Loose Women on ITV had a natter about Atkins : Claire Sweeny reckoned when she did it she got a bad kidney infection : one of the others did it while being in early stages of pregnancy but does not eat meat so got bound up with eggs; and another could not cope with it and she now knew better : a former Corrie Actress got stroppy about how foolish they were and how everyone knows we need to eat Carbs. Focus was then on the 16 year old who died in the States - of course if she had been on weight watchers, or Conley, or even the cabbage diet would there have been that publicity (and that begs the questions of how she was doing the diet!)? Then the killer punch: on comes the Cosmo Editor to plug the South Beach diet which they are giving away free = and its not low carb at all..... Do they actually read the books? Do they understand the words they are reading if they do?

Day time T.V. is bad for your mental health and should as such carry a prominent health warning.

Nearly as bad as a man on the radio a couple of days ago commenting on the fall of bread sales in the U.K. who stated that Atkins was bad for you as it gave you kidney stones.....mmm where did that one come from?
Of course the interviewer let him get away with it and didn't ask him to quote his source.

It was worse than that - the Cosmo editor acknowledged that the diet they are plugging South Beach Diet - advocates low carb for first two weeks and then adds carbs in slowly. It was such a blatant plug for their product.

They were particularly dim in their comments - they talked as if induction was the whole of Atkins - but then I have seen and heard enough silly discussions on Atkins with "experts" talking rubbish. When you hear what the media make of Atkins you wonder about the quality of reporting generally. Dr John Biffra has been the lone voice saying that low carb approach has validity and the benefits of losing weight and keeping it off are proven and Atkins helps people lose weight.

Having been on leave for a couple of days and watched some of it, I agree that daytime TV should carry a health warning.

I think daytime TV should carry a public health warning.. if you watch it enough you will turn into the people you are watching!

Hi everyone... I've been doing Atkins (so to speak) for two months, lapsed a bit for three weeks in France, but have still managed to loose a stone and I don't have that much to loose. I started because of acheing joints and general lethargy, I felt if I lost weight I would feel better and there wouldn't be so much of me for my knees to hold up!...

It's been brilliant. It's not so much the weight loss but the fact I am eating more healthily than I have for years. I am not sticking to it rigidly, although I did 2 weeks of induction absolutely by the book. I don't feel guilty if I bake a cake and have a small slice, because I can do that now.. before I would have had half of it. My enegy level has benefitted enormously and my knees are sooo grateful too.

I don't like the bad press that Atkins gets, but it all comes from ignorance. Why don't they READ THE BOOK? That's what I say to anyone who questions me. Anyway, as has been said.. ANY publicity is good publicity (in a way) and basically the food industries/other diet industries have shot themselves in the foot because the book is a bestseller.

This forum has been an enormous help as well..so thank you all

Actually I think Loose Women is very funny and won't stop watching it just because they've made silly assumptions about Atkins. That would make me as bad as them. As for that stupid ex-Corrie actress (Sherrie someone?)..every subject they ever discuss she has rediculous opinions on, that's obviously why they have her on there .. to stir things up...wouldn't it be boring if they all agreed with eachother !!
Apart from Loose women...daytime TV sucks...have you seen Trisha ?? OMG ... UK's equivalent of Jerry Springer...appallingly awful. I knew there was a reason I went to work..

Happy LC'ing

I've never watched Loose Women at home, although I have seen snippets when I've been on my break at work and someone else has been watching it. It drove me back in early!!
