Hello, got a bit of a shock when I stood on my scales this morning they say I am now back up to 12st 5.5lb, I'v put on over a lb. How can this be as I have followed this low carb thing so well. I know I am not ment to weigh every day but I can't resist, now wish I had'nt.

THAT is why you aren't supposed to weigh every day. You can easily put on a pound in fluid. Don't worry about it!

Get OFF that scale - in fact, hide the darned things for two weeks.

With this weather you could be retaining water or anything, really, don't worry.

Hey Fiona,
Don't worry, I put a pound on one week but took 3 off the next, it's just your body adjusting.

It sounds as if you are doing fine. Your body retains water for a number of different reasons. This hot weather as well as added salt in food are just two reasons for increase in body weight. Remember, it takes 3,500 extra calories to put on a pound or real fat.

People use thier scales in various ways. I've never got over weighing every day, but others find it best not to weigh more than once a week. This is a personal one, but if you measure daily you do need to be able to deal with the ups and downs. It is recommended that if you weigh daily you tally up the weights over a week and then divide by 7 to get your weight for the week. If you look in my journal you will see that over the last couple of weeks my weight has been going up and down by a couple of pounds. Yesterday it was down, today its up a pound, but there is nothing to worry about as the basic trend is downwards.

Have a good Tuesday.

Hi Fiona

I can't resist sneaking on to those scales before I'm meant to either! ;) Only last night I was saying to my fiance it feels like I either take two steps forward and three back or three steps forward and two back...

I've had that happen to me many times since I started this diet. But I've lost half a stone in under a fortnight, so truly... have faith! And maybe a little more double cream...

Don't worry about overnight gains. As Anne said, even the hot weather can cause us to retain water. Additionally, LC dieting seems to cause more and greater water fluctuations than LF or "balanced" dieting. But still, it's only water causing the ups 'n' downs. If the general trend is going down, then you're losing fat.

Ahhh Glasgow! You know, you really had me missing it when you mentioned tattie scones and soda farls... and then you mentioned the blokes with their lack of interest in anything but football, and the rest of it all comes flooding back!

If its any comfort, I found out I was a size 18 this weekend (I'm a seamstress; I don't normally need to know this stuff, but my sewing stuff is packed and I really needed new shorts!). The last time I went clothes shopping I was a size 8-10!!! It was absolutely all I could do to keep from crying in public. If I hadn't found out that morning how much I've already lost on the diet, I honestly don't know what I'd have done.

I am at least blessed with a very loving and supportive fiance, and still I felt so miserable I nearly posted here for extra moral support.

We all get times like this. You're not whining... you're just human! :)
