Went to be weighed yesterday as I do every week with a group of friends. the nurse does it for us at the doctors and I stayed the same. I hardly ate anything yesterday except for some cabbage and cheese and drunk loads of water.I had to put up with them all saying Atkins is no good go to low fat ect ect ect!!!!
So felt sure I would of lost this morning only to have gained two I CAN'T BELIVE IT!!!!!!!
Phoned my sister and she said DON'T even think of going back to carbs and low fat as the 7lb I have lost will go straight back on and more.
I started a new job a few weeks ago as a housekeeper so lots of heavy lifting and I start an 8 in the morning . so the first thing I eat is about 12 o'clock. So this morning I ate at 7 some prawns and lettece with a spoonfull of mayo. The same at 1.30 . This evening I will have a lovely steak.
I want to belive it will work, but feel so depressed. It is not fair this is the first time I can say hand on heart I have never cheated.
My sister said To eat more, but I felt so proud of myself hardly eating anything. If I was stranded on a desert island and had no food surly I would not gain weight would I??

Perhaps it would help you to go back and read the book again. Particularly the part where he makes it abundently clear the worst possible thing you can do is not eat...

By having the lack of food you had yesterday all you managed to do was put your body on red alert and tell it there may be starvation ahead so it'd do very well to store as much fat as it possibly can.

So, hand off heart, you did cheat! Now try playing by the rules!

Sounds like you're taking a more sensible approach today though... and well done you for doing so! Its hard... I mean really hard... to break that mentality which says if you don't eat you've done something clever and good. But break it you must if you're going to succeed.

Poor thing... really don't lose heart. Just re-read the rules and stick to them.

As for that desert island... well, if you were stuck there with no food, you'd die within a few weeks. If, on the other hand, you ate nothing but cream, cheese, chicken and eggs for those few weeks I'd say you could live to tell the tale... and the tale would most probably be that you'd lost weight! ;)

Listen to your sister... we're wise old things us sisters! :D

Dug my book out and am going to read again.
There has been so much about atkins these last few weeks it's hard to know what to belive. All I know is I do feel better. I just thought this is the first time I have found it easy not to eat. and if I dont't eat I will lose more Ok OK I know wrong!!!!! Also I have been consipated and that makes you feel bloated. Another quick question. I am drinking loads of water but not weeing very much, my body seems to be hanging on to it, is that because I have starved myself?

Ah yes, I went through a rather... uncomfortable... patch too! Senekot tablets seemed to help... as does drinking even more water!

Also after an initial period of going nuts and eating everything in sight (fair enough considering how long my poor body was starved of all those good things it needed!), I found my appetite went way down. Now I just have four or five regular smaller meals... which seems to be suiting me better than three larger ones. Might be worth a try?

Hard to say about the water itself to be honest. I noticed the same thing, although it didn't seem to affect my measurements or weight... so perhaps your body just utilises water differently with the lower carb intake?

I'm just guessing there... and hope someone will be able to come up with a far more rounded answer!

I think the main thing is not to be so hard on yourself. Truly... you've got a lifetime of brainwashing to combat here! Women especially are indoctrinated from birth in to the low fat, little food diet theories. Even now I can hear my mother's voice in my head warning "you'll get fat" every time I get the cream or butter out!

Be kind to yourself... after all, you've done fantastically well this far, and you yourself said how much better you're feeling. :bhug:

Plain and simple, you are not eating enough.

Think of your body as a furnace and food as the fuel. How on earth can the fire get going and start burning if there isn't enough fuel??

Eat as much as you are allowed, there's no need to be hungry. I always have cheese strings about and home made meatballs to munch on at work. DON'T GO HUNGRY!

HI

Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day and somewhere I have read that we should make sure it has at in it to kick start the metabolism and to make sure one does not feel hungry too soon. Eating too little (and boy is that easy sometimes on this diet) is not a good idea.

Try eggs and cheese in the microwave (actuallyI have now gone over to a dollop of cream) in a small ramekin till the egg is how you like it. It takes about a minute from beginning to end.

I stopped losing weight and then gained some when I stopped eating properly, the advice so far is spot on, up your food and keep the water up. If you're doing heavy work your poor body needs plenty of good fuel.
