Hi All... I am wondering about the sugar alcohols.... Today I tried a pancake recipe and the syrup, Log Cabin Sugar Free has 12 carbs in 1/4 cup serving...all sugar alcohols... Unfortunately I used the entire serving..lol...without paying attention to the carb count thinking it was low carb...HAH!!!

Well do I count all the carbs or what??? It's that TOM and I really needed some pancakes...they weren't that good...actually!!! Need some help here...much appreciated...

Hi, Skee. No, I don't count sugar alcohols--but some people do, or count half of them. They stall some people--I have no problem with them.

There is a great recipe for Protein Pancakes posted somewhere on this board. Now if I could only remember where.

But in case I can't find it, what you basically do is mix together 2 eggs and 1/2 cup ricotta, then add 1/4 cup of vanilla flavored whey protein powder. Add 1/2 tsp baking powder and a dash of salt. Then make on a griddle (little pancakes are best). It's about 2 1/2 servings, but I ate the whole thing last Sunday morning. The protein powder supplies a lot of sweetening (the brand I use has Splenda), so there's really no need for syrup.

Hey Rose....Thanks for the pancake recipe...I'll give it a try... The one I tried this morning used flax seed and I didn't like it at all.... Was disappointed but ate all of it lol.... It's during this TOM that I get out of control....usually so out of control that it takes me the rest of the month to recover....

So I've been having my low carb chocolate bar with dinner at night... Later a snack of nuts and some wine...

So based on your recommendation, I'll nix the carb count for the breakfast syrup.... Thanks so much for your help...

Have a good day....

I count them on fitday since I have to show my doc my food intake each week, but always keep the fact that they probably don't affect my blood sugar somewhere in the back of my head...

Normally, I wouldn't count them...

I try to limit my consumption of the sugar alcohols as they seem to be added to "treats". I don't count them as carbs, but just try to limit them to special occasions.

Dodger it's probably a good idea to limit them.. Recently I purchased some Judy's Peanut Brittle from Synergy Diet online... It is really good, however, I ate 1 and 1/2 servings... Within 1/2 hour I had stomach cramps and a severe case of diarrhea.. Checked the package and it has malitol syrup...boy I won't touch that stuff again unless I need to go..lol...

Point...be careful with them... I've read other posts where others have also experienced the same symptoms...
