it's been mentioned in the CKD forum as well.

Nat,
Thanks, you are the BEST :exclm: I will check out the forums on ALA
Thanks for the tip on CLA, but since I have a bottle of 90 softgels, I guess I'll take it  , but not buy anymore.
Now if I could just get all these pills in powder/liquid form I'd be a happier camper  but I'm afraid they would add fructose (or some other form of sugar to make it more palatable (sp?) to drink
Thanks again

Yes, I used it back in April/May of 2002, back when it was "the new greatest thing to try" ;) Didn't notice much of anything - not even the breaking out.
The most positive studies done show that CLA helps you maintain lean mass while dieting down, which makes it attractive to bodybuilders who regularly bulk up then cut down and want to keep their lean mass as high as possible. It does work, but at the quantities necessary it's cost prohibitive. Most supplements in pill form contain between 500 and 700mg of active CLA per 1000mg capsule, the amount needed is between 3.4-6 grams of the active CLA, a whole whack of pills - and it doesn't work for everyone.
If your goal is fat loss you'd be better off with Green Tea as a supplement to a good diet and exercise program, IMHO.

Thanks Nat. I am actually taking 4400mg in a liquid form which is pretty easy to take time wise. I started taking it last week and since I bought two bottles I think I will continue on! Thanks for the info though, I post any results I get in my journal. As usual you are very helpful!

4400mg is a good dose, Shannon. Just curious, how much did the liquid gold cost you? ;)
