I have recently started the Atkins diet and was looking forward to having sausages for breakfast. (Still feel guilty saying that).

When I have looked around supermarkets I have found they are full of carbs and with me being on induction obviously I can't touch them.

Does anyone know of any carb free sausages that can be bought in the UK?

I would be really grateful if anyone out there could help me.

thanks . :help:

Try Lidl. They do frozen German style sausages that are only 0.5g per 100. Waitrose also do gluten free and other sausages which are low carb and Tesco have some Hungarian Paprika sausages which are low carb.

I was just at Biggles (www.ebiggles.co.uk) sausage shop in London. None of their sausages have any bread whatsoever. I'm making spaghetti sauce tonight using their Italian Sweet and Hot sausages. (We're using a spaghetti squash, of course, instead of the noodles!) :yum:

Not sure if they do mail order, but I hope so. The sausages are delicious.

Morrisons have some great sausages called Harrogates favourite sausages they come on packs of 6 and cost about 1.69 and they are 0.8 carb grams per 100grms and they are really meaty andd tastey!! Sainsburys and Safeway also do a good range of low carb sausages, they are more expensive than your average banager, but I think its because the consist of more meat, instead of the crap the cheeper sausages are filled with.

My fav' are the Waitrose Premium range chipolata's 0.9 per sausage

Tesco's also do some about 1.5 carbs each

jaqui
Mon, Aug-18-03, 07:43
There is no waitrose near me but my gran lives just round the corner from one so over to grans I go. I can then say I will have tried every lc sausage out there. I can't believe I couldn't find any and you lot know of so many. Maybe I need new contact lenses.

My husband is now getting slightly worried about my obssession with sausages but I couldn't do this diet without them.

Oh my God I am reading this back to myself and I sound like some sad sausage addict. Im not honest!!!!!!!!!!!!! before Atkins i would never have craved one. OK im going to stop now, this is just getting shameful.

M&S do some good diabetic sausages - they are "only" 8g for the whole packet. Alternativelt Tesco does good Toulouse sausages with only a trace of carbs - although they take years to cook!

It's funny i'm not really a meat eater either, but i love my steak rare nicey and juicy:yum:

Talking of tomato ketchup has given me a craving!
Not that i like artificial sweetners but do you think it could be made with Splenda instead of sugar?

I was also thinking the same about jam, but then if it could be done i would have thought we'd be able to buy it:(

Tue, Aug-19-03, 01:48

Ebbie - about the jam. It can be done. You can buy diabetic jam. It's made with sorbitol so don't eat too much at once or you'll be forever rushing to the loo.

With regards to ketchup, Safeways do a reduced sugar and salt one which has 14g per 100. a 5g blob on the side of your plate is less than a gram therefore.

I still love sausages.

pepsi max
Tue, Aug-19-03, 12:36
i bet thats a lot cheaper than the £3.45 that i paid for my l-c tom sauce rob.

RCFletcher
Tue, Aug-19-03, 13:40
Yes, less than a pound I think. You can't use tons of it - not at 14g per 100, but I weighed a good squirt and it came out at 5g - enough to dip my sausages in at breakfast!

It tastes good too.

pepsi max
Tue, Aug-19-03, 13:44

I was just at Biggles (www.ebiggles.co.uk) sausage shop in London. None of their sausages have any bread whatsoever. I'm making spaghetti sauce tonight using their Italian Sweet and Hot sausages.

Hello everyone!
Im new to the forum. I am from the US and have been living in the UK for over 2yrs now. I have searched for Italian sausage but cannot locate it here (Doncaster). Needless to say I was excited to see the message about Biggles store. I have already emailed them with questions on shipping. Are there any other stores that you know of that sells this item? Many thanks!

Hi Mamie

Welcome to the forum... hope the UKs been treating you kindly?! ;)

Your best bet in finding Italian sausage is probably to find out where the nearest good delicatessen is; it tends to be standard stock there.

I love it here thanks. Met my fella over the net 3 years ago. Moved here and got married. I do miss some foods from the US but have adjusted ok.
I have checked the shops in town on market day, but no luck. Hopefully Biggles does mail order.
