I have been vegetarian now for 4 years, and vegan for 3 of those. (vegan means you don't eat any animal biproducts ex: no dairy, no meat, no gelatin etc. ) I have struggled with my weight since I was about 10 years old (I am now 21). I am 5'10 and weigh 220. My goal is 160, or 155. I've found that because I am vegetarian I have been eating more carbohydrates than I should. Yesterday some friends of mine who have been on low carb diets inspired me to try it. I think to get around the problem of doing a low-carb diet with no meat, I will be substituting soy as well as other foods for meat. Does anyone have any tips that might give me more options as far as what I can eat ? :)

welcome melissa! you can be a lowcarb vegetarian! here's a website: http://www.immuneweb.org/lowcarb/. i receive the monthly newletter as well. it's always loaded with recipes. do you eat tofu! i eat it extra firm every morning. it comes in at about 3 effective carbs. i'd also advise you to read the book PROTEIN POWER by dr. eades. he addresses vegetarians. this can be done! good luck and we hope to hear more from you!
