Hello every one, I went on to line one forum and posted on the Atkins thread, you know just to talk to like minded people. Said all about myself and where I am at with this woe and got very negitive response. This is part of one "I can sympathise with your dilemmer.I to am very close to 40 over weight and have an under active thyroid and like you on 100 mg thyroxine a day.I tried the atkins diet a few months ago take my advise steer well clear of it.Apart from the associated bowel problems and haletoses and reanal cholic if u have an under active thyroid your body reacts to fat in a different way than normal, unable to distibute it properly and just letting it settle in your body.As for the other question yes 5.5 is quite high, after 2 months on the atkins diet my levels went up to 7.5 which was a great cause of concern." This scared me a bit .
Think I will just stick to this forum more friendly.

Hi Fiona
Sorry that you did not get a helpful reply on that other forum. Just because one person has a bad experience it does not mean that everyone else will as well.
We all know there are potentially some nasty side effects like bad breath (I've never had it I think) and constipation (if you don't eat enough veggies and drink your water), but I love this way of life and I'm continuing to lose weight, all be it slowly.
We will try to help. There is no magic cure for being overweight, just determination and keeping focussed on what you are eating.
Hi Fiona,
I do have an underactive thyriod and do take 100mcg of thyroxcin a day, and you wanna know the truth? Atkins is one of the best things that ever happened to me! Honest, before this I was depressed overweight, down on myself, no confidence and wouldn't do lots of things that others did.
Now 3 months on, I am halfway there, lost 30 lbs 2 dress sizes, and feel fantastic, my confidense has gone through the roof and I think I would give most things a try now.
I still have 31 lbs to lose but I am going to do it.
And I will stick with it for life coz I am never going to be that girl again.
You stick here with us and don't listen to negative thoughts. People who can't stick to something and see others who can are often feeling insecure and a bit jealous so the only way they can think of compensating is slating us.
Good luck, Hev.

Hi
Im also on Throxine 75mg a day, and have been following Atkins for 3 weeks.
I too feel so much better, more energy, happier in myself and best of all have lost 17lb in 3 weeks.
Im sick of people saying how unhealthy Atkins is, when I review my 'diet' before Atkins, it was horrendous, cakes, sweets, chocloate, loads of bread, a few more sweets, biscuits and then a nice healthy 'ready meal' for dinner. Now if I had continued like that I think we can safely say I was well on the road to serious health problems, plus I was becoming a bit of a recluse, which is sooo not like me !!!
Yet now, three weeks in, Im never hungry, food doesnt control my life anymore and I feel great, and another 21 lbs and I can drag my knee lenght boots out the cupboard again and go clubbing again ha ha
So lets stick together and hurrah for us !!!

I take Armour thyroid and have been low - moderate carb for several years. I have lost 30 pounds, despite the hypothyroidism.
